Faerin walked slowly across the meadow, her head held high, each step deliberate. She was always trying to look her best, it was to expected. Each movement she made had a purpose to it. Her eyes studied the horizon. The sun was at its highest point in the sky casting warm rays down on the land. It was the perfect time to take a walk. She stopped for a moment to shake out her mane to readjust it, somehow it had gotten slightly out of place. She bent down to take a mouthful of grass before continuing on. No reason to stay in one place for long, there were far too many things to see.
She continued along, smelling the sweet scent of a field of flowers. It was such a lovely day to be out. After some wandering she came to stop for a small rest under a beautiful tree. She took care while laying down to now mess up her mane and tail. She shook out her one hoof to rearrange the feathers just so and then sighed contently.

Szad was also gazing up at the high sun. It perched tall and proud in the sky. It made him wander how the sun moves. As far as he could see, there were no strings, legs or wheels to move it along. He frowned. Did it just float? He looked down at the ground in firm concentration, when he spotted his shadow. Well, lack of shadow that is. He had never realized that during this time, his shadow seemed to have shrunk. Whenever he noticed it, it always was spreading and trying to reach the horizon opposite the sun. "Strange...Are you hiding my shadow?" He asked it. Wishing it could talk back. But then again-that would be quite frightening. A talking shadow. He laughed at the though gently.
Suddenly, in the corner of his eye, he spotted a gray figure. He turned his head to look, while he took one or more gentle steps backward. Taking a closer look, his eyes became wide with surprise.
it was a gray mustang, a mare no less. But that was not what was astonishing; she was also a draft horse. Just like him. She had a heavy build, like him. Was much taller than average, like him. Had thick feathering, like him! "Same!" He burst out loud before he could top himself."

Her head shot up as a voice suddenly called out. She was aware of the stallions approach but was not prepared for the sudden shout. She got quickly to her feet and looked upon him. She shook her mane slightly to flatten it out before addressing him. "Good day to you kind sir. My name is Faerin. What would your name be?" She asked in a silky voice that seemed to flow from her mouth.
She took a moment to better inspect him while she waited for a response. He was a heavy built horse, much like her, which was quite odd for these parts. Most horses were light, built more for speed than power like they were. It was actually quite refreshing to see another draft horse among all the lighter, faster mustangs. "What brings you out here this fine day?"

Szad watched as she approached. His natural fear already embedded in his eyes. But he was not going to run. Not this time. He tried to give her a nervous smile as she approached closer. Even even took three steps towards her as well.
"Faerin..." He said gently. A very unusual name. "I-im Szad. Nice t-to meet you..." He bowed his head down in welcome. Unlike her silky voice, his was stuttery and chopped.
And when he looked up once more into her large eyes, his ears flicked around, listening t the lively sounds of the forest that had just sprung around them. "I..er..that's...its a n-nice day to...stroll." He said quietly. His light face touched with pink.

"It is good to meet you as well Szad." She said as she inclined her head slightly. It was so nice to meet another horse who had good manners, especially a stallion. So often she would run into other horses and they seemed to not care for formality. This stallion seemed different though.
Her head bobbed slightly as he spoke again. "Indeed it is a lovely day to take a stroll. Which is why I am out and about." She glanced around at the beauty that was the lands around them. "Tell me Szad, do you live around here or are you merely traveling through?" She smiled slightly as she watched the pink come to his face, oh how cute he's shy, she thought to herself.

Szad looked up at her, hiding slightly behind his thick bang. A hint of blush still on his face. This was the first mare he had encountered one on one. And for some reason he was really nervous. He didn't want to run away, the kind mare was obviously not out to harm him or harass him...maybe it was just her very polite manner. It intimated him...Not that he was afraid of her...but just her manner was so direct...
While he was in thought, the mare continued to speak. She made Szad's head move up gently when she specified that they had a similar reason for being out. It was just a small detail, but it made Szad feel almost safe. As if he could trust her. Though he had more sense than to just go and trust complete strangers, but it was a step forward.
"Oh..no, I l-live here." Though he was very new to the lands. Only making them his home two months or so ago. "B-but Im new...How about you... Miss Faerin?"

Faerin couldn't help but think it was cute how shy Szad was, it was uncommon for a stallion to be so, but it was nice to not have an overbearing stallion either. Ah so he did live here, perhaps he could tell her the best places to stay. "Well no I don't live here per say, I have been traveling around looking for a nice place to settle down in, and perhaps a herd to join as well."
She glanced out at the meadow they stood in, this place certainly was beautiful and she hadn't run into any mean horses yet so it had good potential. "Do you know if there are any herds that live around here? Or is it mostly roaming horses?"

Szad stood silently. He wanted to answer but his mouth wouldn't let him. Somewhere, deep in his heart, he felt anger. Not towards the polite mare, but to herds. Any herd. He didn't know why... He tired to remember...but nothing came. He hated having such little memory of his past. He tried harder to answer her.
"n-no...I don't know of any specific o-ones. But i have heard of a f-few. Im n-not too sure...where they live though..." He looked down, slightly embarrassed he could not give her adequate information. But he couldn't help but wonder...Who would even want to join a herd?

Faerin considered Szad’s answer carefully. So there were herds around here somewhere but where exactly he didn’t know. “Well I suppose I shall watch out for them then. Although I had no intention of joining a herd any time soon. I enjoy my freedom far too much.” Perhaps eventually she would join a herd, when she felt she needed the protection or socialization that came with it, however for now she just wanted to roam. There was so much of this area she was yet to see, the idea of staying in one spot for the rest of her life was just not an option right now.
She realized that she had fallen into that awkward silence that often happens when two individuals meet for the first time and run out of things to say. Well she couldn’t let that happen, so she thought hard on how to keep the conversation going. “It certainly is a nice day today don’t you think? Although all too soon the snow will begin to cover the meadows. Do you like the snow?” Okay so that wasn’t the best conversation saver, but it was the best she could come out with for now.

the time of the silence did not even elapse for him. he was once again deep in his thoughts. Struggling to remember. It hurt him. Hurt him so much that he didn't know his past. That he didn't know himself. He didn't notice or feel the long pause between them. He kept silent, shut inside himself.
"Do you like the snow...?" His eyes opened and he looked up at her. His eyes wide with curiosity and gentleness. His face glowing with a child-like purity. "Snow...?" he whispered. "What is snow?" It sounded beautiful. Gentle, caring loving, quite. Like an angle. It sounded familiar.

He didn't know what snow was, how odd, she thought. Well no matter, she would explain it to his as best she could. "Well snow is similar to rain. Although it is much colder. It collects on the ground, coating the grass in a blanket of white." She stated as she recalled the many snow falls she had seen in her life. They always seemed to bring joy to her. "And when you walk on it, it makes this delightful crunching sound under your hooves."

Szad's face glowed with childish excitement. He wiggled happily as the mare tried as best to her abilities to explain.
"Snow." he chimed. And then knelt down to the ground, pressing himself flat against the earth and stared at the grass. Eyes wide, looking for 'snow'.

Faerin couldn't help but chuckle at the stallion as he knelt to take a closer look at the grass. It was obvious he was looking for this illusive snow. "There is no snow here right now. But there should be soon." She told him.
She figured it would be best to explain it a little bit more. "When the air is filled with tiny flecks of white you will know its snowing. And when the grass is covered with white, and the tree branches bend under the weight of the snow then winter will be upon us."

Szad looked up at her, his eyes a little disappointing. There was no snow here. Not yet. Winter had to come first, it seemed. He continued to lay on the ground, it was comfortable. And he listened to the mare as she continued to explain.
He smiled gently, her voice was so gentle, she sounded so caring. He closed his eyes. The description was so familiar. He didn't know why. He could see the scene in the dark of his closed eyes. It was bright and vivid, as if it was right infront of him.
"Snow sounds p-pretty....I hope it c-comes soon...soon."

Faerin smiled down at the stallion as he lay in the grass. It was almost like he was a foal trapped in a stallions body. "Snow is indeed very pretty." She told him. The air did have a slight chill to it today and that was the signs that winter was on its way. "I'm sure it will snow soon. The weather has been turning colder for quite some time now."
She wondered just how this stallion would manage once the snow fell and buried all the grass underneath its white blanket. "What will you do once winter arrives?" She asked him.
