When Capcom released resident evil 5 the video game world was shaken to thecore as it was accused of being racism incarnate. (Ok it wasn't called that) butit was accused of being a racist game. The game takes place in Ugduu (Sp?) south africa so of course to people it automatically means thereis going to be black people in it. The portrays the people as savages, dirty, and violent. Instead of the story line being about finding a cure for the virus there. It's about finding a clue because that is where the source of the virus is. There is alot of killing africans by a white guy and so many other things.

As much as it's accused of being racist. It seems that it's more white americans calling it racist than black americans themselves. So is it racist or is itjust a video game?

I think it has slight racial undertones but it is not mean to be racist. Although it does feel like the creators of the game just looked at a book about africa from the 1800's and said that is modern africa instead of going there themselves and drawing the place how it looks now. It looks like they didnt do much research and so many other tings. But I somewhat agree that calling it racist is slightly over exaggerating a bit.

this video helps explain a little better about the game than I can.

Yet this does raise another question. Can today's generation tell when something has crossed the line and become racist or offending? Or do we try to defend it?

Very murky question. However let's assume:

1. Racist or screaming racism is very ugly. Thanks to our parents or grandparents that live through the civil rights era. They have made it socially unacceptable to be openly racist. Which for better or worst have made thing either better or worst. (Yes that's confusing I know.) On the one side we don't get terrorized as much on the streets. (assuming you don't live in LA, NY, and/or congressed areas where you have many different racial groups) But every year less and less BLACKS (as well as other colored groups) don't get into college, get higher income rackets, ect.

2. The race card has been overplayed or misused: Classic case OJ which exemplifies both. Black dude marries white chick, is beloved by all, white chick cheats on Black guy, thus Black guy kills her and her lover. Someone calls crazy Black guy a ******. White guy is called a racist and the cases against Black goes really goes to s**t there.

Blacks use OJ as payback for all the under solved or unsolved crimes against us from pre-civil rights era. Cause yeah how many white folks get away with killing a Black person? Thus freeing OJ (who we all know DID do that crime) Later on OJ gets caught for stealing and will probably spend the rest of his life in jail anyway. YAY for Black Power.

Point is: Sometimes our so-called Black causes are misused or not that well thought out.

Now as per this game: Well if the company was funded by Blacks and was publish by Def Jamz there wouldn't be a real problem now would it? However instead of zombie Africans we would have zombie Rappers (which for the record I would find more appealing). However that's beside the point.

But because the game was basically designed by white people it has to be racist. Since the lead character is in fact a white guy shooting black or African zombies.

Never mind this white guy is trying to fix the s**t or the fact that in all out games it's been white on white killing. So the question then is would it been less of a s**t-storm if the lead characters were Black and VO by people like Samuel L. Jackson and Lit' Kim?

I feel as a generation we are unable to clearly understand what is and isn't racist and we do tend to either misuse and overuse the term.

Besides even if this game is racist at least it gives retarded racist ******** a chance to vent our their anger safely. I rather Klan member vents on a video game than irl. Don't you?

Ugh, honestly... I couldn't stand finishing that video off after about one minute of it. Resident Evil 5 is NOT racist. I've been playing the game since I was 7 years old (1996) and up until the 4th game, the only race you ever killed was the white population. There WERE other races in the games such as Carlos Oliveria (Hispanic) in the third game as well as side characters who died heroically in the others. Yet you don't directly kill any race besides white people the entire time. In the 4th game, which is actually like the 6th, you travel to Spain as Leon Kennedy so obviously you're killing Hispanics and in this game you travel to Africa to kill even more races than just black. Some parts of this game do come off as stereotypical but ONLY if you pay that close of attention and even then Capcom actually did go to Africa themselves and took pictures to design the game after what they saw. Hell, you play with an intellegent African the entire time! If anything, this game portrays the Caucasian race in the bad light. Yes, you go to Africa and kill a bunch of different races but the actual bad guys of the story are Albert Wesker (White) and his minions (Italians).

Even then, Capcom and Resident Evil are created by Japanese people living in Japan.
