"Don't, like, embarrass me." Oliver warned Cissy, who just laughed at him. She winked and tweaked his little nose.
"Awww, da buddy~" She teased, letting Oliver go once he scowled and permitted the boy to head in front of her.
Oliver was nervous. It wasn't like he'd seen many people that were like him before. Like, he never had. And there was going to be a party, and he probably wouldn't have fun.
But he might, and he might make some friends. Or at least meet new people!

Orpheus shuffled his foot on the ground, looking between the entrance of the festivities, Kaoru, and something over his shoulder off in the distance. Kaoru had just filled him in on her plan, and he was hoping Qadir had even managed to make it to the flower woman's place without passing out or some other terrible event. Frown on his face he turned resolutely back to the entrance and held out his arm for Kaoru. At least he didn't feel so awkward as the last event, where he'd started off considerably smaller than the girl at his side now.
"Wonder if Stork will be here today," he muttered absently, half to himself and half to Kaoru. The cirtus teen had been on his mind ever since the weird woman had called at his home. Granted, he hadn't wanted to scare Kaoru and thus hadn't mentioned it to her, but he'd certainly be filling her in if there was anything suspicious at the festivities. Orpheus' dark eyes were unusually keen to look at everything close enough to be observed, clearly a bit distracted with some things in his own mind.

"I hope that's an endearing nickname, Orpheus," the feminine Scent at his side softly chided the Black Lily.
Kaoru had dressed in something other than white, for a change. To be more precise, it was a crushed-velvet pomegranate-red gown with full sleeves that hooked over her middle finger, the neck of which rested just off her branched shoulders with the hem ribboned in elaborate embroidery; an early Christmas gift from her grandparents. Her wine-chestnut hair was allowed to remain down, the heavy length curled over her chest and down her back. She'd even adorned her ear with a red velvet rose, the likes of which didn't bloom this time of year - her own little touch and secret.
Taking the offered arm, she tilted her head and gave her dapper friend a fond smile. "Or if it isn't endearing, I do hope you didn't decide to attend just to make someone's life miserable. Surely you've plenty to allow to bask in your presence." The last part was said with a light, teasing tone of voice, her fingers lacing together over the male's forearm. "I'm simply hoping to lend some support to Olivia and Ment, who, may I remind you, is not my boyfriend," she finished in a lackadaisical manner, clearly enjoying the company.

"Of course it's endearing," the boy said with a bit of a sniff and a wrinkle of his nose. "Is it not endearing to be called what you look like?" Plus, it had so graciously come from him, why wouldn't the citrus girl be pleased with such a gift from him? It wasn't so very often that Orpheus even bothered to remember the names of the people around him after all.
Orpheus shot a side-ways glance at Kaoru's childing words, screwing up his lips in a funny looking pout. He almost opened them to confess that he was concerned about the girl and how dare Kaoru think other wise, but he'd caught his tongue just in time and gave a grumpy "hmph" noise instead.
"Denial is the first step," Orpheus replied acidly, spotting Ment off in the distance with Olivia. The questions the dark woman had asked plagued his mind once more in a sudden flash and just as quickly he was pulling Karoru into the further corner, whatever direction he could to keep her away from the two. "Support them all you wish, but do so from the heart and not by physical means. Stay away from those two tonight." The vampire was deadly serious, staring up at her with narrowed eyes that were unwilling to let her go until she promised him that.

Crimson eyes rolled with good humor beneath her sharply raised brows, giving Orpheus a half-smile. She was certain that he was thinking of how they should have been grateful he thought of them at all, but she did adore him for his holier-than-thou mentality. It was part of his charm, as fatal attraction as it might have been.
Kaoru laughed at the mention of denial, following his eyes to spot the two in question. She had just about raised a hand in greeting when she was suddenly whisked off to the side and out of sight, giving the vampire a rather reproachful look. The Scent listened to his words, her cupid-bow lips in a light frown; what was this all about now? "While I appreciate your possession," she replied crisply, "he is still my friend. You mean to say you don't even want me to say hello to them?"
Within those disbelieving eyes, a stirring of discontent brewed, like a storm in the horizon. She straightened, branch-laden shoulders pushed back as she lifted her chin, looking every part the Goddess her Scent was tied to, the very essence of which was thick around her. "Unless you have a stellar reason for your bold demand of abandoning my friends, Orpheus, we will agree to disagree on the worth of what my friends mean to me." And if that meant displeasing the Black Lily, then he would have to deal with the consequences. They were her friends, and for all she respected him, she would not yield.

Orpheus' own lips curled back in the slightest, a snarl if there ever was and glinting those little fangs in the light. The boy was almost visibly bristling as those dark eyes narrowed just a bit more. It was not so much the disobedience than the general lack of knowing he was putting her best interest at hand. Granted, how was she to recognize it when he hardly displayed such...gentle actions. "When did I ever make claim about possession?
The boy turned and glared darkly at the couple before turning back to Kaoru, his eyes and face softening for just a moment, a sort of pleading puppy dog face that the remaining child in him pushed forward, before that irritable and all together displeased look hurtled back onto his features. Was she to misunderstand exactly what he was saying to her?
"My concern is tonight. I have not asked, or for that matter, demanded that give up your friendship to anyone, but merely asked to keep your distance for the span of this party." It mattered not if she was attempting to agree to disagree, he was not, and he would do quite literally everything in his power to keep her from lallygagging like a lame duck in shark's waters. He didn't wish to disclose his own fears to her however, being the slightest bit gentlemanly, he wished only to save possible tarnish of her view on those friends.

"Mommy mommy come on hurry I want to get there early!" Tugging on her mom's hand Remi ran to the shop. It was her favorite time of the year, Christmas! People didn't ask why she smelled the way she did around this time and she felt like a normal child which was nice. "I see people! Think Celyn will be here?"
Letting Remi drag her to the party Lizzy wore a huge grin on her face. Christmas parties were great especially since Remi would be surrounded by her own kind. As they neared the shop she could see a few people standing around talking and having a good time. "I bet he will be Remi. You'll have to introduce me to him and his father when we see him. Maybe we can even invite him over for a play-date later in the month, how does that sound?" Secretly she prayed nothing bad would happen this time.

"When you didn't give Ment permission to supposedly date me." Kaoru couldn't be mad, but she could certainly feel justified in her disdain for his behavior. What had gotten into him, all of a sudden? It wasn't like him to be all huffy over her - it wasn't like him to care enough.
The pomegranate teen frowned, casting her gaze briefly to the child Scent that was excitedly talking to her Guardian before slipping closer to Orpheus, her grip on his arm firm and pointed. "To ask something is to pose a question," she very nearly growled, her usually low tone taking on the first thread of thunder, "and that aside, how would you feel if someone told me to stay away from you for the duration of a party that you yourself was hosting? Orpheus, you'd make them wish they were never born. Don't ask me to do to others what you'd not have done unto yourself."
The phrase was a bit backwards, but relating common-principle things to the Black Lily was near impossible when he sat so high upon his throne above them all. She was beginning to think that even the Spiced Apple boy at least had a reason for his ways, even if it was simply because he was a God-King. "If you'll excuse me, I will at least say hello to them. They're too busy to dally long, being hosts, and I wont be rude for their invitation."

The girl had practically hit it on the nose. It wasn't like him to care enough to be giving her even this much of a warning, and yet she was looking the gift horse in the mouth just like any other stubborn woman would. It was extremely frustrating attempting to get her to listen to him without saying a lot. Would it be worth it if she was more grateful later?
"If they had good reason to tell you to avoid me then I would not be so callus as to disregard their good sense!" Orpheus might have been mad at her, but he'd have understood. At least, he was willing to convince himself that he'd have understood in this sort of situation, and Ment was more than kindhearted enough to forgive Kaoru for her friend's eccentricities, wasn't he?
If she tried to turn from him to be so insistent on greeting Olivia and Ment he would reach for her arm, gripping it tight enough to pinch the flesh though he would certainly not have meant to. He could not let her go over to them. "I am begging you," Orpheus growled, looking both defeated and furious. It had taken everything out of him to choose a verb unrelated to ordering, but he was desperate to get his point across.
She may think he was on his throne, but Orpheus felt like he was grovelling in the dirt.

Kaoru's anger wasn't a heated, molten thing; it was the crisp chilly wind that rattled dead boughs, the frigid air that sucked the life out of everything around it. Her crimson eyes darkened, one hand on her hip while Orpheus held her rather painfully, although she wouldn't tell him as much. The point was his attitude, and she'd not waver from it.
"If there was a good reason, certainly, but you've failed to provide any, let alone a good one!" the feminine Scent countered in a low hiss, still not wanting to draw attention to their little spat. Kaoru didn't much care if people saw them fighting, but the topic was theirs alone. She was about ready to unleash another tart remark when he said the last part, which promptly silenced any protest that may have vied to pass her lips. That cold wind of anger died down, and indeed, Kaoru looked a little wind-blown and breathless. Where there was defiance, now stillness resided. Orpheus was not acting himself, and the statement was enough to move mountains, coming from him. It moved her well enough.
Several moments of silence passed before the curled locks dipped in a nod. "Very well," her voice was wary, "but should they come to me, I cannot run, Orpheus." Her pride and sense of politeness would only let her get so far without not attending all together. Kaoru pointedly stared at the Black Lily, a look that suggested their discussion was not over yet, even if he'd won for the moment.

Orpheus pushed her hand away at her total lack of appreciation, but he'd more or less gotten what he wanted. "I do not have to reveal my reasons for them to be good ones," he replied, his own anger like bubbling acid, leaving him with a terrible taste in his mouth. When had he ever lead her wrong. Her lack of belief in him made him angrier than her inability to do what he asked of her. The boy flexed his hands into his palms, digging the nails into the soft flesh as a means to reel in his hurt.
"I will tell you after the event," he said sullenly, trailing off with something like 'if we survive' floating past his lips in a whisper. Orpheus looked like someone had attempted to rip out his soul, and he felt as exhausted. It was not so easy for him to play nice, and if this was the reaction he was going to get every time it was clearly not something he was going to make a habit of.
Lips pursed as if he had more to say, some other nasty retort, but he gripped his hands further into his palms until they broke the skin, and that seemed to manage him to hold off whatever dark think he would have said. What ever happened, he would not let Ment and Olivia get close to Kaoru. The woman's reaction to his little warning was not softening him into warning other people.
Granted, perhaps there would be no danger, and he'd be left foolish.

She was not happy with him. Just as quickly as he'd soothed her ire, so too did he spark it again, although it was little more than a ghost of the previous cold. "Then keep it to yourself. I don't care," she replied in a perfectly calm and breezy manner, "to hear them if it's such a burden to share." Kaoru could see the anger in his eyes, but she didn't understand it, nor could she have imagined its depths. It didn't mean she forgave him anymore for it. He was treating her like an insipid child, and while that was par for the course with the arrogant vampire, it was not settling well with her. It was as if he knew something bad was going to happen but refused to say anything beyond his cryptic plea.
The Scent turned to go and immediately found herself held onto tightly again, and this time, her ire became blistering. She stepped so close to him that it was near indecent in the proximity, arching her slender neck forward so that their noses nearly touched. "May I get a drink? Or do you fear I may perish en route?" came the thunderous, sarcastic whisper. Were it anyone else in the world, Kaoru would have slapped them, but it was Orpheus and she'd not raise a hand to him. Not yet, but her mind could be changed in the next five seconds if he wasn't careful. Kaoru had never been so riled, but it was easy to blame it on the coming of Winter for the pomegranate-based teen.
How had they gone from playful banter to this terrible condition? She briefly entertained the idea of going home, and might have done just that, if not for the knowledge of the company her mother was currently keeping. Instead, she stared daggers at her 'friend,' awaiting either an intelligent answer or the means to get something to quench her parched throat.

The boy opened and shut his mouth a few times as if trying to find his words before he dropped her hand once more, the blood from his palm left upon her fingers he'd so hastily snatched. Did she not understand that it was also about keeping her close to him? If something happened with the others, would it not break out across the room like a rippling tide? If she were not close to him then how was he to protect her? Too true was it that Orpheus was older than Kaoru. Perhaps she'd be graced with growing first, but he'd been in existence longer. Despite this fact, he was still all but a child in his heart, mature enough to want to keep precious the things around him but an inability to do so tactfully.
With little other option, Orpheus just frowned sulkily at her, looking between her and the drink table. "Would it not be best for me to get you a drink? I recall it to be the polite thing to do." He felt like alerting her to possible danger was also the polite thing to do, and that seemed to have gone south in a rather interesting way.

Her critical gaze flitted between his fish-like mouth motions and his petulant stare. As her hand was released, she left it waft to her side, still fixing him with thankless eyes. She was not a mindless twit, despite what he may think, and she knew something was wrong by his antics. Kaoru didn't feel like playing his game to figure out what had his slacks twisted, not when she had been looking forward to seeing her friends and now was without that option. It was a very helpless feeling, to appease one's worries at the sacrifice of one's heart's desire.
"I'd be alone either way," she replied dryly, not yet noticing the blood as she crossed her arms over her ample chest, "so if you want to--" make yourself feel better "-then by all means. Just water," so you can see if someone has poisoned it. Her mind filled in the blanks neatly and allowed her to remain calm despite her dark demeanor, still feeling like the threat of a storm ready to strike at her unfortunate friend. It was only the knowledge that Orpheus was a friend that she didn't let those words pass her down-turned lips.
Kaoru stared for a few more heartbeats with stiff shoulders before she sighed, brushing a long strand of hair from her neck. "Once upon a time, I would have fell over myself for your attention," she told the Black Lily quietly. She didn't bother to elaborate; the statement was meant simply as it was said, to appease her brother/crush/date, to give him that little ego-boost to smooth over his hurt. "If you want to do so now, I suppose I've no right to stop you." And she left it at that.

Ment whirled around at the first sound of voices, his heart racing with excitement and nervousness. It had been the first big party Olivia and himself had thrown since the incident some months ago with Amryx's death, and while he did not want to be a downer the sense of impending doom and worry lingered in the back of his mind. After all, it was the best of times, and the worst of times...
Ment gathered as much courage as his black-jean mini skirt could bear and went to greet those who had just arrived deciding to hit up the children first, since they were always happy to see him. He made his way towards Remi and Lizzy with a smile across his face, "Welcome! We've got food and drink over here, and you can pick up candy on the other tables around."
----------
Moanna had noticed Kaoru and Orpheus off in the distance talking back and forth to each other in an unusually tense manner. She didn't think much of it at the time as the male Scent had been generally tense and partially intolerable to her when she had first met him, so she was not surprised he still wouldn't be so. There's always a dark side to the moon after all.
Whether or not Orpheus had decided to excuse himself to get Kaoru a drink, Moanna had intended to greet them so she unhinged herself from her little spot of her own and made her way over. She would be rude to otherwise. As soon as the two had stopped speaking, she decided to make her presence known, "Good day to you both."
----------
As for Olivia, well she was content for the moment making sure everything was in its place and double checking her numbers twice over. No need to make herself look like an a** now after all the work she had put into everything.
