Whenever I try to write something, it always ends up violent. To clarify, I can write post like these without ever mentioning blood and gore, but when it isn’t a research paper or I have too much freedom over the piece, I can’t stop from writing violence. Normally this wouldn’t bother me, but when you write a story, it’s generally a good idea to get past the first chapter without a massive battle. Or, if you start there to build interest, it’s a good idea to not have the second, third, and fourth chapters filled with massive death scenes. I used to be able to write with gaps between violence but lately it’s like I literally can’t. Any suggestions?

The only thing I can tell you is to look through your work, and write everything out. Go the first 5 chapters with massive violence and when you can't write anymore about that, go back through and match those chapters with intervals in the fighting. The way I lay all my work out is I start with one basic idea. Maybe just one line, one sentance of emotion and build around that. It seems to have worked for me so far. Although I am in a dry spell... I don't have a muse, any motivation to write... But I hope this helps you.
