History: Like a number of others before her, Nevele is the product of a mating flight between a Greenrider and a Smithcrafter's daughter. Her mother, as a sort of personal joke, gave her a name poking fun at the number of times she had been approached during mating flights. From her earliest days, she was a quiet, thoughtful child: easily lost in tales about Dragonriders and eager to help. She was quickly matched with Maro, a no-nonsense older woman who worked in the kitchens. Nevele grew attached to her very easily and in turn, the woman raised her to be hard-working and kind while imparting the tales of riders she had seen during her life. It was through these tales that the girl first fell in love with Dragonriders and their Dragons, with their bravery, and what they stood for.. and someday wished that she could be among them. As she grew older, she was welcomed into the kitchens in the meantime to help slice vegetables and run odd jobs for the staff, and through them and her Fosterer, she learned many things.

When not helping Maro, the child often cavorted with a group of other Weyrbrats while growing up, but she never quite belonged to their strong-willed, rambunctious group. The kids would tease her or leave her behind, laughing at her ambition to be a Dragonrider. For the sake of avoiding loneliness, she would make excuses to herself for their behaviors - that they weren't being serious. Instead, she drowned her worries in stories and daydreams in her free time. Her being a Dragonrider wasn't a silly goal; she was just as capable of it as others, right? She felt dissatisfied, but contented herself with silence.

Then came the incidents where things began to disappear from the kitchens. Maro had her suspicions, having seen the troublemaking group hanging around the kitchens quite often as of late, hearing their laughter from around the corner, and decided that the time to encourage her ward to speak up was fast approaching. It became a bigger problem when the tools reappeared close to Nevele's work station, and she was reprimanded for her irresponsibility. The words sunk in and Nevele took them silently, replying with little more than an "I understand" or an "I apologize". The hurt she was feeling was finally bubbling over and she could no longer stay silent towards these "friends" of hers. Enough was enouch.

After her reprimand and list of additional chores were given, Maro pulled her aside to give her a "gentle" nudge down the right path. "You need to put a stop to this nonsense, girl, immediately. Confront them, or I will." Taking a day to screw up her courage, she met them to confront the issue. At first, she tried to be polite about it, but when they had said it was a joke, her temper flared and her voice rose sharply. The outburst felt quite liberating as she told them she was tired of trying to cover for those who treated her in this manner, and when an argument was presented, she shakily told them that she would take no more, and that they were welcome to rot in a ditch for the remainder of their turns, before turning away and never looking back.

Right then and there, while riding high on the heels of her confidence, she cemented her decision in becoming a Dragonrider. The tales of Dragonriders coming from the bottom to be looked upon with such high regard, as well as the strength of her Fosterer, encouraged her: if they could be be confident in their goals, then surely hers was within her reach! There was more to her than what others perceived, and Nevele was ready to show that she could be truly brave and give encouragement to those who were like her.

Appearance: Nevele's appearance isn't one that stands out by any means. On the contrary she is very ordinary-looking, neither particularly beautiful nor unattractive. Her face is rounded and friendly-seeming enough, with dark olive eyes that are set close together on her face. They have an owlish look to them, always wide as though they're taking in too much at once. Her hair is a ruddy russet brown that hangs to just past her chin and is impossibly curly. No matter how she deals with it, it ends up falling in her face in a frizzy mess.

Her build is a little over average (with larger hips than bust), filling out her moderately tall frame of 5'7" without exceeding health standards. She knows how to carry her weight well though, and has a fair share of strength and stamina (moreso in her legs than in upper body). How fast she can sprint often surprises others.

Clothing is more often than not loose and comfortable. For the sake of functionality, she wears pants underneath any long tunics or short dresses. To her, long dresses or skirts are too inconvenient to wear and work in on a regular basis. She is not completely against girlish behavior though; when a special event comes up, she does rather well in indulging in her feminine side.

Personality:
Nevele's personality is at odds with her life experience: between the person that she cannot help being, and the one that she feels she should be. Her ability to empathize is strong, and she will often get involved emotionally with others who seek her help. Regardless of her position in the issue, she tries to help and support the best that she can without getting caught in the middle. However odds are that she does end up in such a position, and she chastises herself for getting in too deep. She is a bleeding heart, hating to see things in pain and will do whatever is in her power to stop it, and has a bad habit of believing sob stories a little too easily. As such, she has suffered for it from those who would play her false.

Given her empathetic nature, she is in-tune with her environment. The girl is easily encouraged by those who are confident and happy, going about her tasks with such people with vigor. When the mood is bleaker or she is among those who are similar to her, she does her best to move things along, alleviate the mood, and will assume somewhat a leader role herself if need be. Nevele angers very rarely, only having done so a few times in her life, and is more apt to jump to sorrow rather than rage.

Belying her kind nature is a desire to prove herself. Given the fact that she was often the follower among others, she wants to prove her mettle as a member of Telgar and finally have others look up to her and see what good she can do. She seeks approval with great tenacity. This may be a way to surpass her insecurity about her abilities.

In most conversations, she is prone to being quiet and listening at first. This gives the first impression to some that she is timid, and in a way she is. It is moreso that Nevele is a very mellow person who hates making waves, and will not add in her thoughts until she has a good enough grip on the person's temperament. She has a clever mind and a sharp memory for facts and conversations, and can point things out that some others might not see. Her opinions, when she does voice them, can seem a little outlandish or out of the blue. She's easily excitable about things she's passionate about, and if one has earned her trust enough, she will continually talk, although her sudden passion may make her lose her train of thought as she jumps from subject to subject. To those who aren't as familiar with her, they may think her a little overwhelming after these passionate outburts.

She realizes that she should be a little more impersonal in some situations, but her overbearing motherly intentions find a way to shine through. Trying to appear disinterested or being short or vague with her wording is one way she tries to deter people without being outright rude, but it's a wall she's still struggling to surmount.
