Sébastien Leblanc was in heaven.

After his initial explosion of glee – and the subsequent shushing from the other library inhabitants – the blonde had done a somewhat quieter victory dance and set about exploring his new discovery. Apparently, after complaints about the library not being multicultural enough, they had added a small section in the back corner for books in foreign languages. Though small, there was an entire shelf of books written in French. Sébastien could have died that moment and been completely happy.

He made a mental note to tell Elke about his discovery as he started pulling books off the shelves. If the title or the author was French he took it, and any book that had been mistakenly put in the French section got tossed down onto the bottom shelf. It would serve the librarian right for putting the wrong kind of books in the French section. Let it be a lesson to her to pay more attention to what she was doing.

Books balanced in his hands, he hummed happily as he set off to find a comfortable chair. He made one circuit of the library before he spotted an empty cushiony chair, and claimed it in the name of French literature. It took him a moment or two to get settled, but after a few wiggles he found a position he liked and reached for his first book. Les Faux-monnayeurs by André Gide. Aaah, it was so nice to finally read French novels. Could today get any more perfect?

Mason Everheart had never actually talked to Sébastien Leblanc. But the French teen was just so interesting - he didn't know if anyone else in the entire school had the same intense pride for their home country. And it was all the little things that mattered - the little sighs when he was reading his French literature, for example.

The actor moved out from one bookcase to hiding behind another - and then he grabbed a book and leaned on a shelf near Sébastien's. He propped the book open and began to peer eagerly over the top at the other blond - what was that book anyway?

Every time he thought Sébastien was going to look up, Mason returned his gaze to the page before him. Only after seven times did he realize that the book he'd randomly chosen was a collection of photos of...okay what the hell were those wiggly green and purple things?

He dropped the book.

The French boy flipped past the introductory pages to chapter one, eyes lighting up at the sight of text in French. He couldn't believe how much he missed seeing accents on words or names that he knew exactly how to pronounce. None of these names with silent letters or alternate spellings of French names. It was positively disgraceful to see a real French named turned English by removing the accents and a few letter.

He was so enthralled, in fact, that he didn't even notice he was being watched. Mason probably could have stood right behind him and made faces and Sébastien wouldn't have said a single thing until the other boy stepped into his light. Even then, he would have had to stand there for several minutes before the French boy would have even realized the blocking of his light was on purpose.

His concentration was broken, however, by the sudden noise of a book hitting the ground. Sébastien looked up and spotted Mason. What was he doing, dropping books like that? Was he lost?

"Are you looking for something?"

Mason was naturally panicking - s**t s**t s**t he had noticed! Why was he so easy to spot recently? Sue Gottschalk had noticed him, too (or his cat had, anyway), and that had gotten his nose nearly broken (although he was pretty sure that Sébastien wouldn't punch him. Probably.).

"Uh, no," he answered. "I was just shocked by some of the photos in this book was all - " Mason frowned at it, and picked it up again. It was called A Closer Look at Bacteria. He held it up for the French boy to see. "I have no idea why I picked it, either," he confessed. Actually he did - he'd just grabbed one off a shelf at random. But he wasn't going to tell him that.

The French boy blinked. Shocked by some of the pictures? What exactly was he reading? Mason answered the question quickly enough by holding out the book for him to see. A Closer Look at Bacteria. Well, he could imagine that would get pretty graphic at times. It seemed like a good enough excuse to be throwing literature around in the library. He added it to mental repertoire of excuses.

"Ah, I understand. It is a strange world, zhe world of bacteria, no? Perhaps you should be looking for less euh… graphic book?"

Sebastien paused for a moment, before he gestured to his book pile. "You can read one of zhese if you like. Zhey are in French though, so I do not know if you are good at the reading of French." Or even if Mason liked reading books in foreign languages, but that thought didn't cross the boy's mind. Who wouldn't want to read French books?

He had to think of an excuse quick. "Yeah, I don't usually read this stuff. I thought I could use it for a science project but there really isn't anything good i - there're French books here?" He peered over at the books spread across the table. No wonder he'd been so thrilled to see these books - France seemed to be the only thing the guy got excited for, from all the watching Mason had done of Sébastien.

"I've been taking French as a foreign language elective - it's useful for, you know, plays and stuff." Unfortunately Mason was not actually skilled at French past the accent part - he could read a book aloud like a native but he could understand about half of what he was saying. (Mason much preferred studying his classmates to studying the textbook.)

"Of course! It is exciting, n'est pas? The librarian 'as finally decided to put a bit of culture in zhe library." It was about time too. Damned woman didn't want to cater to the needs of the minority. The French boy looked quite pleased with himself as he reached over to pat one of the books lovingly. No doubt it would take him weeks to get over the fact that he had books in the library that were in his native tongue. Not even the librarian's dislike of him could ruin that.

His attention turned to more serious matters when Mason brought up his history with the French language. "Plays and stuff?" Sébastien repeated, raising both his eyebrows and his voice. If the librarian shot him a dirty look, he ignored it. "What is zhis 'plays and stuff' you are speaking about? Are you some kind of euh…acteur?"

"That's brilliant!" grinned Mason. It would mean a lot more of Sébastien reading - he'd finally get to really see how the teen behaved while he was completely absorbed with something not in this world. After all, when you were reading you weren't self-conscious - you didn't constantly glance around to make sure no one was watching you twirl your hair around your finger in a girly way. At least, if you liked the book - and Mason was willing to wager that the French boy liked French books. (A lot.)

"Of course I'm an actor!" If the librarian (or anyone really) shot Mason a dirty look, he merely raised his voice and did a lot more dramatic spreading of his arms. "I try out for every theatrical production at the school - except, you know, for choir. And orchestra and stuff - music is cool but it's not what I'm interested in."

Brilliant? Did he say brilliant? Finally! Someone who understood his love for beautiful French literature! The teen positively beamed at Mason’s enthusiasm, clearly quite chuffed that someone appreciated having French books in the library as much as he did. Of course, he may have been a little disappointed to know the true reason why Mason was so happy, but he wouldn’t have let it slow him down. Love of French things, for whatever reason, was considered a plus in his book.

He was surprised to find out that Mason was indeed an actor, but he couldn’t help but be appreciative of the boy’s slightly dramatic flair. This Englishman definitely knew how to hold everyone’s attention with his voice. It was nice. “Zhere are lots of plays and stuff for you to try out for?” Sébastien asked, having no real idea about the school’s drama department. He didn’t have time for performing English plays.

Then, a thought appeared to strike him, and his mood changed drastically. With a very pronounced frown on his face, he asked seriously, “So you are liking zhe Shakespeare, aren’t you?”
