http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2XtMY_G1OMIts a beautiful piece, yes. But there are like 27 flutes and only 6 of us can play good. 17 Saxphones and 7 can play good. No way can we play this and sound THAT good. My grade wants to play it, and we might be able to pull it off, not the younger grade we are forced to combine with lol. Anyone have any impossible songs their BD's are trying to get them to play?

I've played this piece! It's beautiful and pretty cool... You should be okay if your flutes can play high and you have decent trombones and french horns... Its a fun piece but tedious at first.

well it doesn't sound extremely difficult, im sure he's not expecting immediate results and a carbon copy of the tape.
On another note, weirdest thing happened when i was listening to that recording, i got pacem stuck in my head, love the piece but i'm wondering how i got pacem out of that, although they both had trumpet soloists pacems style is 100% different

I AGREE! XD No, but I can see why this piece could be difficult, but try to think of this as an opportunity to work harder and teach and help others. As an upper classmen, you should take it upon yourself to try and help the younger or less experienced people in the ensemble to become better so that you all can sound great. Because you know, a NORMAL person whose NOT a band geek isn't going to listen and say "Oh, those six flutes sounded really good. The rest sucked." They're going to hear all the bad people and judge YOU off of that. Not to mention that you're sounding pretty hateful to the lower classmen right now. We were all there once. You should try to help them instead of looking down on them or doubting your abilities as an ensemble. Hoped this helps. Remember, we're band nerds. We have the potential to do anything! : )

That honestly doesn't sound too hard to me. ^^; I'm sure you all can do it, so long as the parts are distributed correctly and such. Good luck!
On another note, my band is going to attempt to play this. It was originally written for a symphony [[obviously]] but we're going to try it out for band. :] Lol, and I get the violin part! : D [[How's that for scary? >.<']]

Tchaikovsky's pieces are always beautiful.
@ OP: Well, in jazz band we're attempting to play "The First Noel" at 60BPM in 3/4 with this weird a** key and all sorts of accidentals that makes it sound nothing like the first noel. You listen to it, and you'll think "Oh, well that's OH MY GAWD WTF WAS THAT, oh that was gr-WTF THERE'S THAT NOTE AGAIN."
Seriously it's ugly, and with us trying to make it sound "right", it makes it worse.

Our Wind Ensemble played this one, they pulled it off quite nicely. I think you should be fine if you split up the parts right. Your band seems kind of huge.
