He was not angry, Trace reminded himself. He was beyond the point of getting angry over a measly part in a measly school show. At least Evie had made it, he consoled himself, and he was listed first among Stage Hands, which somehow gave him a sense of superiority (an unmerited one, of course). "Act well your part, there the honor lies," he said through his teeth as he stalked down the corridor to his dorm room, through the overwhelming smell of cat.

Trace was Angry. Angry about Cats. Angry that Sue of all people was on that cast list and not he. And knowing Sue, he wouldn't have checked yet.

He stopped and rapped loudly on Sue's door, steeling himself for an unpleasant conversation.

"Shiiii--!"

Sue had been jumpier than usual recently. He kept to himself as much as he could, with the blinds drawn and the door locked. His internet searches hadn't been going well - no reasonable explanations for what he'd seen the other day seemed to exist. The Internet was all in agreement: Cute little kittens weren't supposed to unhinge their jaws, or do any of those other things.

Two possibilities: Sue was insane (and Elke) as well. Or else, the Internet was WRONG.

He'd just been composing a lengthy post to explain to the Internet why it was wrong when the knock came at his door, pounding and harsh. Sue wasn't used to people knocking at his door, especially not at this hour of the day when most folks were too busy socializing. It was probably one of the teachers again, though, coming to make sure he wasn't hiding any cats in his room. Which he wasn't, today.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," Sue grouched, flipping closed his notebook and pushing back his chair. He fumbled with the door's lock, then opened it up --

Not a teacher? He blinked. Trace?! He blinked again, more rapidly.

"... Uh." He greeted the other, very politely.

Trace stared blankly at his despised neighbor, suddenly blank on what he was supposed to be telling him. He was just so overcome with hatred and the desire to punch Sue in the face and beat his racist a**. But then he remembered why he was here and what he needed to say, and it did not involve anything angry. At least not yet.

"Congratulations, Mr. Understudy Fairy God Cat," he sneered. "Have a good time, Meow-mix."

There. Message delivered. Trace turned and strode the six paces down the hall to his room, unlocked his door, and went inside.

Sometimes, things were meant to end the way they began. And as Trace marched off, and Sue stood there in stunned confusing, the meaning of the words barely coming to seep through his uncertainty, he realized there was just one thing he could say to what had just been revealed.

"........... SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIII--"

And he was off, dashing away, to find the casting list and find out whether Trace was playing a joke on him, or if the casting director were out of her ******** mind.

Sadly, he was soon to learn, it was the latter.
