I've recently been reading up on the changes in the cervix at different time periods of the cycle and learning about the opening of the Os and the hardness/softness of the cervix for self examinations. What I am having trouble with, though, is I can't seem to tell if my cervix is hard or soft and it always seems to be partially open.
I just started examining it a couple of weeks ago, I am due for my period any day now (hopefully soon), and around this time I believe the cervix is supposed to be low, firm, and partially open. Mine seems to be low enough, I can reach it easily by sitting on the edge of a low bed. I use my middle finger and it doesn't take the whole thing (it takes almost all of it, but there is still about half a centimeter to a centimeter left). Like I said before, ever since I started examining it the past couple of weeks, it seems partially open, I can fit the very tip of my finger in, but that's all. I've never experienced it fully open where my finger is actually able to go in, nor do I know what the "dimple" feels like when it's closed. Also, I cannot tell if it is firm or soft. I find the os then feel around it and it seems to be firm when I press on it, but I cannot tell if there is a softer layer on the outside that I am just pressing on.
I've heard that when it's firm it should feel like the tip of your nose and when it's soft it should feel like your lips, but really, that is not helping me. Any help with all of this would be greatly appreciated.
