There's just a couple of things Noya and I have to look into and discuss with regards to the meta before I can mark this profile. I will get to it ASAP though. <3Name: Masenda Age: 18 Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: N/A Rank: Candidate
History: Masenda was born to a Dragonrider, and his wife he'd wed not long before he'd attended the Hatching and Impressed. His wife had, in fact, been pregnant with Masenda on the day he'd impressed. It was almost too late in his life to do so, but he became a Brownrider. Outside of being a Dragonrider, both he and Masenda's mother were Bakers, having met through their parents. As a child Masenda was energetic and mischievous, getting into what trouble she could- but never taking it too far. Like most people in Ghenza, her mother and those who raised her were proud of who they were, and blatant disobedience or mischief that would detract from their work would never have been tolerated. When not learning her Craft, often her father would have her assist him with his dragon, in the hopes she'd grow to follow in his footsteps. However, at first it seemed she wasn't too keen on that idea, annoyed with being dragged to wash a dragon when it was her free time. Then... well... Her strongest memory, from before her own Impression, was watching the Impression of one of her friends. It became a burning passion, with her, to have a dragon of her own, a lifemate of her own. Outside of lessons with the Harper, she spent time assisting her mother and Father in the kitchens, cooking the meals everyone ate and learning her Craft as was Ghenza tradition. Occasionally, this led to her going to the homes of a Dragonrider or two, as if they were not feeling well, her mother would send her with a tray to feed them, or with teas the Healer had said they should take. She quickly learned the layout of the small area that was serviced, and it gave her time to watch the dragons and the riders at their work in the sky or to just admire the great creatures where they lived, in the fields. It was in her 16th turn that she Impressed Gold Damiath, and from that point on, her life would not be the same. The first year was, of course, a great deal of work, feeding the walking stomach, getting closer to her dragon, and making sure her Lady was well in control, not using her status to pressure the males. The first day she took to the skies with Damiath, their first flight... That was a strange day indeed. Masenda tasted freedom, for a moment, something she'd never tasted. As they spent time learning the ins and outs of flight, and then going Between, Masenda's taste of freedom got stronger with each 'bite', so to speak. She found herself wondering what else there was in the world, what it was like. Afraid? Yes, she was afraid of the outside, and the idea of the Plague, but at the same time, part of her wanted to know what the world looked like, how different it could be... And what others in the world could be like. Part of her yearned to explore, part of her wished to forget these feelings. They became buried, almost completely, but she still held the occasional daydream of flying off on Damiath for a day, just to see. She spoke of it to no one, though she was sure Damiath knew, but Damiath kept her secret for her. After all, she was sure no one would understand. As they began to settle into things, she spent many hours baking for the Dragonriders, as well as the others, using that time to talk with Damiath at a distance, liking the feeling of secret conversations. She began to hope for the chance to prove she was as good as the current Weyrwoman, for all though she respected the woman... Sometimes the intimidating woman irritated the younger Queenrider. Her attitude of being better, well many here had that but... Masenda found herself thinking perhaps Nalina thought herself better then EVERYONE. So she worked hard, but tried to keep her temper in check... Or at least in check around Nalina. She had her snapping points, but usually, managed to keep that to around those she trusted, as she was trying to prove to the others she was just as good. Nonetheless, she obeyed the older woman as she needed to, being respectful to her face. Perhaps some day she'd get her desire. Her fear of outsiders being tempered by her private interest in the outside world was enough that her reaction to the news that Outsiders were coming left her eager and nervous all at once. New friends, maybe, but outsiders... What if they turned out to be ill? And being riders, how would they act? Especially the new Goldrider coming in. Yes, she'd be junior to Masenda and Damiath but... mmmm they had two already, and since she was already uncomfortable enough with Nalina, this could prove bad. But yet, there was a chance it'd be good, for Nalina would have some one else to show she was better then. It would certainly prove interesting. She'd give them all a chance. The new candidates, however, she'd be watching hard. They weren't even riders, and they WERE coming in the hopes they'd be allowed to BE one. Didn't Ghenza have enough potential riders, since everyone of the right age was expected to Stand? She wasn't at all sure she liked the idea of bringing outsiders for THAT. It wasn't fair to those who were here and might dream of it.
Appearance: Mid height, curvey in the right places. She has a scar on one arm from an incident were she accidentally burned herself, when carelessly removing something from the Bakery's cookfires. Her eyes are dark green-blue, her hair is long, straight, and a rich, coppery red. Her skin is paler, from the time spent inside the kitchens. Her lips are full and red. She has smaller scars on her hands, arms, and legs from small cuts and scrapes she got in her years of playing, and occasionally slipping and falling.
Personality: Occasionally imperious, mostly friendly, Masenda is generally a delight to deal with. But in her imperious moods, no one and nothing that stands in her way makes her happy. She demands what she wants and gets growly and angry when she doesn't get it. These moods are usually triggered by an argument with some one, her mother, a friend, it doesn't matter, where she lost and it makes her angry and pushy to get her way for at least 2 days. Outside of those moods, her biggest flaw is she can be a bit klutzy. Not to the point of dangerousness, just the kind of carelessness that leads to cuts and scrapes because she misjudged a corner in her hurry to get around it. A phrase her mother often says is "Masenda, you bruised yourself AGAIN?" after she thumped into a corner of a table, or something. Her biggest strength is her willpower, however. Obviously, in a Mood, that contributes to her Mood, but out of that, she's strong willed. She doesn't let people change her mind without a very good reason. And that takes a lot of work, to convince her your reason is good. She's just that determined. She is fond of spending time listening to the Harper sing, reading Chronicles, occasionally going out to gather herbs. She loves singing and dancing, even if she rarely got the chance. She dislikes grumpy people, cleaning dishes, and washing laundry. When it came to dealing with her dragon, and the fact that Damiath's laziness sometimes seemed to irk the other riders, especially Nalina, Masenda tried to swallow it... But occasionally, she lost her temper and went into her Imperious Mood over it, telling the other to shove off, so to speak, and leave her be! She made sure Damiath was in shape, she made sure she hunted, how DARE they criticize her dragon and how she dealt with her Dragon! After all, she didn't let Damiath go overboard, she pushed her into what she needed to do! It was a sore point occasionally for her, and dealing with it was not something she wanted.
Other: Dragon:
Name: Damiath
Personality: Damiath is a balance to her rider. Were her rider can be hasty, and not pay attention to things in her desire to get where she's going, or do what she's doing, Damiath is slow, thoughtful, and determined to think each step out before she puts her foot down. She is always unwilling to move faster then she can think and react. Not to say her reactions or thoughts are slow, no, but she won’t be seen running into walls because she was in a hurry to get outside. While she can be very much a queen, in general, she’s relaxed and easy going about trying to get her way. However, when she does decide to be determined, or feels it’s for the good of Hers, she can be every bit as determined as her rider. For instance, she’s determinedly trying to always get Hers to slow down, relax, not rush so. She’d really like it if Hers didn’t get so bruised up! She loved spending time lazing in the sun, letting the warmth soak into her skin and bones, and getting her rider to scratch her itches, oil her skin, and all around care for her as needed. Masenda occasionally has to pressure her to not be such a lazy girl, to get up and go get her meals, for all that the sun is a delightful, warm place to be.
Description: Her body is a rich golden hue, that seems to catch the light at points. Her patterns are like an Iberian Lynx, but in shades of gold. Iberian Lynx

HISTORY:
If you would like to go the b*****d child route in your history, then I need to see a definite reflection of that life in her history and her personality. What made her mother keep her child, especially since it is considered extremely shameful to keep a kid out of wedlock? Did she ever come up with any excuses? Pretend someone else was the father?
You have to remember they're sort of a small-town type of community, so generally speaking someone would know if her mother had a fling with a dragonrider, so she'd definitely either need to a) acknowledge who the father was after the child was born or b) get another man to stand in for the father and essentially deal with it that way. In either case, Masenda would follow her father's craft, not her mother's (whether it was her real father or someone who was standing in for her father). If you can think of some other kind of possible solution that would fit Ghenza feel free to convince me otherwise, but I sort of only see her mother having two options in this.
I’d also like to know a little bit more about her time with her dragon, since there's been two years since she Impressed Damiath. What does she think of Ghenza's other queen? What does she think of her new life as a Dragonrider? Does she have any dreams/goals/desires that stem from having this gold? Things like that. They're two very important years of her life, and I definitely want to see what happened during that time.
PERSONALITY:
I like her personality a lot! Strong-willed goldriders ftw. XD
I'd just like you to tell me a little bit more about her relationships with other people (i.e. teamwork, that sort of thing) and how she relates to authority. Does she want to be in charge? Does she like being in charge? Who would she cater to the whims of, if anybody?
Just sort of other things to consider that would help with the profile:
- How do both rider and dragon feel about the current Weyrwoman? (I know there's no info on her in the NPCs list, but there's a general feel of her personality in the latest metapost which you can go off of.)
- How do they feel about having HR's Song Clutch coming? There's a gold younger than Damiath in that group, so how do they feel about having another gold (and a younger one) at the Weyr with them?
- How does Masenda feel about outsiders? We also have several candidates coming into Ghenza, so I'd like to see how she'd react to that.
- How has she dealt with being this b*****d child her whole life? Does she notice? Does she care? Does it make her want to try harder to win everyone over to her side? Does it make her protective of her mother or is she angry at her mother for not doing like everyone else does and marrying before she had a child?
- I'd also encourage you to read the bit in Ghenza and You on goldriders, especially the bit on how their dragons are treated. While Damiath can definitely have a lazy personality, I'd like to see how she deals with any of the repercussions from that/how Masenda deals with her personality.
Overall, I definitely like her! I know it's difficult to get used to the new setting, and you're on the right track for sure. Let me know if you need any extra help/opinions and I'll do what I can. <3
