The Emo in you
toco clarinet
the real question is: if someone can play virtually ALL brass instruments, but NO reed instruments because "it hurts too much"...does that mean it takes stronger, more durable people(in other words "hard core") to play reed instruments? i think the answer is yes
smile Sorry, but no. Brass requires insane lip morphing, especially trumpet to tuba. The guy probably just had sensitive teeth, or was not playing the reed correctly. you clench that thing too loose and it'll grind at your teeth.
rhetorical question: either i know the answer, or i don't care.
no "group" of instruments is harder than another. sompe people may find certain instruments EASIER than others, but to play any instrument easily and proficiently is difficult. brass IS NOT harder than reed instruments, at the same time reed instruments ARE NOT harder than brass instruments. if you WANT to classify instruments as "easy and hard", brass are typically, with the exceptioin of trombone, easier to play quick passages with any interval bigger than a second. woodwind instruments are easier to "pin-point" a note, simply because USUALLY, if you're fingering a note you will at least be CLOSE to the note you're supposed to play. but none of that should matter if you're even remotely proficient at your instrument.
