This was relaxing, Vera thought as she drew back the arrow for another shot. She was the only one near the archery targets, as far as she could see, which was not a problem. So it was in relative silence that she practiced her shooting, something which the girl privately admitted was more in the nature of a meditative exercise than actual practice. The rhythm of it all was soothing - knock, pull, release, repeated until she ran out of arrows or finished her goal. And she badly needed soothing, after the events of the past few days. Firmly pushing those memories to the back of her mind, she loosed the arrow, already pulling another one up from the ground next to her before it had hit the target.

She'd long since given up on shooting for a bullseye every time (except if she was being scored or tested), and now spent her time marking off patterns in the target. She'd previously decorated it with an O shape, and was now working on an X. The shot Vera had previously fired landed neatly in the upper right, almost completing the figure. A quick sight down the range, and Vera had another arrow knocked and pulled back, ready to loose.

This one was a bullseye, aimed to finish the mark and to show off to the (nonexistant) audience.

Archery. Now there was a sport he'd yet to try, and he'd been observing the girl for quite some time now. She was an excellent shot--one would have to be blind to disagree--and not only that, but she seemed to be amusing herself by making pictures of sorts with the arrows she let fly. It wasn't until the last arrow slammed solidly into the bullseye that the teacher lifted his hands, clapping slowly while the sound echoed on.

"You ever thought of trying out for competitions?" He mused; there was no archery team at Barren Pines as far as he knew... well, and if there was, not a serious one. But this girl knew how to knock an arrow, and Drew, despite himself, was highly intrigued. It wasn't every day that you met someone with a potentially lethal skill!

Stepping off the tree he'd been leaning of, the man approached thoughtfully to stand somewhat near her, arms folded across his chest as he squinted at the bullseye. "What's it supposed to be?"

At the sound of the clapping, Vera whirled to face it, hair flying out behind her and one hand grasping at (and missing) another arrow. Oh. It was the new gym teacher, nothing to worry about. "No," she said, rather curtly. Her mother had tried to make her, once upon a time, but when you shot as well as Vera, messing up to get out of things was a trivial matter. It was boring, always going for the bullseye, always getting the highest score - at her previous, public, school, Vera hadn't even been allowed to participate in the archery lessons with the other students. They'd tried to get her to assist with teaching it, but the fact was, she just couldn't explain something that she simply knew how to do.

"An X?" she answered, cocking an eyebrow. She'd just finished the thing, so it should have been easy to figure out.

There was a long suffering sigh at that. "Yes. An X." He said just as blandly back, shaking his head. "You need to work on your theatrics, miss. Paint me a story. Something deep and riveting that my poor, archery-feeble mind. Now. What is it?" This may or may not have been a game to him, and after he stretched a little. He was half tempted to ask for the bow, but he was not going to be responsible if an arrow ricocheted off and impaled someone in the eye.

"Mm... Vera, was it?" He named her after a moment, and, in a moment of unexpected 'look I'm being nice!', offered a compliment she was probably already used to. "Got a great shot."

Vera stared at him. Was he serious? "....It's an X," she repeated, shrugging her shoulders somewhat irritably. Honestly, some people just shouldn't be teachers; gym might not be the hardest class, intellectually speaking, but surely there were some requirements! Besides, she wasn't about to admit that she was making X's and O's because she'd been practicing tic tac toe by herself.

"Yes, Mr. Collins," she said, showing that haha! she knew his name too, and wasn't this just special. "Thank you." As if that wasn't why she was here in the first place, her shooting ability. It was something she had heard far too often, and still served to ratchet up her already simmering low level annoyance with everyone and everything.

"And you lack creativity." He shot back, hands on his hips for a moment even as he eyed her up and down. These were his requirements, and if she was refusing to play along, well, seemed like a detention-worthy excuse if he ever saw one... "Let me show you how, since clearly this is harder than shooting a target; it could be an X representing the bacterial meningitis going around school! Your turn."

Oh, yes, very special! Drew was starting to grin a little with amusement, clearly having no problems with spending quality time with the antisocial girl. "Why, I bet you could even be on television. The Olympics."
