It was a gorgeous, bright morning. Cameron bleaker took the stairs to the roof two by two, moving gracefully. Today he was going to start his morning run with a leap from the roof of the dorm building to the lower roof of a nearby hall that housed classrooms. Cam loved his morning runs. They were what kept him going, the only reason he saw worth getting out of a nice warm bed. School certainly wasn't a motivator, although food often was. But not like running. Especially not like the kind of running he did.

Cam couldn't remember jumping this roof before, which seemed strange. He'd been at Barren Pines forever, surely he'd have thought of this beforehand? Nevermind. He was there! He reached out to open the door to the roof... only to find it tragically locked.

Dejectedly, the dark boy slid back down the stairs before getting hit with another brilliant idea. Taking the door to the third floor dorms, he picked a door at random and then knocked. It was early, the inhabitant was likely still asleep. This thought didn't really register, though. If Cam was up, everyone else should be too as far as he was concerned.

At the age of nine, Giselle had tried to learn how to sleep with her eyes open.

She had not been afraid of monsters, but of Vikings, after a particularly gruesome documentary about their raids that her father had made her watch. Vikings could attack at any given time. The only way to make them hesitate was to make them think you already knew they were there.

Her endeavours had been less than successful, but instead she slept incredibly lightly. Anything could startle Giselle from sleep to alertness in a moment, and despite the fact she was no longer afraid of vikings, it was a habit she was unable to break. Thus, when the knock came, she was up in moments and glancing at the clock.

Only one person she knew would knock on her door at 6 in the morning. "Elke." she muttered exasperatedly, putting on a robe. More loudly, she said "Yes?" and opened the door to find...

Unless Elke had gone through radical plastic surgery, that was not her. Eyeing the boy at the door suspiciously, she clutched her robe a little tighter. Students sometimes came to her for history help, but usually at a seasonable hour of the day. "May I help you with something?" she asked curtly, trying to make it clear that it was six o' clock AM, she was in nothing but a robe, and he was not welcome here right now.

Running was the most important facet of Cameron's life. But girls followed close behind. He loved girls. Girls of all shapes and sizes and colors. He loved their hair and the way they smelled - he didn't like their tendency to get jealous when they found out that his love for the distaff gender was so big that he couldn't confine it to just one girl. So when a pretty girl opened the door to the room, dressed only in a robe, Cameron's face split into a broad white grin. This was looking like it had the potential to be the best morning ever.

"Good morning." He beamed at Giselle. "I was wondering if you had a window that..." He peered over her shoulder and his grin widened impossibly. "Oh, sweet! Your window overlooks the roof next door! Can I use it? I'm Cam, by the way."

She was hit with a wall of cheerfulness, and at this hour of the day, Giselle was simply not ready to reciprocate. She had stayed up late beating Conquest Mode in Age of Kings and talking to Tate, and that left her tired and somewhat snappish. To make matters worse, her hair was down, and no one had seen her hair down since she had arrived at Barren Pines (At some point in her life?) She was in a State, and whatever state it was, it was no state to deal with a surprise attack of cheerful window-using men.

"Pardon? Use my window?" His introduction was ignored, as she wasn't quite sure if he was sane or real yet, and she made it a point to only give out information about herself to people who seemed to be both. "What for? Will you give it back after?" As far as favours went, it was an odd one, so rather than say 'No' outright and shut the door, she was willing to listen for a little longer. Despite her unwillingness to be bothered with this very Elke-ish situation at this very early hour of the day from someone who was not, in fact, Elke, her curiosity was piqued.

"Yeah. Your window." Cam often forgot that not everybody's world revolved around the questionable stunts he performed on a daily basis. He also seemed to have trouble reconciling himself to the fact that very few people jumped out of third story windows with the intent of living through it. "See," he started to explain, easing himself past her door uninvited. "Your window looks out over the roof next door. It's just the right height, too." He grinned. "The door to the roof of our building is locked." He added.

It took a moment for him to realize that his rambling made no sense to this girl. Slowly, he gave her the layman's version. "I want to jump out of your window. Please." He added the please for good measure.

She was tempted to let him try as he barged his way into the room, her room, but it would look too much like murder.

"I think..." she said carefully, trying to advance on him so he'd have to back up closer to the door, "I think you might want to consider this. School is not so hard as to kill yourself, I do quite well in school with just a little effort. Though your desire to jump out a window suggests that perhaps you may not be as well-adjusted as me, you got into the school, therefore you must be able to handle it." And, since she was best friends with Tate, she added "And if it's some sort of romantic problem, I've read that these things tend to sort themselves out, anyway."

She ran a hand through her hair. "At least jump out your own window if you really must kill yourself. Heavens know it's too early in the morning for me to be involved in any such sordid affairs."

Cameron snorted with laughter, a rather undignified sound. "Well, you know, you could solve all of my romantic problems with a crook of your little finger." He grinned at her. There was never an inappropriate time to flirt as far as Cam was concerned.

"But I can't jump out my own window. I'm on the first floor. Anyways," he crossed her room with total disregard for her personal space and peered out of the window in question. "I'm not interested in killing myself. I'm interested in getting from this building to the roof of that building next door. See? If I jump out of your window I can easily land over there, assuming I get a good running start."

Giselle ignored this obvious come on, as relationships were for people who had nothing better to do and for people who were as dashing and capable as Henry V. The only dash that "Cam" seemed to be capable of was a dash into her personal space and out the window.

"Well," she said, considering his second proposal. If he could do it, it would be impressive, but if he couldn't, she would certainly have some explaining to do. But at this point, it looked like it would be the easiest way to get him out of her room either way, so she crossed over to her desk and grabbed a piece of paper, scribbling furiously in her slanting cursive before handing it to him.

"Sign here, in case you miss. It's your funeral, I suppose."

Reading the paper, one scarred eyebrow raised. "Well aren't you thorough?" He asked, the amiable grin never leaving his face. He signed the paper with a flourish and handed it to her with a little bow, going over to her window and opening it wide, testing the width and depth of it, sticking his head out to gage the distance for his jump, the temperature, the windspeed.

"Since it might be my funeral, won't you at least tell me your name?" He asked, his voice full of absolute confidence in himself and his ability to make the jump. This was his great talent, after all. The art of movement that seemed more like flying than running.

"I try my best." said Giselle almost wryly, stepping aside as he stuck his head out the window.

"Survive, then we'll talk." was her curt dismissal. This was all ridiculous, whether he intended to or not, and if he was dumb enough to do it and didn't make it, he didn't deserve to know her name. If he made it, he was either talented or lucky, and then she might be prevailed upon to tell him. Now that it seemed like he was actually going to jump, she was interested, and she sat down to watch. "I'm waiting then, Cam."

If he was bluffing, all he deserved was icy silence for wasting her time and notepaper.

For her benefit rather than his own, Cameron did a few small preliminary stretches and then backed into the hallway. He would need some kind of running start to make it the full distance.

"Nice knowing you." He grinned at her, and then he ran.

It was a thing of beauty, Cameron in motion. He transformed almost instantly from lazy, cheerful insolence to a zen-like, focused energy. He swept through her room, raising his arms above his head and executed a dive directly out of her window. The distance should have been impossible. Would have been to someone who hadn't trained at parkour, perfecting it since he was a child.

He hit the neighboring roof and rolled, dispelling some of the energy. When he stood up his whole face was alight with pleasure. Turning to where Giselle watched, he executed a cheeky bow towards her window.

If she hadn't been fully awake before, Giselle was definitely awake now.

Rushing over to the window, she looked at him bowing to her on the roof with utter disbelief. No normal human should have been capable of that jump, right? Not that she often watched sporting events, but it was simple science. Right?

Even after all these years at Barren Pines, people still managed to surprise her. Either way, Cam was more worthy of attention than she thought he was, however he had done it, and so she stuck her head out and shouted "Giselle! Petrova!" He may have started out as an annoying intruder, in fact, he was still an annoying intruder, but the difference was that now had proved his acquaintance was worth something.

The smile on Cam's face when she shouted her name broke like a sunrise and he gave her another bow. "Nice to meet you, Giselle Petrova!" He shouted back, standing a little taller for the hard-won attentions of a pretty girl.

Then, with another impudent bow, he turned and started running, soon dissapearing over the far side of the building wall.
