Lunch at the leprosy table was pretty much exactly how it sounded. Meal times, as designated by the Barren Pines Faculty, were times where you were forced to sit with your house -- one of five forebodingly-named groups of kids you likely did not know, unless you were socially adept. Which Lucy was not. And so, at least for her, mealtimes (this lunch included) at the leprosy table was exactly how it sounded. Because sadly, Lucy didn't know anyone in Leprosy house. She didn't know much of anyone, if she really was honest with herself, although she refused to let it bother her much. Usually it wouldn't have bothered her at all, except for one thing.

There was one person she did know who happened to be in the same house as she was, although she sincerely wished she didn't.

Kirin.

There had been a fairly long-standing rivalry between the two of them, one which neither of them could drop, Lucy because Kirin had made her cry (and she hated that -- that b***h would pay) and Kirin because... well, actually, she wasn't quite sure. She was sure, however, that she loathed the other Leprosy House student with an intense passion not often seen from the usually-dispassionate cellist.

And as it happened, they were sitting right across from each other.

Clutching her sandwich tightly in her hands, the teal-haired girl sat hunched over the table, her eyes narrowed at the redhead across from her, chewing slowly, a cold dislike radiating from her person.

Kirin tried to avoid most other members of Leprosy House as though they truly were lepers. He didn't want to speak to them, or sit near them. Yet there were days like today when everyone came to lunch at once and Kirin was sadly forced to tolerate his housemates on all sides. The only upside to today's seating arrangement was that he was sitting opposite Lucy Mor - their rivalry was epic in nature.

He wasn't sure how it had started. Kirin was just being his usual self and suddenly the girl was bursting into tears. Lucy apparently held a grudge about that, because suddenly the girl was giving as good as she got from Kirin. Kirin wasn't about to be outdone by some little girl, so the insults had only gotten worse. Things had only descended from there - anything was cause for oneupmanship, from daggy clothes to bad hair days to bad skin... Suddenly Kirin was on his toes, his girly act better than ever thanks to the pressure coming from Lucy.

... It was almost fun. So Kirin kept it up.

Some days were more fun than others. Like today, sitting across from Lucy. Kirin was having a grand time stabbing his silverware into the pasta of the day. Every time it made a particularly loud thunk, Kirin made sure to meet Lucy's eyes, a devilish smirk in place.

Honestly, no one would blame Lucy if she developed paranoia...

The blue-haired girl continued to glare coldly at the other, eating her sandwich and ignoring the sound of silverware against the plate, although that smirk only making her further uneasy. If Lucy hadn't harbored an extreme dislike for the 'girl,' she would have been really, really creeped out by that look. In fact, she was, to an extent. Who did that? Well, obviously Kirin did. Then again, who also didn't apologize after making someone cry?

It was obvious to any onlooker that neither of the two liked the other very much. It was like a standoff. Soon the insults would start, in proper catty-female fashion, each trying to offend the other more than they themselves were offended. This game usually ended with Lucy in angry tears, which really didn't feel productive to her in the least, and yet every time she saw her she couldn't help but make some snide comment, as if to try to regain some dignity. She wasn't even sure if any of her insults worked on the redhead -- she seemed like a pretty huge, insensitive b***h anyway.

"Your hair looks pretty good today," She started, knowing the vicious cycle she was starting, tone flippant, "You must have gotten pretty good at fixing it, after all of your... escapades."

So, it had begun. Kirin kept an impassive face, but immediately began worrying just what escapade Lucy was referring to. Did she mean that fiasco with the egg sandwich some boy had smooshed into her? Or something before that? No, no, Kirin mustn't let himself get distracted. Clearly the point was that Kirin's hair was amazing and made poor Lucy jealous.

"Ah, thank you," he gave a small, icy smile. "I have been taking special care of it, since it keeps receiving compliments from the boys." Another stabbing of pasta, chewed and swallowed as though they were two girlfriends discussing girly things. "I just love what you've done with your makeup today. Such interesting shades... And is that tearproof mascara I see?"
