Evie loved getting boxes from home. It made her feel like she wasn't so far away at the Barren Pines campus (even if she wasn't ever really that far away), and it always meant that there would be goodies in abundance. This care package came as a great stress relief, after having that horrid science class, and she stripped away the tape with her room key, pulling the cardboard flaps open with a little bit of elbow grease and a little more key-work.

What she found inside made her hum in excitement: a few new sweaters for the oncoming cold, a new CD for her to deconstruct, and a few written letters from Zachary. She could smell something sweet and delicious, though, and began to dig even deeper until she found a tupperware box, filled to the brim with chocolate-chip cookies, right alongside a box of instant cocoa and some candy-canes to make the hot drink minty. Evie wasn't sure, but she thought that perhaps she had died and gone to heaven.

She had to share this gift of joy with someone.

Evie had neighbors, of course, but despite being the social diva she was, she only knew each marginally. Fallon was a cook at heart, so chances are she had cookies of her own, but Effie did pottery, and you most certainly couldn't eat that. Besides, Evie had a sneaking suspicion that Effie would be more fun too hang out with. And so it was with this suspicion that Evie picked up her box of cookies and cocoa, bounding over to the next door and giving it three firm knocks, clear enough to be heard but not obnoxiously loud. With any luck, the other girl wouldn't be studying or something else important like that.

Effie was sorting through her closet when she received a knock upon her door.

A couple days earlier, the girl had just returned from a recent shopping trip. On this particular shopping spree, Effie had left the mall with no less than six bags, all of which were filled to maximum capacity. That could only have meant one thing: it was time to sift through her closet. Effie's closet was filled with a variety of things, and no space was left unaccounted for. Dresses, blouses and sweatshirts all hung neatly from their hangers, while shoes, pants and skirts had properly been stored in organizers of varying degrees. Old clothes she had taken out of there were now lying on her bed, only to be replaced by the ones she had just picked up. Her old belongings awaited bags which would be taken to charity - what use was throwing these things out if they could just be reused again? The potter was just about to place a newly bought dress in her closet when she heard the knock.

Who could that be?

Quickly, Effie hung up the dress and then answered the door saying, "Lucas, if that's you, go away right now. I'm not interested."

Evie tensed at such a terse greeting, but she nevertheless put a smile on and waved her box of cookies, tilting her head so that it could be seen from the way the door was cracked. "What if I wasn't Lucas, and what if I had freshly made cookies? Would that make you interested?" The name Lucas seemed vaguely familiar, but she couldn't seem to put a face to the name. No matter--she was sure that he would come up in conversation, or she would see him around campus. After all, it wasn't the largest of schools, and considering how long it had been around, everyone pretty much knew everyone.

"I have hot cocoa, too, if that's more to your tastes," she added in a sing-songy voice, waving the box of instant cocoa around. "I just got a care package in the mail, and I thought I'd, y'know, share it with one of my loving neighbors. Are you busy, or do you want to come over?" Never mind that her room wasn't immaculate--it never was--but then again, that's why she'd picked Effie and not Fallon. Perhaps the more artsy of the two could be more forgiving of a little clutter.

Hot chocolate? Cookies? A sing-song voice? That could only be one person.

It was Evie, her next-door neighbor!

Effie opened the door almost immediately after telling off who she thought was Lucas. An apologetic look was plastered on her face as she flicked a wave toward the singer. She shouldn't have made assumptions like that on who was knocking on her door. After all, it could have been anyone, and not just Lucas. After she opened the door, the potter then leaned on it and flashed Evie a sheepish smile.

"Sorry for all that," she said, rubbing the back of her head, "I thought you might have been Lucas." Pushing herself off of the door, she then moved backward and into her room some. "Cookies sound wonderful, as does the hot chocolate. I assume there will be a meeting in your room? I'll bring my makeup case!" Effie said this with a nod and pointed off behind her. A large makeup case sat on her desk, but not just any size. It was the type that professionals used. Clearly, the girl was attached to her beauty products. "A party sounds fun, and I could use some girl time."

"Lucas-Shmucas, don't worry about it," Evie responded with a nod of her head and an ever-widening smile on her face. "You bring over that make-up case of yours and we'll have a girl's night in to rock the ages! Just come over when you're ready, mmkay?" Without waiting for an answer, she bounded back to the next door over, moving her textbooks off of her spare chair to have some extra space and cleaning off her sink counter for make-overs. Once she felt like the room was de-cluttered enough for visitors, she grabbed a mug and began to make the first cup of cocoa, her expression fading from excitement to anxiety once on her own.

There were still so many unanswered questions with what Sue had told her, and no one she knew had yielded any answers (not that any of them would have admitted to talking to cat-boy about her). All in all, the encounter from this morning's lab had left her confused and hurt in ways that she hadn't known to be possible, and she knew that she needed this opportunity to de-stress.

Granted, she could also use it as a way to glean information. Stirring the contents of the cocoa bag into her cup of water, she placed the first cup in her microwave, putting the timer on two minutes. Once Effie made her way over, then questions could be asked and answers. Evie would get to the bottom of this. She had to.

"Make up case, girl talk, got it!"

Euphemia beamed at her neighbor and gave her a definite nod. Tonight was going to be a fun night. Heck, she couldn't even remember the last time she had a girl's night with someone other then Arlet. Evie's invitation was a well-welcomed surprise, and frankly Effie couldn't wait. There was so much the two of them could talk about. Boys, clothes, music -- the list was endless, really.

It didn't take her long to get ready. All she had to do was get her pajamas on, grab a bag and put a few necessities in it: toothbrush, hairbrush, dental floss, perfume, and then grab her make up case. Once she was done with all of that, the potter was set and ready to go. Still smiling, Euphemia exited her room and knocked on the door to Evie's.

It was time to get this party started.

The knock at Evie's door came as a start to her, and she nearly jumped out of her skin despite what she should have expected. It was so like her, too, to get lost in thought like that, and yet Evie couldn't seem to calm her nerves, pouting in disdain at the spilt cocoa mix on her counter. She had been half-way into making cup number two, but it seemed she'd be wasting one package, wiping away the powdery remains as the microwave beeped, indicating that the first mug of cocoa had finished. With a half-frantic scurry, Evie opened the microwave door and carefully removed the cup, only then walking carefully to the door to open it up for her neighbor.

"Come in, come in!" Evie said, and again the girl was all smiles, handing Effie the still-piping mug of cocoa the moment she had a chance. The cookies were on her desk, the tupperware bin opened and wafting a sweety sugary smell into the room that mixed with the purfumes of cocoa, altogether making Evie think she'd turned her dorm into a sort of Candy Land. After motioning for Effie to set her things down and sit, she returned to her own half-made cup of cocoa to start over, emptying out the mug and turning on her faucet to get some new, clean water.

"There's milk in the fridge if you want to add some sort of creamer into your cocoa, or if you just want something to dip your cookies in, and there are cups on that shelf over there," said Evie with a flick of her wrist towards a shelf next to her closet. Pouring in the chocolate mix successfully this time around, she put her mug into the microwave, set the timer, and flopped into her own chair, reaching for a cookie with a fast hand.

"Soooooo, how's life been?" Evie asked, deciding that she should start the conversation.
