Liberal racism.
I wanted to post this on the forums but I might as well just keep it here for now until I can expand on it. Sorry if it sounds and looks like a badly done essay...
I don't know about any other area in the US but in CA and a little about AZ. But from my own experiences it really makes wanna puke. Like I'm getting so sick of dealing with it on the daily basic. Rather it's dealing with pseudo-Liberal whites that are in fact racist but not really cause "hey, they voted for President Obama." Or being the Token Black for any event or friend or something along those lines.
I hate it in the media, the internet, and around my campus. I'm not saying that things were better when people were openly racist and would just egg Blacks and other minority groups in the street.
I dunno it's hard to express it over the web but it's like nothing really change it's just more mentally than physically nowadays. It's still the same.
Like you have these Whites, Asians, Latinos or hell anyone that appear to try to be all open-minded and what not. Like everyone want to be hip about another culture but it doesn't mean they respect the people of that culture.
Like let's use mainstream Rap and Manga/Anime as example to explain where I'm trying to get at. We have (usually) White suburban kids eating up one or the other. They will say up and down they aren't racist but it's all the know. They usually are against things like Affirmative action, they believe that by listening to all the mainstream rap that they "hip" to the Black cause.
On the flip side with the anime and/or Manga that the Japanese are gods and shouldn't be ever abuse and everything they do is totally excusable. However if you talk to any other Asian groups especially Pacific Islanders, Koreans, and Chinese their feelings about the Japanese are nearly the same as when Blacks talk about whites.
To some extent Japanese (historically) are as bad as Whites here in the West. However you can't say this to any white kid who 99% sure they will be naming their kid Inuyasha Jr. or something.
Nor can you point out the fact that Memoirs of a Geisha is all White man's fiction and it's full of misrepresentation. That actually Japanese people don't even know much about Geisha and that like other aspects of their culture it's kind of hush-hush and surrounded by folk-lore.
Plus it's a dying tradition as Japan get more and more Americanized by the second.
I read manga and watch the romance anime but I will tell you straight up I watch the dubs, can't speak a lick of Japanese, and I don't think they are the SHITZ. At the same time I also understand I don't understand much of their culture and I do NOT try to.
Which bring me about to this "Hey I taken classes in Afro-Studies" mind-set. Maybe I'm being kind of jaded when I say unless you are that culture it's hard to fully understand the culture.
I mean you can take as many classes, read, and interact with a culture all you like I don't feel it that it then makes you a spokesperson for that culture nor does it fully means you understand that culture as a whole. As even with all that you only know a fraction or a certain percent of that culture. Plus no culture or people are this monolithic group that thinks, eats, and live the same way.
However, if you talk to some SF white chick they will fight you till their red in the face that this is the case. That all us Black folks like totally dig Jay-Z and Nas. I mean yeah like not Blacks like Hip-hop cause some of them are like "white washed" so they like rock...
Yup I actually had a conversation like that once. I'm white-wash because I don't like mainstream rap music folks. Because Rock is white music and Rap is black music.
Never the mind the fact that both were created via African-Americans. However I guess she didn't take the same Afro studies professor I did.
Then you hear people online swear up and down that there's no such thing as Black culture. We are Americans! When did this happen? (I mean for a few days after 9-11 it kind of did but yeah) If we were truly accepted into the American culture wouldn't media surrounding Black folks have changed? Yeah we have a "Halfer" in office but still. Really do these kids even know what culture means?
I also had roommates that consider me odd because I'm playing Pokemon games, watching stuff like Sailor Moon, and no I really, really can't play any sports, dance, sing, or tell funny jokes. Worst still I had roommates that wanted "Black people food" rolleyes Yeah nah b***h you touch my mama's greens N things and I'll show you how Black I can get. *sigh* First year college experience.
My cousins who wanted to try something new decided to go to Chico. It's even worst there. There's about 20-30 Black student out of a pop. of I guess 17,132 as of Fall 08:
Ethnicity
African American 2.2%
American Indian 1.0%
Asian American 5.45%
Filipino 0.83%
Mexican American 8.99%
Other Latino 3.41%
Pacific Islander 0.51%
White, Non-Latino 66.48%
Unknown 11.06%

(hmm they took my cousin off the welcome students page. I'm sad)
Also isn't it funny that even with AA (rather or not we have it on record) that's the racial break up? Yet all these schools will claim that they are sooooooo diversity and that YOU will fit well within the student body?
Or how so-called liberal whites are still saying that AA is reverse racism? (I'll do another thread on this later on)
What the hell is revers racism? As I agree with Spike Lee as I still don't see how minorities can be racist against Whites. As least systematically or legally anyway. I mean what can we really do, kick them out of the inner city? Stop them from playing Basketball? Do Black employers not hire whites because their credit is jacked up? That whole concept is laughable imo. Yeah two wrongs don't make a right but still.
So yeah in a nut-shell: Although the Civil Rights movement has changed practices on the records and made things like beating up minorities socially unacceptably. This doesn't change the fact that many negativity view points still exist. Really all that happen is a big band-aid was put on the nation but the racial stupidity is still puss-ing out like a nasty boil on your foot.
Change will come indeed.
