Well you all probably herd the great debate that is "A photographer is only as good as their camera". Do you agree? Disagree? I for one disagree. I mean has anyone ever herd of the Polaroid kidd? [Some photos of his] All he uses is a Polaroid camera, and his portraits are breath taking! I have had slr digital and film cameras, both were tremendously old and both took and s**t on me and died. So now I'm stuck with a s**t-tastic point and shoot. I asked for a lovely slr canon for Christmas, but i got a Fuji finepix, which is a not so crappy point and shoot. But still not a SLR. I almost worry that I'll be judged on the fact that I don't have a fancy slr and not on the fact that I may or may not have good photography. A lot of people are stubborn and narrow minded. And a lot of people don't have the money for a fancy slr. But anywho, I was just wondering about your opinions. smile

I've never actually heard that before. Me and my photog friends all agree that you just need an "eye" for it (get it? an eye for the viewfinder? razz ) and your camera has nothing to do with it.
HOWEVER, as an event photographer, I highly believe that I'm doing my clients a disservice if I use crap gear if I can afford better equipment (Note: I said "if").
I think they should change that subject to "A pictures is only as good as the photographer'. wink The Polaroid Kid is a great example. His has great talent for capturing photojournalistic pictures. They are my favorite actually, because that's how I like to shoot my events. Just stay back with a long lens, and shoot away.
His subjects are also very interesting which makes for a great portrait. I'll give him props for getting pictures of all those people. smile One thing I'm still and always trying to develop is my people skills.
Anyways, good find on this kid! I'll definitely have to follow his work. smile

I have never ever heard of that, but I completely disagree. I have seen beautiful pictures taken from a pinhole camera. (by my photo teacher actually)

They say Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what truly makes a photographer great is having the ability to share the feelings they experienced in personally viewing a scene. I have seen plenty of boring photos come from wonderful cameras and wonderful photos come from crappy point and shoots. I even have an example of my own pre-dSLR era work 4mp 2nd hand Fuji Point & Shoot *edit* I should add that some situations do require more gear but the most important gear is talent!

Kokihi eek ... Phoenixliv...that is absolutely gorgeous!! ... eek Aww thanks! That was back when I was just getting into photography ^_^ that was one of the photos that made me really think I needed a better camera ... that and ... well, did you know if you take lots of photos of a sunrise or sunset with a digital point and shoot you'll burn out the sensor? That was one of the last photos that little Fuji ever took sweatdrop yeah, I needed a new camera anyway. I was thinking about mentioning this before, but you're lucky you got a Fuji! They have great color rendering and their sensors are some of the best at doing wide ranges from light to dark

Lula Spooner Phoenixliv: Omg, the colors! It's beautiful! So Fuji is a good brand, in your opinion? Yeah ^_^ they do especially well with skin tones. Here, I'll upload a few more I shot with my poor abused first digital! This was back in '05 and '06 so I think the Fuji was new in '04. They've come a long way.

Nice, I am so glad I decided to go with Fuji! Thanks, I was really worried about what kind/brand of camera to get, that was in my moms price range...which was pretty low to begin with. The Last camera I had was a nikon, and it pretty much sucked. Not very good quality!
