WHO WOULD WIN?! Pharaun Mizzrym, master of Sorcere, in line to take over when Gromph dies from an insane accident. Lady Austriel of Silverymoon, the ruler of Silverymoon and a very accomplished mage who fended off the drow during their invasion.

Rofl easy. Alustriel.
Not only does she have the protection of Mystra, she has the backing of Silver Fire. There is no spell that a non-chosen can cast that would ever compare to that spell.
Plus, Pharaun never actually did anything hugely* noteworthy in terms of power, that I noticed.

Well, Pharaun never did anything too intense, but everything he does do reeks of power that he doesn't feel like using. And Gromph, GROMPH BAENRE, seems to be afraid of his ambitiousness and fears that Pharaun will take over as Archmage when he dies. And he seems to have a never ending repertoire of spells. He did beat an illithilich, remember?

Alustriel took on a chain of about 5 Red Wizard Archmages, and a Zulkir. All were ready and at full power, while she was caught by surprise.

well, as much as i would like to say Pharaun woudl win, he's a bloody coward, and he only accomplishes ANYTHING he does by using other people or things to keep him safe. he'd most likely run away from Lady Alustriel. xd

I'd go with Pharaun, mostly on the fact that he would have loaded up with artifacts from the vaults of Sorcere that wouldn't give Austriel a chance to bring Silver fire to bear...

Yeah...in terms of "badassery," Pharaun would definitely win. I'm not terribly fond of Lady Alustriel from what I've seen of her in the books. Silverymoon just reeks of "ZOMG LOOKIT I R PRANCING FAERIE ELF."
But I don't know. Alustriel, I'm thinking, fights by the book. And Pharaun (being a drow) doesn't exactly do that. Hnh.

Actually now that I think about it, knowing Pharaun and his "tendancies" (see war of the spider queen books) he'd probably find a way to weasle his way into Alustriel's bed thenuse her as an emotional puppet as he pulls the strings to obtain more power, both arecanely and politically.
