Reading: Nita is a huge bookworm. A fast and prolific reader, Nita makes frequent trips to the library, where the staff all recognize her-- even if they don't know her name. Her preferred genre is fantasy, with a good bit of hard science fiction mixed in. Favorite authors include Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Jane Yolen, Sherri Tepper, and Orson Scott Card.One longtime favorite series is Diane Duane's "Young Wizards," the main character of which is named Nita.

LiveJournal: While Nita is hardly a blogger, she does keep an online journal. This journal is personal and is one of the ways she allows herself to express her true thoughts and feelings. Her LJ straddles the line between privacy and a need attention/validation.

Choir: The reputation of Meadowview's choir is a major reason she chose to attend. Nita is a classically trained soprano and, at her old school in Somewherelseville, was a strong voice in their small ensemble. She's well-suited to group singing, and expressing herself through music is very important. However, she is definitely not one to push herself forward for solos because too much attention, positive or negative, leads to freaking out.

Virtues:
Contemplative: Nita is a thinker. Even though she's outwardly quiet, there's always something going on in her mind. She's good at making connections and coming up with a big picture based on seemingly random facts. However, because of her natural reservation, she's not likely to share her ruminations with just anyone. In spite of (or perhaps because of) her good grades, Nita is not a show-off. Her modesty and ability to project 'normal' generally keep her under the radar of those who might tease her.

Studious: There's no doubt that Nita is smart. She is an excellent student, and usually gets comments like "A pleasure to have in class" on her report cards. Her favorite classes are English and History, but she does well enough in science and math. Math is her weakest subject, not because she doesn't understand it, but because she doesn't especially care. Overall Nita likes school, and it bothers her when students act out in class, or are deliberately stupid. Nita is always in the middle of a book and keeps one with her at all times, in case she gets stuck waiting in a line, or on the bus or something.

Diplomatic: Nita is a born mediator. She's good at looking at a problem from multiple angles, and helping others find a solution that's satisfactory for both parties. Although she's not especially experienced with relationship issues, she likes to give advice. In general, she tries to be tactful in difficult situations, although this could certainly be difficult considering some of the characters in Destiny City.

Facility with Language: Nita does have a special gift for language, and words in general. She has an enormous vocabulary, partially from reading so much, and largely because words are fun. She loves figuring out cognates and etymology. Even picky grammar rules make sense to her. While not quite fluent in either, Nita reads both French and German.


Flaws:
High Standards: Although Nita tries to be helpful, it can only go so far. If someone refuses to cooperate, she'll get very frustrated. If someone is blatantly stupid, she's probably thinking some very nasty things about them, and they're SOL for future homework help. Nita also has a bossy streak. She likes to get her way, because, of course, it's the right way to do things. However, if someone resists too much, she won't press the issue, because conflict leads to high emotions, which lead to fits of crying.

Insecure: Inwardly, Nita is terribly insecure. Her 'good girl' appearance is just that- a front for protecting herself from her own misgivings. This insecurity is at the root of her issues with conflict and discord. What if she actually is wrong? What if someone hates her? What if she's not as brilliant as her teachers think she is? What if she disappoints someone?

Over-emotional: To put it not so delicately, Nita is kind of a crybaby. She doesn't mean to be, but she's sensitive and tends to pick up on strong emotions-- particularly negative ones. If a friend or classmate is upset, she'll tear up. If it's a friend, she's probably crying too. Then she gets horribly embarrassed, which only makes things worse. When Nita cries she hyperventilates, making her red, blotchy and shaky for hours afterward. Sympathy only makes it worse. It's best to leave her alone until she regains her composure. These breakdowns are cracks in the reserved persona she projects. [This is totally a weakness, as is her insecurity.]

Physical Description:

Hair: Red-orange, coarse, curly, about mid-back length. Typically worn in two braids or pigtails.

Eyes: Green, with barely visible lashes and eyebrows.

Face: Heart-shaped, pointed chin, widow's peak. Freckles across the nose. (Fair skin, obvs.)

Body: Just over 5ft, Small hips and chest, ever so slightly chubby (think baby fat).

Fashion: Comfortable and casual. Jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, maybe some funky socks. Minimal jewelry- single-pierced earlobes, Celtic cross necklace. Recently switched from glasses to contact lenses.

Senshi: Sailor Nashira, Senshi of Paper

Concept: Nashira is a blue-white star in the constellation Capricornus (Capricorn). The Arabic name means "she who brings good news." Focus on paper, printed text, messages, communication, the written word.
-Messenger bag
-Paper of all sorts: white/printer, lined, linen, papyrus, newspaper, stationery (From the Desk of Sailor Nashira...)
-Notes, letters, telegrams (messages not received, or erroneously changed).
-Paper airplanes, origami (used in future attacks, also with appropriate passages written on them).
-Casual, comfortable clothing
-Warm autumn colors
-Hooded jacket (hood as collar?).
-Converse boots

Attack:
Attack #1 (for senshi)
NAME: Scroll of Binding
[What it does] Sailor Nashira throws her Scroll of Binding, which unwinds and expands around her opponent. The scroll temporarily binds youma. Against Negaverse agents, the scroll temporarily blocks their communication with the outside world (sight, sound). This attack only lasts for a minute, which is about how long it would take to tear through a similar amount of paper. She'd probably need to work with a partner, as this more of a defensive attack.
(Written on the scroll is text from The Tempest, (Act I, Scene II) describing the spirit Ariel's imprisonment in a 'cloven pine' by the witch Sycorax).

Random awake-in-the-middle-of-the-night!

LJ is exclusive, but just for fun. She doesn't really care about 'blogging;' it's a personal journal. (I have a really complicated thought that I will try to elaborate on when it is not 4:30AM!


I was actually thinking I'd change "intelligent" to "studious." As for a not-great subject, that would be math, which she gets decent grades in, but doesn't really like or care about. As for nerdy, definitely. She's quiet and reserved- but not necessarily shy. She just doesn't blurt out her business to everyone (that's what the LJ is for!). She was teased a fair amount in her younger years so she keeps quiet-- but it's still pretty obvious she's a nerd, and she's okay with that. It'll probably depend more on her fellow students as to whether or not it affects her negatively, so I didn't want to be like THE KIDS R MEEN 2 HER if, actually, being a good student is the norm. She's not a show-off; she's an A student because she expects it of herself and always has been. (And this gets into the 'frustrated with people who don't take school seriously' thing). Too much attention, positive or negative, leads to freaking out. That's why she is NOT a soloist.

Language: This is something I'm actually basing one me, IRL (bad! bad! I know!). I really really do pick up languages like crazy, French and German in particular. No one at home speaks it as a first language, but both of my parents are good at languages-- my dad is a Latin teacher. The way it works for me is, I get the basics down and the rest just.. comes. A lot of it is context, and my ability to read/comprehend is much stronger than speaking. Writing it out first helps, to figure out word order. In terms of classes, I went through German 4 in two years, and then French 5 (plus hanging out with the AP class and doing an intensive two-week college course, doing a lot of independent study) in the next year and a half. XD I kind of made teachers go Buhhh?? redface It's one of those things that sounds really improbable to people, but totally normal to me because.. I did it. o/ I know what you mean about it sounding Sue-ish, but that's not the intent.

Hyperventilating: No no, just the effects last for hours: "When Nita cries she hyperventilates, and she'll be blotchy and shaky for hours afterward."

Inwardly, she's terribly insecure, which is why she's so leery of conflict. What if she actually is wrong? What if someone hates her? She uses her schoolwork as a sort of a front for "happy, well-adjusted, good student Nita." Other than the fits of crying, which are awfully alarming to watch, she comes off as "that little quiet girl who is smart." In terms of backstory (I hinted at this), her family is new to Destiny City, so she's new to the school (either in the fall, or maybe transferring half-way through the year), and has an opportunity to be bright and shiny instead of falling a part all the time. We'll see if that works, har har. (Conflict? In MY Destiny City? It's more likely than you think!)

(Mostly I didn't really know where to PUT this stuff, in terms of virtues/flaws, because there are pros and cons to all of it).

I probably will add in some extra notes. I'm really new to the shop, so I wasn't sure how strictly we need to follow the forms.

I am loving the idea SO HARD! Just a few things that need tweaking.

Reserved is coming off as a flaw. Unless you can give it a positive spin, I would drop down to flaws?

Facility with Language and, to a lesser extent, Studious are both coming off as skills rather than virtues. You need to focus on how these effect her personality, and how they help her in student, social and senshi situations. Virtues are basically "personality strengths" - they either help her or make her a good person.

Flaws are all excellent!

For the attack, it needs a lot more information about the limitations. If it's more powerful to use pages from real stories, perhaps leave that for a later stage attack? But I really want to know what she can or can't have happen at this early stage. If there a logic limit, as Ende suggested, limited to what is plausible or already in the environment?

I'm just going to recommend a few attack tweaks - for first level tone things down so you're not wrapped up for a full minute (battles = short, minutes = long, 30 seconds would be a better bet -- or maybe cut off the duration so it lasts until the target has broken out of the paper), and maybe cut down the sealing magic part? <3 The fact that you have paper tightly wrapped around you and it's hard to break out of works well enough on its own for a starting-level attack. It also sounds like a lot of fun in RP. XD

Alright, then -- I was waiting for you to make the tweak to move you to the Accepted Quests, but if you're changing the attacks completely I believe that would call for another mark request.

Personality's looking good though; if you decide to revamp attacks repost your quest for marks. <3;; I'm still new with this so I'll check with Maru too and see if that's the way to go about it. XD
