Catalyst moaned; the vibration trembling within his throat, then echoing about his immediate surroundings. His ears flicked back against his cranium as his body shifted with every heavily set step. His tail lashed, whipping his side and sloshing the drizzling rain about his grizzly form. He marched through the woods, his head held lazily just below his shoulders, dangling helplessly. His eyes shattered into millions of smoldering pieces as he attempted to keep them open; the burn of slumber climaxing every moment.
He could smell the rain, taste it, and feel it; its moist texture rapping gently against his mass and trickling down his pelt. His lips frothed with thirst, his tongue demonstrating this by flaunting just below his chin, and his paws throbbed with an everlasting pain. Bones ached and migraines became frequent visitors to the mind. The suns rays teased his fragile eyes and brought heavy thrusts of pain into his head. He was indeed getting old.
'Old' he grumbled to himself, as if the word had been spoken not a moment before. Sneering the thought and tossing his head to one side before allowing it to hastily settle into its original slot, he spoke again, ?I am neither old nor young. Merely in between, and that is all.? His words were sour, and his eyes began to squint as if he were upset over something.
Taking a brief refuge beside a rotting log, the large male breathed, heavily, then lifted his head, cocking it just so the shade of the large, nestled leaves protected his glowering eyes. The rain slipped through a small gap between the rows of lining trees and gently struck him on the nose, causing his neck to jerk. Though he steadied himself and quickly allowed his pain-stricken eyelids to shut loosely over the thin, watery seals of his opals. His ears coaxed the sound of winds, rustling trees, and cooing birds to filter through his harks and relax his thoughts; his body following this motion by lowering to the earth, and resting peacefully amongst the leaves.
The rain, that seemed to pour down onto the wood soon slowed, yet left behind a ghastly gale that struck Catalyst in an instant. His pelt was littered with moisture, his nose and eyes both recognized this, and his body appeared well-rested and seemingly prepared for yet another lazy trot to the next fallen, rotting stump. He cautiously lifted himself off the messy earth and shakily stood before the mess of flattened leaves. Casting a weary glance towards the earth, he shook his massive head, then swiftly turned about, eastward, and made a slow, gallant trot in that direction. Following what seemed to be an endless, scented trail of lupin that hung in the air.

Not too far away from the old male, was the old female that was looking for him.
Kal had told her 'pack' and others she had met along the way that she had just needed a little break from 'packlife'. It was perfectly understandable, though, so it wasn't like she was creating some strange and deranged story for her own benefit. It was common for long-time loners to be a little uncomfortable going into packlife... or in her case, back into. What she was doing, really, though, was looking for Catalyst. Ever since their first and second meeting, she couldn't seem to get him out of her mind. She had seen yearlings before, and how they always fell for the most impossible, older wolves. This.... this was different, however, somehow.
Padding along she sniffed the air, hoping to catch some scent of him or just SOMETHING to let her know where on earth he was. She felt strangely casual, coming out here and looking for the male that had called her blind eye beautiful.
Perhaps that's what had gotten to the female's mind.
No matter, though, for it seemed she wasn't even going to have time to think about it. Ahead of her she saw another of her kind, walking as if his heart had been crushed or something. Unsure of whether or not she wanted to deal with him, Kalia eventually just decided that it would be best to avoid him--the scent told her the other was a him but the rain masked his scent that would tell her who he was--and save herself some trouble of dealing with some weird male who was probably moping over something or other.
Yet as the large female was about to turn to leave, a fox suddenly leaped out in front of her and went after this bird on the ground. The action surprised her and an inevitable growl/yelp escaped her lips. Gray fur stood on end as she took up a defensive pose. In the next instant, though, after having figure out it was a fox chasing a meal, she only narrowed her eyes.
"Next time you do that I'm going to eat you for dinner!" she yelled at him, maybe a little louder than she should have. But the fox seemed to get the message, for he shivered then took off with his meal.
(( Hope ya don't mind me joining... sweatdrop ))

((Not at all! ^___^))
'Ah, what a blissful nap that was.' the o'l male gloated as he paraded through the forest. His eyes were wide with curiosity and his ears were pricked with pride. It was indeed a pleasurable slumber, one he needed dearly, for he had been on the move since he arrived here, in the wood. Yet, the first intentions he had once been obsessing over when stumbling upon the new terrain were carefully hidden amongst the other old memories, and now were almost 'replaced' with new thoughts and ideas...of coarse he still pondered about Soul, his daughter and the thoughts of finding her were still there, they were simply left...unnoticed.
He made his way on, past more tree's and open area's, with more drizzles of rain, but never once thought of stopping for yet another rest. He felt energetic, youthful. He wanted to spring into a lake and roll on the riverbeds of streaming ponds. He was ready for action, ready to go on long hunts with others of his kind. As his mind worked wonders to his current mental state, he nearly missed a sudden detection of movement, nearest him.
He froze, instantly. His body taking notice of this sudden action and registering it immediately as a threat. His head jerked to the side, so as he could take a better look at his attackie, but soon calmed his britches and spun about completely, peering curiously at the object before him. There, loomed a silvery she-wolf, snarling angrily at a fleeing fox.
'Kal' he voiced, partially speaking to himself. He cocked his head inquiringly and craned his neck towards the other wolf, taking in gulp-full of familiar scents. Finally, he was able to match the figure before him with the scent he knew all to well, and simply grinned a curious grin. A smug chuckle then escaped his maw as he spoke louder, and this time to the female. 'Haven't you ever been told to never play with yer' food?' his voice sounded a bit hoarse, croaky if anything, and came out a bit more sly then he intended. His approach was casual, he maundered his first paw, his left front paw, forwards towards her, gliding it across the dusty earth before planting it firmly in the ground. Then, he drew his next step, which allowed him to stoop slightly, as if he were prowling and about to pounce.
'Hello beautiful,' He cocked his head, his face turning from a slimy grin to a most content stare. He was obviously trying his best to look serious. As he spoke, he began to look deep into her eyes, taking heaps of notice to the completely silver pupil. He remembered the eye, and couldn't help taking his gaze off it.
Such beauty... he thought to himself, as he pulled his body upwards to a comfortable stand.

"Haha, my mother actually thought it a great way to teach us how to hunt when my brother and I were pups. Since all we cared about was playing, she let us so long as she believed it educational." The reply from the femme's mouth was something she had not counted on. Her voice was smooth, silvery, too, to match her coat. It was almost as casual as his, though not as croaky. Despite its obvious lack of use, however, the male's voice set of some memories of meeting him and the feeling that she had had when in his company, but it took her a moment to actually notice that Catalyst was the one speaking and coming closer towards her.
When she did, though, her bushy thing some liked to call a tail wagged uncontrollably. She was a tad embarassed, though, having only met him twice really. Her face grew hot and if it weren't for the fur that covered her face he would have been able to tell that she was blushing like crazy. Although her fur covered her cheeks, the inside of her ears were bare and so they gave away her obvious 'swoon' type of behavior around him.
Then, as she was called beautiful by the other, Kal couldn't help but stop and stare. The only other males.... well, ANY others, for that matter.... who had called her beautiful had been Koro and Shetani, the brats who claimed to have a deep 'love' and 'affection' for her.
Hmph, some love they showed her. At first she was thrilled that someone could possibly want her for a mate--when she was much younger than she was now, of course. But soon she was forbidden to see her brother and so that really set the female off... well, no need to go into detail...
Recovering from her initial shock, the gray wolfess pivoted towards him then slowly circled around him, swishing her tail in a playful manner at him. The one she had been looking for, here he was. It was amazing, the way fate and all that crap worked. It was also amazing how the rumble in her throat strangely soundly like that of a cat's purr, content and showing complete happiness.
"Now where have you been all this time?" she asked, tone as casual as before. "Not off with any other females, I hope?" This last one was a tease.... but perhaps...
Perhaps Kalia meant it.

"Wise and graceful, the pack used to say, a motherfigure too. Even Laea had to admit that my mother had a once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity personality, and it was pretty hard to win that old mutt's approval." A sly grin began to appear on the she-wolf's face. It was just all too easy to talk about back home, now, it seemed, ever since she had gotten over her leaving her pack and everything else. And it had been all too easy for everyone else back home to forget about her, she believed. They had never particularly liked Kal for some reason or another, perhaps because she was more like her fierce father than her elegant mother. Ah well.
Forgetting about her history and such for the moment, she concentrated her attention on the male in front of her, the one she was circling. When she got around to his tail, however, it was impossible to resist the urge to n** at his tail, and so she pawed at in then nudged his rump with her shoulder before walking around back to his front.
A pink-with-blush ear flicked in his direction as she listened to his voice. It sounded somewhat un-used, but that didn't mean that it seemed unappealing. Oh, no. If anything, it had made it seem all the more attractive to her ears. Emotions could do that to ya, it's true.
"Good," she replied firmly with a nod of her head to his 'past destinations not being all that interesting'... at least he hadn't been off with some other femals, frolicking about and forgetting about her. If there was something that peeved Kalia most of all, it was being ignored and forgotten by those she considers close to her heart, or at least what she has of a heart.
In response to his asking of where she'd been, the gray wolfess casually turned her back to him, her ears perked attentively forward. It was always fun, playing a little hard to get.
"Me? Eh, here and there... searching for a certain someone..."
Orbs--or orb, really, since one was unseeing--faced forward and didn't even flicker in Catalyst's direction. It was obvious she was trying to make it seem like he wasn't the one she had been looking for, but rather it was someone else, someone she seemed to be fantasizing about at this very moment.

'Indeed, she sounds it.' he agreed, but seeing as she looked as if about to change subjects, he dropped it and decided to continue watching her pace about him. His eyes caught her's on occasions, but most of the time watched her paws, taking note as to how each one lifted at different times with such grace.
As the two fell silent, and all but the woods natural callings rang out, he felt her rub against his rump with what he thought was her shoulder, and nab at his tail. Turning his head about, he gave Kal an awkward glance, cocking his head and grinning sheepishly. He liked the touch of this female, even if it was only play. He watched her then continue her rounds bout him, her pelt flowing with the gentle, caressing winds. 'I see you dislike staying put as well.' He gestured his head to her consistent trotting, before grinning and lifting himself onto his haunches. Placing the majority of his weight on them.
He then listened to her voice. It sung through his ears, and echoed into the air. He felt the words lick him upon the cheek, as if she had done so herself. He gazed into her eyes, giving a low 'purr' like rumble from his throat, then quirked a brow.
'So, there's someone else in your life. I'm not surprised the least, your a fascinating she-wolf and an elegant female in general. I'd be surprised if you WEREN'T looked upon by the males.' He smiled, his bushy tail thrashing about happily. He loved teasing her, he loved speaking to her in his sassy-a** ways. He simply Adored speaking with her. He always expected nothing less then an interesting conversation when coming in contact with her. She was never clung to by a boring topic.
Seeing as the female seemed preoccupied with another thought, Catalyst moved over towards the female, and gently placed a 'kiss' onto her cheek. His wet, salivating tongue trailing up her cleansed pelt and leaving a long, slick trail of spit. Though, he hoped the female wouldn't draw back and scoff in disgust, he stayed put, very close to the females face, very close to Kalia's warmth.

'Staying in one place for too long allows your enemies to observe you.'
The saying rang through her ears when Catalyst commented on her not liking to stay in one spot. Of course, it was only logical that she not stay in one place for too long, unless, of course, she was with a pack and so would have a greater strength against enemies. While Kal was wandering, however, there had been no such luxuries as strength in numbers and so she had simply resorted to traveling constantly. It served a reason for her searching for him, most would just believe her to be fidgety and restless.
Amidst her thoughts, she had also been keen enough to listen to the rest of the male's words. It would not do to ignore him just because of some fake fantasy that was really all of her thoughts on random things in disguise.
When Catalyst had mentioned something about being surprised if males didn't exactly flock around her, Kalia faltered slightly. An ear flicked in his direction and her unseeing eye glazed over just a tad more. Ever since Koro and Shetani the femme hadn't much enjoyed male company and so never really showed any interest in them. Her seemingly rough exterior didn't much help either.
Let him think what he wants, though, since you seem to enjoy his company. No need to disturb the peace... a voice rang inside of her head.
A small fraction of a grin began to form on the gray's maw as she offered a glance in his direction after he had 'kissed' her. He was so handsome... it seemed she didn't even mind that he touched her--normally she would be snapping and breaking the wolf's neck by now.
Finally her whole great head turned towards him, eyes dancing.
"Do you always do this to females, or is it a one-time thing?" she asked, partially truly curious and partially teasing him. Then, in another instant, the gray wolfess leaned towards him and nuzzled him under the chin.
The feeling was mutual, it seemed.

Catalyst waited what seemed to be eternity till he retrieved a gesture from his symbolic affection. He could see her mind working, pondering on every word he had just spoken, but he didn't much mind those other things, he wanted to know what she felt about this movement. That kiss. His eyes twinkled with delight as she came under his chin, and he half-missed what she had said just before this.
He direly wanted to say something witty, something smart-a**-like and throw off the whole mood, but he didn't. His mind was a bit clouded at the moment with the thoughts of the only thing that interested him right now, Kal. 'No.' He whispered, nearly into her ear, 'This is....different.'
Suddenly, he felt uncomfortable. He backed away slightly, his paws fumbling under his weight. He felt dizzy, sick, but it wasn't Kal that was causing these feelings to erupt; It was, him. He sunk slightly, his ears flicking back against his cranium. Though, he wasn't exactly sure why he suddenly felt i'll, he had a good idea of what it may be.
His old mate.

Just as the male's mind was, Kal's mind was clouded and nearly unthinking. Everything she was doing was her hearts desire speaking out and controlling her body. Frankly, though, she enjoyed it. Too long had it been since she was just able to relax and cuddle up with someone. For her, there was never any time for frolicking and dancing about with males. It was always a fight for survival for her.
But this... well, it just soothed her right down to the bone. Everything about this moment seemed perfect and serene. There was nothing that could break the mood....
Nothing, that was, until he backed away. Instantly her mind unclouded and her fur bristled slightly. What on earth was she doing?!
Kal narrowed her eyes at him for a moment, then changed her expression to look sullen and sad, forlorn. She really had thought that was what both of them wanted, but from Catalyst's reaction, a thought ran through her mind that gave her tons of doubt.
Suddenly she turned her back to him, still stitting though, and just stayed there. Her body was tense and rigid. The mood had definitely been broken, and at that moment the gray wolfess wasn't quite sure whether or not she wanted to do it again. If he was just going to back away every time, why give herself the heartache?
The male would have to do something exceptionally good to get another chance.

Catalyst tried, his best not to do it, but he couldn't fight it. His eyes glanced about him, panicky. His heart was in his throat and he couldn't swallow it. He arched his body slightly, and prepared himself to run off, he had ruined with seemed to be a wonderful moment, what was probably the best moment of his life, since...well that day.
What the hell is wrong with you, you two-faced b*****d. Howled his innards, as he clawed helplessly at the earth. He then began to swing his head left in right, looking for a way out. He took notice of Kalia, sitting with her back to him as if fuming. He whimpered slightly, his silver/gold gaze falling heavily onto the form of Kalia. He took a few steps back before shakily whispering towards the female; 'I-I'm so sorry, Kalia. Find it in you to forgive me.' He stood there for a moment, simply taking in the patterns of her back, something he hadn't taken much notice of, then he began to see her muscles tensing. He wanted to go near her, but she was on the edge, and he may send her off it. He was just about to take his leave, when a thought bubbled in his mind. 'Kalia,' he hastily called, approaching her quite quickly, before he was right in front of her, breathing heavily with excitement. 'Please please, stay here. I'll return in a moment.' He stood before her for another second, before moving back towards the direction in which he came and disappeared into the thicket. Though the idea he had in mind wasn't something to special, he hoped...
No prayed it would help the ridged feeling going on.

Gray ears flicked back towards him in acknowledgement to his words, but nothing came out of her mouth. She was never one to forgive easily, and since she felt like such a fool for falling for a male like she did, this was no exception. Her heart was cold, there was no doubt about it, but there was still something there that allowed her to soften somewhat.
Then, when he came around to face her, it seemed that he alarmed her a little for her fur stood on end and she flinched slightly. The flinch, though, wasn't in fear but rather in shock. She didn't expect him to approach her so quickly or even come that close to her while it was obvious that she was fuming. This earned Catalyst some points.
Kal blinked at him, then, when he asked her to stay there. Psh, yeah, like she had anywhere else to go really. Yet, not saying anything, she still felt mad and like she should just leave. Nonetheless the gray she-wolf rolled her eyes as he left then slowly sank to her belly.
What was he up to?

Catalyst sprung about the wood, his hopes lifting yet. He was planning on travling a long distance, for what he yearned for wasn't easily found. He leapt over shrubs instead of charging through them and passed easily between narrow tree passageways. He was padding along quite contently.
Then he met the bird. Well, much more then a bird, he was a crow. Large, black and frankly annoying. Nothing Catalyst hoped/wanted/needed to see at this moment, but the bird oddly caught the males attention, stopping his travels and causing him to peer up to the black figure. 'Ay, I say.' croaked the raven, fluttering his ridged wings and leaping a foot off the branch then landing wearily back upon it. 'Who'r you? I've yet to see a fine specimen in this woods yet! Did you come easternly?' The birds foreign tongue confused the lupin for a long while. All the male could hear was many a squawks and some clicking of the tongue. 'Pardon?'
The black bird fluttered a bit, startled obviously. For the wolf merely spoke in wolf-tongue, which this avian could not understand. 'What did you call me you mangy mammal?' the ravens wings began to flap upsettingly as his beak opened wider. Loud, obnoxious wails were slipping out from the birds throat, as it fluttered down to the ground. Catalyst winced with the noise, yet felt that the bird wasn't at the least being kind no longer. His lips curled into a sly grin, his tongue making a round about his upper lip.
With in an hour, the male had gathered what he sought out for, and had arrived accordingly to the she-wolf. His maw was cluttered with something, that stuck out from both ends, which pricked at the innards of his mouth. He made a short round about, towards the direction the female was facing. He was hidden by the thick foliage of greenery, so he could leap from his spot and surprise her with his gift of apology. Crouching slightly, he prepared himself for a jump, and sprung right out from the thicket, landing a few feet from the female. Within his tight grasp was a bouquet of fleurs, all ranging in different colors and designs and sizes. He moved towards her, his head held high and his chest puffed out with pride. He was pleased with his gift and showed this well. Dropping the arrangement with a brisk bow, the male nodded and spoke aloud to Kalia 'A bundle of wild flowers, freshly picked for you, malady, in extreme apology.' He smiled, tilting his head to the right slightly.
Tucked within the unraveled cluster of flowers was a black, large object. The male was happy to point out that in gathering her flowers, he ran into an unwelcoming fellow, and brought him as well, feathers and all.

For a few minutes after the male had departed, the gray wolf sat there in silence, still pondering what on earth he was up to. Never before had she felt this way about someone, nor had someone else feel the same way. It was odd, really, the way he had pulled away like that. Yet when he had left he looked truly beaten at her reaction. Now he was probably out trying to think of some way to make up for it. Hmm... seemed logical.
However, once an hour or so had passed, Kal grew anxious. Had she trusted him for no reason? Was he now out and off somewhere else, far away from her and her dangerous temper? This thought seemed even more logical than her first assumption, and it was one that frightened her greatly. She didn't know why, but the thought of him running away from her in terror just broke her heart in half.
Yet... that gesture, earlier. Catalyst himself had said that it wasn't something he just went around doing, as if it was something so casual as a hunt. It had been something he was probably driven to do by just about the same thing that had driven the female to nuzzle up against him. But why had he pulled away like that?!
Hmph. Too many thoughts. In order to give herself a rest, Kalia lay down on her belly, head on her paws, and shut her eyes for a little rest. If the male had really gone off and was planning to come back, there was no reason for her to just wander off because of one thought. She didn't know his exact intentions and so just decided to stick around just in case it was the better of the two.
After some time, the gray wolfess' eyes flittered open to let in the light. Hm, no sign of Catalyst.
Or perhaps she had thought something too soon, for a moment after that the male came bounding up and over the bushes of the forest. Just the sight of those flowers and the seemingly dead crow was enough to lift her spirits. A sudden smile appeared on her pretty face as she quickly rose to her paws and moved closer towards him.
"Catalyst... they're..." For a moment her pride took over and caused her to hold up this cold look. Why should he get a second chance after that?!
But a moment later the cold look was gone and she was happy and spirited again.
"They're beautiful." Afterwards her gaze flicked towards the crow, then back to him. "Handsome brute," she said, possibly talking about the crow but really meaning the compliment for him.
In another moment she moved to stand beside him, her shoulder touching his. He had definitely earned another chance. What other male had done this for her?

Catalyst smiled. He knew he wasn't out of the clear yet, but he felt he was on his way their. His muzzle wrinkled slightly as he bared his teeth in a gracious smile. 'I'm glad you like them...' his ears pricked with her last comment, and his grin turned into a soft chuckle.
'Such glorious flowers for only a beautiful lady.' he nodded, then cocked his head and chuckled one last time before taking a few steps back and sitting before her.
'How is this for an apology?' he noses the flowers before flopping onto his stomach and staring up towards Kalia.
