Finally, the weekend. The slim thread of freedom that held the school week together, and kept students across the country from going totally insane. Or at least that was how it worked for most people. Tallulah tended to fall into the school of 'kids who make other kids look bad' with her busy schedule, so Jaimie had been impressed when he'd actually managed to score enough time out of her day for a movie.
Breaking out of Hillworth, patrolling the streets at night and trying to keep up with his school work during the day.... even fighting one of those... what was that stupid blob thing called again? Oh yeah, a Youma.
It certainly made an rough week even rougher, and he was looking forward to unwinding. And overpriced junk food. Did vegetarians eat movie food? Damn... no idea. He'd have to offer and find out, because he'd about kill someone for some sugar-babies.
And a soda. Definitely a soda. Mountain Dew... or something stronger if they had it. How the hell did the other Senshi keep this schedule anyway?
Still, in spite of lingering cobwebs from insufficient sleep of late, he'd actually, amazingly, arrived a bit early, rocking on his heels as he waited in front of the theater. Not as casual as the burger meeting, he was wearing his uniform shirt with the sleeves rolled up, though this was worn with jeans instead of Hillworth plaid, and his hair had, for a change, been pulled back into a short tail, from which strands were stubbornly escaping, no more obedient than their owner.
Ok. We're cool. Just don't fall asleep in the theater... He chided himself. That would be fun to explain.

Overnight, Tallulah had gained a Youtube following that, while not huge, was considerably enough sized that it was a bit overwhelming. There was a demand for more videos that she worried she probably would not be able to match - both of the ones she'd taken were more or less via dumb luck. She was glad she had plans to distract her from the computer for an afternoon.

It was... a date. When the cute guy you met at the animal shelter asked you to a movie after you'd been out to dinner and run around the school after dark, it was a date. She couldn't say she didn't like the idea of it, of course. Jaimie was nice, and cute, and she really didn't think he belonged at Hillworth at all. (There was the shoplifting thing, but that hadn't been his fault. Not really. She was willing to overlook that. Tallulah liked to see the best in people.)

As she neared the theater, she spotted him and jogged over. "Jaimie," she said, smiling. "Jaimie. Hey."

You could take the girl out of the pool, but you could not take the pool out of the girl. Over her jeans and sweater, she was wearing her ubiquitous Meadowview Swim & Dive jacket.

"What are we seeing?" she asked.

The plan had never gotten that far on the phone. She told him to surprise her.

"Where the Wild Things Are." He offered in answer to her question, breaking into a grin as he saw her. "Hope thats ok. I figured after everything in the news you could use something not too serious to unwind to." He'd seen the article about the pet shelter, and still wished he'd been in the area, but sounded like someone else had, thankfully, taken care of it. "I mean I can probably score tickets for something else if thats on your 'no-see' list..." he offered.
Jeeze, what was wrong with him? Jaimie Leontyne did not do flustered on dates. Though then again Jaimie Leontyne also did not do 'saving the city from psychopaths and blob monsters', or get that kind of sincere smile from a girl, usually, when dates were often more of an arrangement of You're popular, I'm popular, lets traumatize our parents and get this over with.

"Sounds good," said Tallulah. She'd been meaning to see that one for a while and just hadn't gotten around to it. Busy schedule and all that. "Did you ever read the book when you were little?" she asked.

Dumb question. Everyone and their grandmother had read the book when they were little. She felt silly and followed him into the theater. But hey, it was a date. A real, actual date!

"Actually, to hone our business sense, Dad read Machiavelli's "The Prince" to us." Jaimie answered, doing his best deadpan, though he didn't for long, letting a grin break back over his face as they went inside, fishing in his pocket to double check on the tickets. "No I'm kidding. I read it. I'm definitely curious to see how they did turning a little book like that into a movie though." He admitted. "Do you want snacks or anything?" He added, thoughts jumping back to his earlier train of questions.

"No thanks, I'm okay," said Tallulah, glancing in the direction of the concessions counter. It was a very convincing concessions counter. "On second thought... let me pay for us, though. You bought my ticket, and they keep jacking the price up on those." Tallulah was not in the habit of being indebted to anyone.

A few minutes later, they left the snack bar with their purchases. Even though she'd caved to the call of junk food, she thought that a small popcorn and a bottle of water was still reasonable.

"Let's go find seats!"

If it had been someone else, Jaimie might have actually attempted to argue the point that concession stand snacks really weren't going to break his budget... but it WAS Tallulah, and he'd already gotten the impression that unless you were willing to dig in your heels for a few hours...days... months... you were probably better off letting it slide.
"Sounds like a plan."

"Okay," said Tallulah. She showed her ticket to an attendant and he pointed them down the hall to the auditorium on the end. She took Jaimie by the wrist and gave him a playful tug in that direction, already starting to feel more relaxed. "Come on," she said.

They got to the theater and found it to be mostly empty - the movie had been out a while and apparently she and Jaimie were about the only people on the planet who hadn't seen it yet. "I'm partial to the middle, towards the back," said Tallulah, surveying the nearly-empty room. "Have you got a preference?"

"Nah, that sounds good. As long as we haven't got anyone paying the kick the seat game, thats probably the best view in the house."

Others might disagree, and shoot for front row... but the only thing he'd ever gotten out of that was a stiff neck, and a really poor view of the movie. Oh and occasionally an half hour fishing other peoples snack food out of his clothing.

"Looks like our lucky day though. Next best thing to a private showing." He grinned again, making it hard to tell if he was actually joking or if he'd honestly been privy to a private screening of a movie, but that was the idea.

Tallulah deliberately chose a pair of seats near the center and towards the back, with no snotty little kids sitting behind them. She flopped down into a seat and patted the one beside her. "Is this satisfactory, oh mister I-watch-movies -in-my-own-private-theater?"

The lights began to dim. "You'd better make up your mind," she quipped, "Because it looks like they're going to start the previews."

The assumed answer was 'Yes', because she had already tucked one of her legs up under her and put her drink in the cup holder.

"I'm joking," she said. "Sit down."

"I dunno, I might have to pull out a glove and challenge you to a duel for insulting my obvious superiority and nobility." He quipped back as he sat down, stretching out his feet as best he could and crossing them at the ankle. "I'm also kidding. Never been to a real private showing." he chuckled quietly, lowering the tone of his voice so as not to bother the other patrons.

"What, are my solid middle-American roots not good enough for you?" she replied, smirking, and then shushed him. The previews were starting.

The first one was for a disney movie starring a sassy black girl and a frog with a pseudo-european accent, despite the film taking place in Jazz Age New Orleans. "Oh look!" whispered Tallulah. "A politically correct movie that rips off a classical fairy tale and has no regard for historical accuracy!"

This was followed by a preview for movie about aliens that looked halfway clever, and a live action film about children with super powers that did not.

"I don't think there used to be nearly this many previews," she confided.

Jaimie's fervent eyeroll over the commercial was accompanied by enough body language to make it pretty obvious, even in the dark.
"Gotta love the witch doctor." He chuckled softly. "I think you're right though. Guess they weren't getting enough hits otherwise."

The superpowers movie made him wonder if that was anything how people currently saw the Senshi. Good God he hoped not.
... Although it would be pretty funny if he spotted someone selling Sailor Regulus action figures.
... Ok funny and kind of sad. Or scary. Or all of the above.
"Wait till we get to the movie. We should bring a notebook next time. Record all the product placement."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 3:10 pm

"But most of the movie takes place in a fantasy land, doesn't it?" asked Tallulah as an add for an anime based on a line of action figures played. "I wouldn't think there'd be much product placement--"

She realized he was joking.

"Never mind," she blushed.

Finally, the production company banners rolled, and Tallulah snickered at the childish graffiti additions to the Warner Brother's logo... and then whimpered and buried her face in Jaimie's shoulder as LIGHTS UP ON THE MAIN CHARACTER CHASING A FRIGHTENED DOG happened. She knew it was normal childish behavior, but...

"Tell me when it stops," she whispered.

Almost without thinking he moved to put an arm over her shoulder as she snuggled out of sight of the tormented dog, who, in a regular setting, Jaimie might have even voted to give the kid a good chomp.
Sure worked for him when he was that dumb.

He debated even writing her a short bit of 'fiction' where the kid got a taste of his own medicine, but then again that might be pushing it. Homemade writing was a little hit or miss.

"You ok?" He asked quietly, after a moment or two had passed. "I think you're safe now. Unfortunately because he's the main character we were denied the revenge of Kujo... but everything seems to be ok."
