Who: Varun and Lucia
Where: Aekea
When: mid-morning
Weather: cool and cloudy, but with no chance of rain

Lucia had just finished her clothing to cover everything up. A pretty black frilly skirt with a lace trim, made to transform her top into a baby-doll top, and two and sleeves, similar to Pasha’s but black and laced with a purple ribbon above her elbows, flowing down and belled open slightly, ending with a lacy trim just at the tips of her fingers. She made all three pieces, covering up things she didn’t like: her spotlight-like white rune and the black splint on her arm. They were hidden and she looked pretty; the frei was happy.

Yuurei had hired some help to put away the Halloween decorations and the yard was back to its normal self. The woman had told her to stay in the house, but Lucia didn’t care. What did that stupid b***h know? The kitten left a note, Don’t call the cops, but I went out. and left it on her bed. There.

The kitten floated over to the door to the balcony and opened it. Looking down, she forced herself not to think about falling over it or even that she was going to be so high. Wrapping her arms around her, her left one laying awkwardly with the stabilized wrist, Lucia closed her eyes. Rivener was lifting her up. The frei floated in the air and moved forward. Now the sigel was placing her down. She floated down, down, until her belt buckle clicked against the stone walkway. There we go! No more fear of heights. Unless she thought about it. The kitten was going to go on an adventure.

She floated to the nearest bus stop and hopped on the first bus that came by. Then she traveled, twenty minutes and got off. Looking around, Lucia realized that she didn’t recognize where she was. The kitten had been trying to go to Rivener’s house and somehow wound up…here. The tall smokestacks from the manufacturing buildings were pouring out smoke, some white, some grey, that seemed to mix into the clouds and dissipate. The kitten frowned. She would have to wait. Hopefully the next bus would be the right one.

There was no more salt.

Varun growled softly, hands deep in the bathtub. Around the half-full tub raged a whirlpool (the first time the Raevan had tried, the tub had been full and water had gotten everywhere; when Kinsey got home, she made him mop it up), but it wasn't satisfying. The water as cold as tap got. He'd tried adding a tray of ice cubes before, but they simply crashed into his hands at high velocity. It hurt, but the Leviathan wasn't willing to lessen the integrity of his creations. What good were whirlpools if they were wicked?

His wings twitched and the Raevan stirred listlessly, dragging his hands out of the water. It did nothing to soothe the pain that flared up as soon as they hit the air. Whining softly, he shook like a dog. It took three minutes to work up the will power to tie his hair up in a messy bun, but he did. He was going out. He couldn't be in the walls anymore, with the warm water with no salt. He just couldn't. He wouldn't. Without further thought, Varun floated down the hall and let himself out of the apartment, and down to the street he went.

There was a bus waiting on the corner. Sometimes Kinsey took him on the bus. It brought them to the pool in the summer time, if he remembered correctly. Deciding the pool would make an excellent destination, he floated on board, ignoring the looks he got. Any man within ten feet got a snarl and a hiss. Varun found himself alone in the entire back of the bus, watching people and buildings whir by until the bus driver insisted he get off. He was scaring the patrons.

Hissing, Varun slid down the stairs. This was wrong. The Leviathan looked around, brows furrowing. There were giant buildings, loud noises, this smog... He coughed and floated forward. Find another bus and get to the pool. This was the wrong bus. He should try another. Floating down the sidewalk, the irritated Raevan fold his arms over his chest, snarling at every man who happened. Headfins flaring out sideways, the redhead suddenly caught sight of someone slightly familiar.

"...Lucia?"

He remembered her from not so long ago...

Lucia didn’t like this situation. She didn’t know where she was and everyone kept gawking. For the first time in a while, the kitten felt really insecure. Where was she? There were tons of different busses, which one was the right one. The busy area was full of people and she kept getting pushed around. She needed a way out.

The kitten’s ears twitched as she heard her name. Who would know her here? Turning towards the voice slowly, Lucia’s eyes widened when she saw it was the raevan who had fought with Rivener during her party. What was his name? It started with a V. Vroom? Verin? s**t. She didn’t remember. She would have to fake it. ”Heeeeyy! What’s up? What are you doing out here?” Lucia smiled politely at the red-haired raevan. Wait – maybe he knew where she was. ”Umm—do you know where we are?”

Too much talking, Varun decided with a huff, fins flattening to the side as he approached the feline Raevan. Too many questions. Did she really need all the answers? The Leviathan sorely doubted it. Flicking his wings to the side, he tipped his head and began to process, sorting each question out with an appropriate answer. "The sky is up," he started balefully, slowly folding his arms over his chest, "I am out here looking for something." He hesitated. "I think. This area?" He shrugged and took his head. "Bad bus. Lucia is not knowing where this is, then?" he sighed, regretting approaching her.

Well, nevertheless. A girl was a girl, and he should treat her nicely, because that's just what you did for girls. Tipping his head to the side, he glanced around at all the smog and dirty buildings and wrinkled his nose, snorting softly. No, this urban disaster was definitely what he had been searching for.

"And Lucia? Here for...?"

Lucia scowled at the frei's response to her hello. Her ears went back defensively and her eyes narrowed slightly. No s**t the sky was up. She was trying to be friendly and got a rude response. Like those dumb 7 year-old humans. Yeah...there was no point in knowing this one's name. Shaking her head defiantly, Lucia's hair shook into place.

Her eyes shot sideways at him when he had the nerve to ask her where they were. The cat's brows furrowed. "Well of course, if I'm asking you, how am I supposed to know where I am." This was one of the first freis she met that she didn't like much... No wonder Rivener attacked him. Taking a breath, Lucia was determined to be in a good mood when she eventually found Rivener's house.

Maybe he'll just go. Go and leave me alone and I'll find my way back alone. The kitten's mind was moving constantly. Let me be alone and I will be happy. I don't want your attention. Lucia's body was still sore and she couldn't seem to get comfortable. She kept moving her shoulder and tossing her hair, which seemed to be getting more and more out of place the more annoyed she was getting.

"I am trying to visit a friend. But I obviously don't remember how to get there." Her tone was sharp and uninviting. Her response was just as vague as his. Two could play that game. She shook her head again. Just. Go.

This was not going well. It didn't particularly need to go well, actually, but the Leviathan was fairly certain that he should help her. Varun wasn't sure why, she wasn't particularly nice (she was quite pretty, though), but it wasn't like the seasonal Frei to argue with any primal instincts, so here wasn't really a good place to start. Flicking a bright yellow fin to the side, he huffed quietly and eyed Lucia for a good, long while before deciding he could not communicate with just exasperated looks.

"So Lucia had bad bus, as well," he clarified, nodding to the sign with the bus on it. "Why wait for it? The bad bus will not be bringing you to wherever you are going, only where you started from." He raised an eyebrow and tipped his head. "So there must be another one. Somewhere."

Though the frei's ears were twitching at being watched, Lucia did her best to ignore him. She tried to be nice and welcoming. But whatever. When he spoke to her, her head twisted to him, eyes glaring. But as he spoke her eyes softened somewhat. Oh, so he was going to be helpful now? There was still the defensiveness in her eyes, but something else too. Maybe they were in the same situation.

Lucia nodded at her Leviathan companion. His rationale made sense. Sort of. Well, try to be nice...again. "Where were you trying to go? Maybe we can figure out how to get there. This whole bus system is too confusing." Lucia smiled to herself and decided to share a secret. Depending on how he reacted to this, she would either want to pulvarize him or travel with him, or maybe even nuzzle. She took a breath.

"Sometimes I fall asleep on those busses and then I never know where I am!"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 9:45 am

"Fall asleep?" The Leviathan blinked, green eyes wide as he digested the information. His eyebrows hiked up further and the look he was giving the kitten could be interpretative as impressed, if not genuinely surprised. "They are so loud and so bumpy. I do not ride them if I do not half to. Far too many humans," Varun admitting, shrugging. The crowds made him uncomfortable, especially the other males, and he did not like how very unwieldy and uncomfortable they were.

"I only take them for long, long trips, too far to go by...floating." Go by foot was pretty stupid when one did not have feet. "I was...looking for the pool. Is there a pool near your friend's house?" The words were coming more and more easily, flowing from Varun's mouth as though he'd been forming full sentences all his life. He glanced around. "Do the buses have maps?"

Lucia nodded. "That's why I sleep. They suck. I like it when Yuu drives me better -- you met her at the party I think." She paused, staring at Varun, almost inspecting him. Her eyes looked at his face and a smile broke across her lips. "I don't know if there is a pool by his house. But I don't know if there are maps. But we can't be too far from home. I don't think I was on the bus that long." Lucia paused to consider it.

Smiling she turned her purple eyes to Varun's. "There's a beach by my house. If you want we can go there. Or we can go to my friend's house and see if there is a pool near by?" As she was talking the closest bus started up, letting out a puff of black diesel exhaust and the kitten began coughing. Staring sideways at the bus the kitten thought for a second. "Why don't we try to find our own way. If nothing else," she said, looking in her hand bag, "Oh shiiiiit." She began digging through it frantically and then sighed. "I forgot my cell. . ."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 23, 2009 12:19 pm

The aquatic Frei was not exactly sure what a cell was, though he seemed to recall his Kinsey owning one of those. Quickly dismissing it as one of those 'girl things' his Kinsey sometimes refused to discuss, the redhead tipped his head and watched Lucia speculatively, rolling her suggestions over in his stormy mind. Flicking his wings as another cloud of smoke billowed there way, he wrinkled his nose and skirted sideways. "Yes," he finally agreed, nodding, "I think we should leave this place. I like beaches," he added, not forgetting her earlier offer.

Floating a few more feet down the dingy sidewalk, he glanced over his shoulder at the attractive female (it was odd how a turn in conversation could make someone's beauty shine through, but Varun wasn't really in a speculation kind of mood). His attention snagged for the briefest of moments, thoughts clouded with all things female (and his, a small voice in the back of his head hissed). Blinking, the seasonal Raevan tossed his head and nodded forward.

"We go on our own, I think. We do not need stupid buses to tell us where to go, anyways," he decided, having full faith in the navigation skills. "Do we go to your friends or back to the beach?" Ever the gentleman, Varun wasn't about to make the decision for Lucia, even if he had his own preferences. He was supposed to be watching out for her, after all, even if she never asked.

Lucia glanced sideways at her companion. He was being nice to her. She slipped her right hand in the crook of his left elbow and smiled. "We can go wherever you want!" Lucia began to float forward, going the opposite way of the way the bus was facing. That seemed logical. The were going deeper into the city. The alleys off of the main road they travelled along were long and narrow and usually one-way.

Lucia frowned, not remembering if they went through the city on the bus or not, but the kitten figured they would get out of this area sooner or later. "We should be getting out of here soon. . ." The were floating past a bar with over a dozen motorcycles parked side-by-side. Lucia trailed off as a group of rough looking biker dudes, sitting on their bikes, began laughing and pointing at the pair of frei. She rolled her eyes at it and set her jaw desperate to get out of this stupid city.

Floating further away, Lucia stopped floating when she noted a pair of them following the raevans. Then they began cat calling. The cat took a breath and turned around to face them.

Wherever he wanted? That was quite generous. Allowing the corners of his lips to twitch upward, instincts told him to repay the fair lady as she was doing good to him. "We will go to see your friend," he decided, without much hesitation. "When you find your friend, I will find the pool." The words flowed freely from him, sentences no longer stilted and stuttered.

Satisfied with his plan, he rumbled deep in his chest when the kitten looped their arms together. He'd never have initiated it in a million years, but he certainly appreciated the physical contact. Fins folded against his body complacently, he was content to float lazily through the road until they found a way out when Lucia suddenly tensed. Before the seasonal Frei had a chance to inquire, the kitten had floated a few feet away, looking like she was getting ready for something. Not a moment later, Varun heard the cat calls.

The scales on his bright yellow wings turned inky black and a terrifying snarl curled over his smile, green eyes flashing dangerously as he quickly hovered forward, putting himself between Lucia and the pack of males. Holding his red head high, he continued his approach, hissing like a snake until he was right in front of one of the burly men. He did not hesitate, pale arms darting forward as he grabbed the man around the neck. Suffocation. Effective, the small voice hissed again.

Shaking the small voice away for a second time, Varun narrowed his eyes and snapped his jaw.

"Do not speak to her that way. She is a lady." He gave the man a shake and squeezed harder. "Are we clear?"

Lucia's breath caught in her throat. This raevan was being aggressive...again. But this time it was to help her and not to ruin her party. Luica smiled a little as the man struggled against the frei's hold. Served him right. Ordinarily Lucia would have smirked at the cat-call, and maybe flipped the men off, but she didn't care today. Feminine wiles or no, Varun was defending her.

She floated over to the raevan, and smirked at the man's blue face. "Oh just let it go." Stupid humans. Who needed them except to do your bidding? She formed her mouth into a sultry smile and placed her hand on Varun's cheek to draw his attention onto her. "Lets just go..." Her hand trailed down to Varun's exposed chest below his collar bone. Her eyes were sparking as she glanced at the struggling man.

She realized, as they passed the bar, that they were lost. She knew they hadn't passed that biker bar on the bus. Maybe this human could be useful afterall. "Var," she said with a smile and a glance back at him. "Maybe this guy knows the way back towards Barton? I know of a pool there..."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:18 am

Varun would never have killed the man (or maybe, just maybe, he might have), but Lucia certainly saved the unruly biker from any further damage. His fins quivered as the kitten trailed a finger from jaw to neck to shoulder. Licking his lips, he nodded brusquely and dropped the human, watching only the other Raevan as the man rolled around on the ground. He nodded and trailed after the older Frei.

The leviathan opened his mouth to protest the nickname, but decided that it sounded good when Lucia said it. (Which was a strange phenomena in and of itself, really, but this wasn't the time nor the place to investigate it.) He raised his eyebrows and shrugged. "He is a stupid man," Varun felt obligated to point out. "He insults ladies. But I will ask. For you."

Green eyes shimmering, he folded his wings behind his back neatly and hovered over to the man still recovering from the discussion they'd had only moments before. "You," he grunted, hovering close to the ground to catch the man's eye, "will tell my friend how to get to Barton. She wants to go to Barton."

A moment later, he straightened and gave the man a condescending pat on the head. Drifting back to Lucia, he offered his arm as though to escort her to their destination. "He says blue line is for Barton. Blue line is down the street and around the first corner. Should be here soon, he says."

Lucia's eyes shone in the light and she smiled and titled her head as Varun did her bidding and asked the man how to get to Barton. Men - humans and raevans - were so easy to manipulate. All it took was a flip of the hair here, a smile there, some skin-to-skin contact -- even if it was her own skin -- and when she said jump, they asked how high.

As Varun floated back over and lifted his arm up, she slid her narrow body in, his arm looping around her ribs rather than her arm. Turning her head she playfully and gently bit him on the shoulder. "Blue line, huh?" she said with a silly smile. "Sounds like another bus. Think you can handle it?" The playful challenge hung in the air.

Lucia changed her mind. She didn't care about going to Rivener's, she wanted to get to a graveyard. Ever since she had shown up in the crude cemetery behind the scorpion's house, Lucia had been visiting graveyards to eat compulsively. Coming so close to starving to death made her afraid of the slightest tinge of hunger. She visited them multiple times daily. Much more than her every few days from before.

There would be one in Barton, of course. There was no need for Var-whats-his-name to know her change of plans. He wasn't planning on joining her anyway.

As they approached the bus, the kitten looked at Varun and smirked. "So will you get on or no?"
