It had been a day since the raid group returned, her mate and several others not included. Moonsong couldn't hardly sleep that night, simply trying to find a comfortable position to accommodate her belly. What little sleep she could manage was uneasy. She rose early in the morning and went topside. The monochrome doe sniffed the air, her ears turning every which way as she moved farther from the entrance to the run.
Cowslip hadn't returned with the main group, but perhaps he had just simply gotten separated and was making his way back. She did hope, but the knot of dread in her chest was becoming hard to ignore. To lie with you
Under a hundred moons could not erase
I'd give it all again to feel the sun again and let it warm my face
To love and lose and love again and sure as planets turn our faith in love that's everything
To lose and love only to lose again isn't bad if you believe in my heart
I will never leave you...

It was dark, it was scary, it was also nerve wracking. She had now idea how she had done it and stayed unscathed, but she had managed the task of getting back unscathed, alone. She suddenly felt for all the lone hlessi she had ever heard of in her stories. She could never do this sort've thing again.
Yet at the same time, pride was clearly glowing in her heart, for in her mouth, albeit small. The honey colored doe held in her mouth a single, juicy radish. It had been dug out much earlier on the raid, and had been laying there, tempting her by the fence as she snuck past. She couldn't help herself, and risked snatching it before she darted home. She had no idea if the others were sucessfull with their flayrah raiding, but she had been determined to bring something back for all the trouble, and all that waiting.
As she finally climbed up over the lip of the hill with he prize, she nearly flopped over in relief, more than glad to be back home, even though there was no one to greet her. However, There was a rather large doe on the run. A marli? At night? Was she insane? Focusing on her as she got up, Harebell finally recognized her from the other day. Wasn't she the one that Cowslip- Was she still waiting..? Had he not...?
Her ears lowered, before she picked up her prize and slunk over to her. "Moonsong. . .?" She asked, hoping to frith that she was right, yet at the same time hoped she wasn't.

The early morning promised of a beautiful day to come, and Frith's first rays gently touched the few early risers who had ventured out to silflay. A silent form sat watching over the down, ears erect to catch any sign of trouble, and nose wiggling slowly. No one had forced Rowanberry to take this early watch, but he had done so anyway. He would not have been looked down upon for leaving the morning shift to those in the Owsla who hadn't participated in the raid, but that was not the point. He was awake, wasn't he? And since he was, he might as well continue with his duties as usual.
It took a while for him to register that one of the rabbits out there had not come from the warren itself, but from outside. Harebell. She had been missing since the raid and he was frankly a bit surprised to see her still running, but from the looks of it she hadn't been harmed. As far as he could tell from this distance she moved normally, without the small tell tale signs in the body language you could see in an injured rabbit, even one who tried to hide her injuries.
He rose and groomed his face and ears, leaving the comfortable indentation his backside had made in the grass. But before he had the chance to lop off to intercept the pale doe he saw her approach another of the few warren members out this morning. Moonsong, was it? As he saw Harebell beside her he realised that the marli must be Cowslip's mate. He wondered if anyone had talked to her yet. They had discussed it among the Owsla last night since there had been two among those lost that would leave does expecting kittens behind.
All the more reason to talk to the two does, so Rowanberry slowly started to make his way towards them.((OOC: I'll let the two of them talk a bit before he joins them in my next post.))

She watched Frith slowly rise higher in the paling sky. At getting addressed, an ear turned towards the voice before her head to find a fair colored doe, one that she wasn't familiar with. Blinking, Moonsong nodded her head. "...Yes? Is there something I can do for you?" Her voice was soft and sounded tired, but she remained polite in spite of her worry.
The doe noticed the radish and looked keenly at the other. "Were you on the raid? Are you just getting back? Were have you been? Did they not look for you?" She looked around with her ears turning. There were a handful of early risers, but none seemed to be really coming from the direction in which the group left yesterday. A brown, scarred owsla seemed to be making his rounds, or was coming over.

"I made a safety hole under the pile of silflay, dirt and old flayrah. . ." She muttered in explination, the strong stench likely speaking for her as it'd take a few nights before she'd smell like rabbit again. "I.. I saw Cowslip. I was on his team, actually. . . As was Fledgestone and Foxfleet. . ." She said weakly. She hadn't seen any of them at all, She wasn't even sure where Foxfleet had dissappeared to once that bird had appeared, but she was sure he was safe. She had seen Fledgestone being chased by the dog, though, and shuddered, remembering seeing his chewed up corpse on the floor.
She was sure to be having nightmares of that farm for many moons. She slowly looked back to the Marli, before putting the radish down finally. "He hasn't made it back yet, has he? I saw you two together yesterday. . ." She nudged the vegetable closer to her. "Um. . . I'm sure he'd want you to have this. And he told me that, if he didn't make it back, I should tell you that His heart is forever yours."
She bowed her head in respect to the marli, feeling internally guilty for not being able to say much more. The radish? Well, despite her initial plans for wanting a souvenir, she was pretty certain the vegetables was the main reason why that buck had gone on such a suicide mission. Besides, that marli needed it much more than her, she was certain of that.
Besides, as she descovered as she walked back, sitting under a pile of decaying vegetables turned ones stomach against them. It'd only be a waste to keep it.

Moonsong nodded slightly as she listened. The other doe certainly smelled like her story was true. At her mentioning Cowslip, she stopped her nodding and simply fixed her attention on the other. "Well, I'm glad that they didn't split you all up to set you searching alone. That would have been disasterous."
In her opinion, the honey and white colored doe looked worse for wear. She could only imagine what sort of things had gone on down on that farm. At least they appeared to be slightly successful, if the radish was any indication.
At her question, the marli's ears drooped slightly. Shaking her head she answered, "No. He hasn't yet." A ghost of a sheepish grin passed over her features at the mention of her being seen with Cowslip yesterday. Her eyes drifted to the radish as Harebell nudged it her way. Oh...That knot of unease was tightening again. The monochrome doe's brow furrowed and she drew her ears back low over her back. "Oh...Oh, no. He isn't coming back, is he?" She gave a shuddering sigh, glancing skyward at the few remaining stars lingering in the paling sky before lowering her gaze. She was trying her damnedest to try and keep from breaking down completely, but her pale blue eyes did little to hide her utter sadness and distress. "Thank you for the radish. And...for telling me that. I shall keep it with me always. It," Moonsong paused to clear her throat and close her eyes. "It's nice to know that he thought of me."
She swallowed hard and opened her eyes. Offering the doe a sad smile, the marli stepped closer and lightly nuzzled the other before moving back to stand next to the gifted radish. "Thank you. I know it was dangerous and that you could have been killed, waiting out there away from the warren all night. Thank you. Now, I imagine that you're probably wanting to go get the stink of that place off of you. Go on ahead. You probably ought to rest instead of standing out here and dealing with a distraught marli." The expecting doe chuckled, but even in that could her sadness be heard.

A slight breeze was wafting toward Rowanberry as he made his way over to the does and it helped carry snippets of their conversation to him. He would need to make sure Harebell was as unharmed as she looked, but Moonsong might need to be dealt with first. It bothered him that no one had remembered telling her that Cowslip had stopped running and wasn't just missing after the raid.
"I'm afraid he will not come back Moonsong," he said gently as he reached the two does. Being gentle, or trying to, didn't come easy to him, but the situation seemed to ask for it, "Cowslip was one of the bucks that stopped running yesterday. I saw it happen myself unfortunately."
Would she want to know how, he wondered. It might do her some good to know that Cowslip's last action in life was to try to save another of the rabbits in the raid. Perhaps he shouldn't mention that it hadn't done Fledgestone any good in the end. He had at least managed to stop the berserking dog, even if he had paid in blood.
"I'm glad you're back, Harebell," he said in a more businesslike manner, turning to the pale and rather musty smelling doe, "That takes our confirmed number of death down to four. Fledgestone and Cowslip didn't make it back."
He turned his head to look back towards the warren openings before returning his attention to the does again. A few more rabbits had ventured out, but he couldn't see the chief or captain yet. A bit too early perhaps. He decided to take some time to make sure Moonsong was all right, but Harebell's return needed to be dealt with too.
"You should go find Bracken-rah or the captain as soon as possible," he decided, "Might be better if you reported directly to them. It can probably wait until morning silflay, but no longer than that. Just seek out the first one of them you see, or find me or any other Owsla and we’ll take you to one of them. You're not hurt, are you?"

Harebell seemed just as shocked at the news as any other rabbit who had been told the day the other's returned, and she was also saddened. She remembered seeing Fledgestone being chased by the dog, and how kind Cowslip had been to her. She looked away, unsure she could deal with such a rush of emotion. Especially as Moonsong would have much more an opinion on the matter.
"I.. I am very tired. I. . . Yes. I will get some needed rest, i feel." She replied softly, moving to head off, hesitantly. "I wish you both well. May frith be with you, even if he cannot be seen."
With that, she sadly hopped to the nearest route down into the burrows, and found herself her home to rest the night. She'd be sure to find one of the superiors in the morning.
