Me and my english teacher are in an arguement. We had an assignment to write a book review and I am reading the left behind series. well, left on the comments page, she wrote a comment on how most christians dont believe in a literal rapture. which I think is totaly bogus. Have "most christians" not read the book of revelations? so my question is: do you believe in a literal rapture? or am i wasting my time studying the bible and hard-core praying i'm not one of the ones left behind? please be honest with me. and if you havent read the book of revelations please dont post.

Well I don't think it's for anyone to say what "MOST" Christians believe. There is certainly a body of belif that denies the possibility of rapture, but there is a strong following for rapture. Rapture is certianly an interesting idea, but I don't think it's important to believe one way or the other.

Things will play out as God intends it to. That isn't what's important. If you are only a Christian to avoid the judgements of revelations, then you are a believer for the wrong reason and God knows your heart...so you're doing yourself non favor.

Well...
I think you've got it partially right and partially wrong.
Yes, I believe in the literal rapture. However, I don't believe you need to pray not to be one of those left behind. If you've read Revelations, you'll see that in the course of events, before the Tribulation, all of the believers are to be taken to Heaven, in the rapture. So, if you're a Christian, if you have Jesus in your heart, if you believe with all your heart that He's your Lord and Savior, then you've got nothing to worry about, you'll be outta here. If you're already a believer, there's no need to pray that you won't be left behind.

LOL...just a small price to pay for being a "New Blood Christian" (THat's the only name that seems to fit where I stand within the Christian spectrum.)

I don't really know, but I think what was written in Revelations was pretty close.

You know how God says that Heaven will be a million times better than out best dreams of it? So how can it be written about in Revelations be exactly as the descriptions are? They will probably be better. This also probably applies to the rest of the phenomenal things in Revelations.

My advice is be prepared and trust in God while we wait for these things, so you won't loose your head when they come.

Ohhh Mannn I can't wait until the rapture. One time I just read revelation in an hour all together and it's an awsome chapter. I believe the rapture will happen within the next 15 years. Just look at Iran. Iran's president wants to blow Isreal off the face of the earth. Also I heard about some barcode thing that there going to make people take. Which was on the news a few weeks ago. It sounds like it could be the mark of the beast. Whatever you do don't take it. If you take it you sold yourself to the devil.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT TAKE IT!!!!!!!

Well, I believe that, as Revelations says, no one but God knows when it will happen. Not even Jesus knows, if you think about it. There's Biblical proof, if you don't believe me.
1. You may consider reading Revelation a bit slower, my mother took a two year class on it.
2. Revelation is a book, not a chapter.
3.Contrary to popular belief, things can, and most likely will, get much, much worse.
4. I don't think this whole barcode thing is the mark of the beast. Seriously. The mark of the beast isn't going to be something people have a real choice with. It'll be like, Get the mark, or you're a criminal. By the time the mark is in order, the Christians will be gone. Besides that, the barcode gives you no other reason to believe it would be the mark. Perhaps the beginnings of a prophecy fullfilled, but not it. Getting the barcode is not seeling your soul to the devil. If you don't even know that you did it, that would be invalid. Your soul is a choice you have to make.

Actually, it's all the other way in our days: Most Christians believe in a literal rapture. We have to keep in mind first that the Book of Revelation uses a lot of figures and was written in an apocalyptic language, so one should be EXTREMELY careful when interpreting the things said in the book. Let's just keep in mind what has been said in 2 Peter 1:20-21: "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

To talk about the rapture would mean spend a lot of time writting here, and since I don't have that much time, I'll rather give you two specific sites about the matter:

The Illusory hope of the Rapture

Is the Pretribulation Rapture Theory Biblical?

There you can find the truth of God's Word exposed objectively. I hope in the Lord that He opens the minds of all of us who for so long have been believing a non-Scriptural doctrine.

I personally think that the rapture is a true and litarel thing, I have just read the book of Revalations and I had already read and seen many things that have to do with the rapture and I have always thought that to be true, and I still do and if any one who has read it and still dosen't belive I am shocked!!!!!

I know the rapture is real. I have Revelations over and over again and I have gotten a different meaning out of it each time. I really don't want to be the one to be left behind. I don't want to be the one to have the mark of the beast on my body. I would rather die!

Actually, reference to the rapture is not in Revelation. Jesus himself gave referce to it, ("I will come like a thief in the night...") and I believe there is reference to it in Hebrews and I think one of the little books. Not sure which...

Most Christians do belive in the rapture though some think it will happen at different times. Pre-tribluationist think it will happen before the rapture, there is one group that thinks it will happen just before the REALLY bad stuff happens (after the pause in heaven) then there are some, pre-millinalist, that think it will happen during the second coming of Christ, ya know, when he come and kicks everyones tooshies. The bible can be inturperted many ways. The important thing is that we all agree on the basics.
Jesus was born of a virgin,
He was fully God and fully man,
He was sinless,
He died on the cross to save us,
He rose again after three days,
and He is in heaven right now waiting to take us home.

Those things are the meat of Christianity. The rest is just icing. 3nodding
