Macha lay incredibly still; her paws sprawled out to the side of her and her eyes looked skywards, unblinking. Her breath was shallow and barely visible and a few flies had begun to land on her, crawling over her skin but she resisted snapping at them as she played dead. At last, she heard a crow call from the trees above and moments later followed by a flap of feathers, no doubt another joining the first. Moments passed as if the crows were somewhat weary of swooping down upon to wolf to feed upon her dead carcass.

A soft call to the crow beside the other indicated that it was going to risk coming down to the ground to feed as the coast seemed clear to them. Little did they know, Macha was not dead. As the crow landed upon the ground it hopped, once, twice and thrice over to it’s meal, but upon reaching the throat Macha twisted her neck suddenly, rising up to snap at the crow.

Quickly she got her paws underneath her and jumped up, the crow still in her mouth and with an efficient flick of her neck and a crack of her jaw she dispatched the crow, who now hung limply in her mouth. The other crow was bouncing about up in the trees, rather irate at watching the spectacle of a dead wolf coming to life. Macha spat the crow from her mouth and snarled up at the other, ‘be gone you noise maker or I will kill you next.’ The crow called in alarm and then took to wing.

Macha looked down at the crow she had caught and then began to strip it of its feathers. Macha had not known how her parents had died; she had only come across their corpses some hours later, once the light had faded from their eyes and they were growing cold as their blood seeped into the earth beneath them. She had watched at first how the crows fed upon the carrion and it was in that moment she had made a promise to herself, we would not be weak, she would not be a meal for the crows and she would grow strong.

The crows foot about her neck had been from one of the crows feasting upon her parents, they had not noticed her coming to grieve her parents while in their feeding frenzy and in rage Macha had snapped at several of them, wounded one and watched as it died from it’s wounds, a slight satisfaction coming from seeing it suffer after ripping her mothers stomach open. Macha had not wept; she had simply stood over her parents corpses, saying silent good byes while the crows had collected in the trees above.

After stripping the bird of most of its feathers she fed upon some of its flesh and then left the remains for the flies. She gathered the black feathers in her mouth and then looked about herself before taking off at a trot, to hunt down the ‘pretty female gifted by humans.’

Madhuri lay stretched out on a warm stone, sunning herself and enjoying the warmth of the day as her thoughts flowed effortlessly through her mind. In a way she was meditating, something she rather enjoyed making a habit of when she got the chance to. Her thoughts drifted more towards the arrival of new pack members, particularly the brand new Beta male, HanGeng. She herself had gotten the pleasure of bringing him into the pack, and now her mind replayed their meeting as she lay there in a state of dreamlike half-consciousness.

She was not hard to miss, however, as her belled collar and bangles shone brilliantly in the sunlight, giving her away from quite a distance. Her ears instinctively perked at the faint sound of approaching footsteps, even though her mind was far away. She wasn't much worried about attack, seeing as she was quite close to the denning sites within their territory..so her daydreaming continued.

Macha started to scent another wolf upon the air and she slowed her pace, no wolf will ill intent could be found within the pack's territory, not unless they had just entered but as it was she was in the heart of the pack lands and she trusted HanGeng to have done his job and to have protected the boundaries. The pack was still growing in size and though it was not really the responsibly of the beta male to protect the boundaries HanGeng took it upon himself to see to them at present. Also she had smelt this scent within the territory before, but she had yet to meet it's owner.

She broke clear of the undergrowth and rest her eyes upon the blood red female. The female lay basking in the late autumnal sun light, taking in all the warmth it had to offer before winter came and the last hope of warmth vanished for several months. The morning light was just right to catch the golden jewellery she was bedecked in, casting golden simmering spots of light all around her body like a huge halo. Macha was impressed at the amount of accessories she wore, pondering upon how the female wolf hunted without spooking the prey.

After a quick look, she marched up to the female and spat the feathers out close to where the female lay, though one remained hanging onto her dampen lip as she announced, 'Morning, I am Macha. Haku tells me that you are gifted by humans. I want to wear these feathers...' She flicked the stray feather from her lip with a brief flicker of her tongue and a focused breath, she looked down at the ravens feathers and then back up at the red female. 'Do you know of a way I could do that?' She tilted her head to one side in a characteristic fashion, something she had done from when she was a pup and awaited an answer.

Madhuri smiled and rose from her sun-soaked resting spot, her fur satisfyingly saturated with the warmth of the day. She considered the young female for a moment and nosed at the feathers that she had dropped before her thoughtfully. She had heard a little about the pup and her taste for "jewelry"..what harm could come from lending a helping paw?

"Well then, young miss..where would you like to wear them? If I remember correctly..I've seen the native two-leggers affix feathers in their hair..perhaps we could find some of their leather cord and try it ourselves.."

She thought for a moment and smiled to herself, thinking back to the day when her "pack" of two-leggers dressed her up to join their fire dances, remembering the care they took when they put on her jewelry, careful as if they were dressing a sacred spirit or goddess. They were gentle with her..perhaps they would care for Macha the same way.

"Or...if you're feeling a bit adventurous, perhaps the two leggers would be inspired to help tie them on themselves..they certainly have practice with it" She winked at Macha and shook out her fur, jingling her bells in the process. "What do you think, little miss? Are you ready to learn how to interact with humans safely?"

Macha could not of been happier with the answers she got. The red female would take her to see the humans and not only that she said they may even dress her, allowing her to wear the crow feathers. 'I want to wear them in my fur.' She confirmed with the musical female and then a sudden concerned frown formed upon her brow, 'But they can't get in my way, oh no, I must still be able to hunt and... stuff.' Macha said this with dead seriousness staring at the female then she wondered how the female hunted with all the gold she wore constantly jingling and chiming like that, surely she'd give herself away to prey. Though as Macha had grown up with two lone parents she had get to learn the way a pack hunted, not really understanding stealth wasn't always needed for such an attack.

'I feel adventurous.' She nodded enthusiastically and then she beamed up at the red female. 'I always feel adventurous. Do we have far to go?' Filled with excitement Macha didn't even wait for an answer as she bent down to scoop up all the feathers into her mouth again, one or two being rather difficult as her breath kept blowing them further away from her. Chasing after the stray feathers she collected enough of them up until she stared up at the female once again, her endless black eyes sparkling as she awaited guidance to the humans.

Madhuri couldn't help but like the fiery spark that little Macha had to her personality. The kind of determination and energy involved was something she valued, something she would like to instill in her own pups someday, if she could ever have any. She listened to her concerns and nodded knowingly, looking down to the bangles around her paws.

"Ah, yes..hunting..the two leggers had taken to sharing their hunts with me..trying to hunt with these bells is quite challenging. However, with a hunting partner I can usually spook prey out of hiding into an ambush."

She stretched out and tipped her nose to Macha, leading her onward toward the edge of their territory through the trees. "I wouldn't worry though, their hunters and warriors wear feathers and it doesn't seem to hinder their abilities.."

She took a deep breath and took on a slightly more serious posture as she walked, dignified, important..a teacher breaking the levity to reinforce the lesson. "Now..We don't have far to travel before we find the two-legger's territory. They live close to us and we share their hunting areas, that is why it is so important that we remain calm, diplomatic, and peaceful when we see them. Their bodies may look soft and vulnerable, as they have few natural weapons such as our claws and teeth, but they can create deadly weapons and use them well."

She paused a moment and scented at the air, following the familiar scents towards the camp, relieved that her familiar humans have not had to move and resettle. "We have an advantage today..these humans will recognize me. When dealing with them on your own, it is important not to show them your teeth, short of yawning..and it never hurts to keep your distance until they relax..that is, if they relax at all....understand?" She tipped her head back to Macha, looking at her mouthful of feathers and cracking a smile, hardly expecting more than a nod of the head.

Macha listened to Madhuri’s reply to how she hunted and she nodded slightly, ‘that would work’ she thought to herself and now very happy to be in the company of a wolf that had human experience, which was terribly exciting, as well as knowledge and adaptation to deal with various challenges. She felt she could learn a lot from this female and at which point she promised herself that she’d spend more time with Madhuri when she wasn’t training with HanGeng or studying with Reaction.

Madhuri indicated with a slight tip of her nose, the direction they were to be heading and she trotted up her close the gap between them and walked briskly to keep up with the adult female. She could only listen silently while Madhuri explained how to act around the humans, though she had nothing to say on the matter and Madhuri seemed to know what she was doing so Macha placed her trust in the older wolf. As Madhuri turned to her for confirmation that she would behave as she had just explained Macha simply fixed her endless eyes upon golden yellow and nodded violently showing she would obey fervently, for she did not like the sound of the human made weapons.

Macha flicked her gaze forwards, piercing the sparse autumnal undergrowth, made up mainly of dead bracken, to try and catch her first glimpse of the humans and those she would soon have to trust to dress her in her small collection of crow’s feathers.

Madhuri giggled and smiled at the pup's enthusiasm, refreshed by her attentiveness and excitement. She truly enjoyed spending time with pups and found herself equally excited about teaching Macha the ropes of human diplomacy. Hopefully she could make the experience fun and positive for her so that her learning came along that much easier.

"Hah! Well then, it looks like you're as excited to get started as I am..Don't worry, we've not got much farther to go." Here she paused and scanned the trees, looking up above the treeline and seeing the building plumes of light wispy smoke from the midday cooking fires. "Ah-ha..they have their lunch fire going..makes them easier to find. This way, Macha.."

She looked back to the pup and trotted towards the source of the smoke, leading her onward closer to the human's camp. The shapes of tents and huts came slowly into view between the trees, racks of drying meat and leather hung up to cure. There was the smell of cooking meat in the air as they approached the borders of the camp, Madhuri stopping again and peeking at the busy two-leggers working within.

"Now..two-leggers don't scent mark, Macha..but usually their borders are fairly easy to see, as they are here.." she said, nodding to the line of trees surrounding the clearing, the rough underbrush cleared out of the area leaving soft earth for the humans to tread upon. "We can get fairly close, so long as we aren't licking our chops and looking like we think they'd be tasty. Pretty easy to understand..I'd think it rude if some other wolf stared me down and licked his chops too." She chuckled softly and stepped closer to the border of the two-leggers camp, sitting down and lifting her head in a dignified fashion, motioning with her paw for Macha to join her.

Macha had to trot rather briskly to keep up with Madhuri thought it didn’t seem to tire her much, simply fuelled by excitement of learning something new and totally foreign to her. Perhaps a wolf of Macha’s tender age should have been a little more apprehensive when learning of two leggers but Macha was a confident young and along with that she hungered for any sort of knowledge.

After a few more yards, Madhuri informed her that they had cook fires going. She looked up at Madhuri and followed the jewellery bedecked female’s eyes and looked up at the tree line and noting the plumes of smoke. Macha’s sense of smell was hindered somewhat by the lightly bloodied feathers she carried in her mouth but not long after the scent of smoke grew and soon came other numerous scents and mostly all unknown to the blue legged pup. Again Mahuri pointed out more interesting habits of the two leggers to her, noting how they marked their boundaries. It made sense to Macha she supposed, it would be easier to travel more swiftly with less undergrowth but a small frown formed as she considered the lack of cover it presented. She concluded that the two leggers must be confident in their abilities to protect themselves. With the last of Madhuri’s words she nodded in confirmation, she agreed she’s not like that either.

So as Madhuri came into view for the two leggers, Macha caught her simple gesture and she advance slowly, cautiously, not wanting to appear assertive or aggressive but neither did she cower like an omega. Macha came to Madhuri’s side and sat herself down in a similar fashion to that of her teacher and lifted her head to take in the wondrous view of the utter unknown.

Madhuri smiled as little Macha joined her, and she looked ahead into the bustling human settlement. It appeared that lunch was just now underway, the women and young ones were tending the food on the fires, and even smaller two-leggers restlessly played as the others busied themselves. The men were maintaining the camp, sharpening weapons and stringing up hides and curing meat. At that time, Madhuri tilted her head and gave a soft "wuff", grabbing the attention of several of the nearby males, their warriors, the ones with feathers strung through their hair, the ones who recognized her. She perked her ears forward and softened her voice as the group approached. One of the men was bold enough to lean down and run his fingers through her fur. He was smiling, and he spoke excited words that the two of them couldn't understand. Madhuri remained calm, despite the language barrier, and enjoyed the human's scratching behind her ears and the rubbing of her coat. Ahh humans...they could always reach that spot behind her ears that she couldn't ever seem to reach...at least, not in a lady-like way.

She looked up to the humans and smiled, gesturing with her muzzle as she looked down to Macha, looking back up to them and wagging her tail, keeping her smile. The human that had rubbed on Madhuri crouched down to Macha's level, cautiously holding out his hand for her to get his scent first before going anywhere near trying to put his hands on her. Madhuri just smiled. "See that? He's being polite..don't worry, he won't hurt you..just don't chew on him or anything.."

Macha stared at the hand that was outstretched to her and blink once and then slowly lifted her eyes to take in the two legger, working up to his face and staring him straight in the eye. After a shared moment she blinked and broke the contact and twisted her head to look at Madhuri and smiled behind a mouthful of feathers. She turned again and looked at the hand and then slowly leant forwards and dusted his skin with her cold damp nose and sniffed him. He smelt of a collection of wondrous smells, some known to her and some totally foreign but all in all a good smell. She sniffed a little more and once content she looked up at the two legger and wagged her tail once, swishing it out behind her in the dirt.

((Sorry it's rather short but I did not think it needed any more as she still cannot speak with the feathers in her mouth))

Madhuri watched happily as the native man continues to talk excitedly to his companions, now gently rubbing his fingers through Macha's fur and scratching behind her ear as he had done before. He then gets down on one knee and looks curiously at the feathers in her mouth as he ruffles the fur at the back of her neck, pondering their meaning.

Madhuri wuffed again softly to get the warrior's attention, shaking out her fur to make her belled necklace jingle softly, tilting her head to Macha now to drive the point home.

The man chuckles a bit and looks down to Macha's feathers, holding his hand out, palm up, to accept them from her. He then turns to his companions and points to the feathers tied into his own hair and motions to Macha, and the other warriors go to fetch the leather ties.

"I think he got the idea..Looks like you'll be all decked out in no time!"
she beamed, her tail still wagging cheerfully as she stays close by Macha's side. Even though she knew her human friends wouldn't dare harm her or the pup in her charge, she still felt it was her responsibility to make it very clear to the men that little Macha's safety was important to her.

Macha stood shock still at first as the human ran his hands over her, the sensation new and strange though after a short while her muscles began to relax and she started to enjoy the attention and when he stroked her in areas she simply couldn't reach or no other wolf had touched upon and leant into his arm asking for more and that he never stop, the sensation will worth the trip here if nothing else. But as with all good things it came to an end and the human started to take an interest in the raven feather she still held in her mouth. His hand came around in front of her and opened up expectantly. Macha looked at Madhuri sideways and then looked up at the human, finally she trusted him with the feathers she had spend hours trying to gain and opening her mouth she rolled her tongue forwards forcing the feathers out. They had grown damp in her mouth and a few stuck to her tongue which she had to run up along her front teeth to try and get off, though finally she entrusted the human with her cargo.

She looked the human in the eye then trying to communicate with him in a language other than words before looking up at Madhuri, 'He wears feathers too...' she turned her attention back to the human and tried to puzzle as to why the human would wear feathers and what sort were they, snowy white with tips looked like they had been dipped in a muddy puddle they were larger than any she had ever seen before.

Soon enough the other men came walking back with the leather strips in there hands, handing them over to the two-legger that knelt down beside Macha. He immediately set to work, combing fingers through her fur and weaving the feathers in with practiced hands, taking care not to pinch or pull her fur. The other men went about their business as Madhuri watched with growing pride. Macha was taking it well, the perfect little diplomat, she thought. Most pups her age would probably recoil or n** at their first contact with humans, especially being touched by one. Macha was different..in a very good way, and with her worries at ease, Madhuri settled down onto the ground beside her to keep watch.

"A lot of them do..you should see it when they have 'pack meetings' and celebrations", she said, smiling as she nodded to Macha, "Their leader wears a lot of them when he gets dressed up..we'll have to visit sometime when they get together like that. It'll be fun!"

Macha sat obediently next to Madhuri as the two legger moved away to gather whatever it was he needed to attach the raven feathers to her fur, as he came back she watched him lower himself down besides her and slowly approach her with a brown thin vine like material which he began to slowly braid into the thick fur about her neck, he was gentle and worked in a manner which suggested he was good with his hands. This was all new and exciting to Macha and perhaps to a less out going wolf they’d be a little more nervous right now but Macha placed her trust into her pack mate, who was now settled down on the ground besides her, the females confidence allowed her to mirror it, if Madhuri had reason to become jumpy she herself would also be.

Endless black eyes looked up into those of the two legger but he did not stare back at her, he was focused on his work and Macha looked upon him in fascination, she wished she could get her paws to do such delicate work; it would make fishing much easier that’s for sure, among other things she wagered. Madhuri informed her that the two leggers leader wore a large amount of feathers, which led her to wonder if it was for the same reason as why she wanted to wear her raven ones. As for visiting them again Macha nodded enthusiastically and turned to yip a response at the blazing red female, ‘Oh yes, can we?’
