It was just one of those days, where Melinda was wishing she never got out of bed. Maybe it was just because she didn't sleep well, or the fact that from the moment she woke up everything was going bad. Whatever it was, she just wanted the day to end.
Looking down at her flute case, she was grinding her teeth together as she sat on the public bus heading for downtown. Or all the things to break, it had to be her flute. Stumbling around this morning, she didn't realize she left it out on the ground until she heard that snap. The poor snapping of one of the keys off the body of her flute. It was the start to her bad day. She had a feeling it was only going to get worse from there on. Now if she hadn't been right, she would have been alittle happier.
Stepping off the bus, she winces as a random stranger behind her brushes past her to continue walking. Rubbing at her side, she frowns for a brief moment as she looks around. This was going to be like finding a needle in hay stack.
"I really should have gotten some directions." she mentally cursed herself for not thinking ahead. Her only thoughts were on getting her flute repaired and fast.
Brushing her hands over her jeans, she slips one into her pocket as she makes her way through the crowded sidewalk. Her dark green eyes scanning over the shop windows, in hopes that maybe she would spot a musician shop.
She been walking for clearly an hour, with no prevail. So now here she was, sitting at the local cafe. Her flute case on the table, while a small English tea in between her hands. A small sigh slipping between her lips as she lifts the tea to them.
"Really should have gotten directions."

Today was a very casual day for Howl. More so than usual. Though he and Franz had left the Hillworth campus together, today was a day when they went their separate ways. Franz had not mentioned where he was going, but he had plans apparently. Howl, on the other hand, had stopped at a local plant nursery and purchased some bare basic daisy seeds for his room, and now was merely waiting for Franz to show up at the cafe.
Now was a good time to play the infamous game of people observation. Howl wore a plain sweater, slacks and a scarf, though the scarf had been removed for sitting now in the cozy little cafe. As he sipped upon his Earl Gray and noticed how the girl at the table across the way seemed very miserable. Her gentle, yet disappointed sighs were evident from where he was at, and her face seemed to exude concern. For a moment, the effeminate lad glanced back towards the door, double checking that Franz was nowhere in sight, then back to the girl.
It was always a pity to see such a lovely face (though not nearly as lovely as his own) looking so concerned. It would eventually bring unwanted wrinkles around the eyes if she worried too much. In hopes of assisting her, the long haired lad stood up and made his way over.
"Miss, I could not help but notice you from across the way. Is something the matter?" Though it might have seemed like a female had approached this blonde girl, Howl's voice was enough to disprove any theories of that variety.

Melinda was so distraught over forgetting the directions, she hadn't notice Howl walk up, or even standing at her table. It was his voice that pulled her out of her misery for a brief moment. Lifting her head, her emerald eyes register shock for a moment. Wait she thought she heard a male voice? Opening her mouth, she closes it as she looks over his features for a moment.
It took her a moment to realize she was staring. Looking away, she chews on her bottom lip as she mentally pokes herself. She shouldn't have been staring, as that was rude. Taking in a slow deep breath, she finally looks back at him as she nods alittle "I came downtown to look for a musician shop that does repairs." leaning forward alittle, she pops her case open.
Pulling her western concert flute out, she sighs as she looks to the body of it. There was a hole showing, where a key should be. With her other hand, she lifts the small medal plate up "I stepped on it this morning, getting out of bed. So I was hoping to get it fixed. But I forgot to look up directions, so I have no clue as to where I'm going."

The rather beautiful lad smiled a kind smile, as if silently trying to reassure this new girl that he was quite used to such a reaction. Staring, the awkward gaping of the mouth, the occasional BLUNT imbecile who pointed out the fact that Howl was in fact, a male who looked like a female (though not in such polite words). He had seen it all. The girl's reaction was commonplace, but at the same time, that didn't take away from how adorable she pulled it off.
Perhaps it was a bit cruel, but he had already 100% analyzed her looks and decided that, though cute, she most certainly was not his physical type. It was such a curse to be so beautiful, for that meant you were only pleased with beauty equal or greater than your own.
When the girl offered her instrument of choice forward, he looked it over as if he actually knew how to appreciate the instrument. Where as, he could appreciate the craftsmanship, that was about where his ability to admire an instrument ended. He had no musical talent whatsoever, much to his mother's disappointment.
"That is a pity about your flute, Miss," he said in the sincerest of fashions. He didn't want to impose, so he did not sit down.

Setting the flute back into its case, Melinda nods alittle as she shrugs "Thanks, I'm not sure what I am going to do. I would prefer using my own flute for class, but if I don't find a shop. I may have no choice but to use one from the school." The thought made her cringe just alittle. Mind you, she figured they were clean, but she was use to her own flute.
Shaking her head, she stands as she holds her hand out towards him "Where are my manners? You come over here to help, and I don't even ask for your name. I'm Melinda Reese." she gives him a gentle smile as she introduce herself to him.

This time around, there was no Franz to worry about in regards to how Howl treated a lady. The last time the two were at the cafe together and a girl was there, Howl had restrained himself solely so Franz would not get the wrong idea about his intentions. A handshake was a plenty good introduction, but it was far from what ladies deserved in greeting most time.
So when this Melinda Reese offered her hand for a handshake, he took it with his right hand, curling his fingers around her fingers and lifted them slightly from the handshaking level. He lowered his head down and planted a gentle kiss upon her pointer finger knuckle. Lifting his head up and lowering his hand down to release the girl's fingers, he finally responded with his own greeting.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Reese. My name is Howl Wickham." He smiled politely and seemed to make no issue of the fact he just kissed the girl's hand. Where he had been raised, it was a perfectly appropriate introduction greeting for a girl from a boy. It just symbolized that he respected the girl.
As the moment had passed, he then turned towards a particular desk in the cafe. His tone would be informative and polite as he suggested "Perhaps you should try asking the owners of this facility for possible directions? I am not very familiar with this city as well. I have learned a great deal in my time here, but I am still quite clueless about all of the shops in the area. I am certain the owners are much more familiar with the area than myself."

Melinda's eyes widen just alittle as Howl's lips brush over her knuckle. With a smile, she place her hand behind her back as she bows her head alittle "A pleasure to meet you Howl." a well manner male, now that wasn't something she saw everyday. If anything, she was expecting him to be looking her over, maybe even try to sneak a peek down her shirt. The kiss, and the manners were actually really nice.
It was a change to say the least.
Glancing towards the desk, her smile turns slowly into a frown. Now why hadn't she thought of that earlier? Oh yea, she was to busy moping over the fact she forgot direction.
Looking up at Howl, rather embarrassed, she lifts the hand that was behind her back to her hair "Yea, guess I should have done that sooner. If you excuse me for a moment." slipping past Howl, she makes her way over to the counter.
With a sincere smile, she nods in a polite manner as she explains her problem to the owner. The man simply smiles to her before he pulls out a paper. With emerald eyes on the paper, the owner starts drawing out a map for her.
Holding it up to her, he chuckles "There you go young lady. That should help you out." taking the piece of paper, Melinda bows her head again as she grins "Thank you so much."
Turning, she makes her way back to Howl. I spring in her step as well as a rather pleasant smile on her face. It would appear that her upset nature before, was now indeed gone.

As the girl got up and approached the establishment's owner in regards to her dilemma, Howl stood there politely and waited for her to return. Unfortunately, he still had not been invited to join her at her table, which seemed a bit odd to him, but this was no time to make an issue of it. He remained standing there in the fashion a soldier would, but with a polite smile on his face the whole time. The girl soon enough began to head back towards her table. She most certainly seemed to be a different girl now, with her features no longer being burdened by worry.
As a polite inquiry, he asked "I take it things went well for you?"

With a nod of her head, Melinda moves back to her chair "Yes, and I have some time. Seems its right around the corner." nodding towards the other chair she looks back up to Howl "Would you like to join me?" she wasn't in a hurry anymore, and Howl seem like a nice guy. So she figured she sit and talk for alittle.
Not to mention, she still couldn't get over how polite he was. It was strange, and yet she was finding it nice. "So your new here too? Did you come here for school, or did your family move here?" an obvious answer, yes, but it still needed to be asked. For all she knew, he could be out of school.
After all, it was hard to tell how old people were around the city. She herself mistaken people for older, when they were really younger.

Ah, the appropriate invitation to sit down. This was exactly what Howl had been looking for as he kindly uttered "Thank you, Miss Reese. I would be delighted."
Pulling out the chair on the opposite side of Melinda, he sat himself down, then scooted in his new seat in. His posture was absolutely pristine, without a hint of slouch at all. Folding his hands up politely in his lap, he proceeded with the conversation.
"I am not very new, but I am still adjusting to this new city. It has been maybe two months now I believe since I moved here." Here he paused thoughtfully, thinking of how to address the next question. "I suppose you can say that I came here for the school, since my parents still live elsewhere." He remained vague for a reason. He did not exactly want to confess that he was a student from Hillworth. Even being in Meadowview was better than this Hillworth facility, despite how atrocious the uniforms were. How did public schools get away with such hideous outfits?
Hoping to not let the girl dwell too long over the subject of his schooling, he asked "So, aside from playing the flute, what else do you do to entertain yourself in your spare time?"

So he family was else where, just like her own. She wanted to ask him which school he went to, until he asked her his own question. Crossing her legs, she rest her arms on the table in front of her "Bike riding, reading, hanging out at the local park, and watching soccer." reaching for her cup of tea, she lifts it to her lips to take a sip from it.
Setting it down, she turns it just alittle before she pulls her fingers away from it "So if you don't mind me asking, how far did you travel to get here? I'm from England myself." she debates for a moment, trying to figure out where he might be from. But after a moment, she couldn't decide. He was alittle hard for her to read for the moment.
But she found that rather interesting.

Showing the girl that he was listening, he nodded his head politely at each activity she listed. It had a very respectable range from intellectual to physically fit. It was curious that she enjoyed watching soccer rather than playing it, but then again, he supposed that it was probably like a majority of the population who preferred spectator sports.
Rather notably, he seemed to gain even more interest at the mention of England. "That is quite interesting, Miss Reese. My parents are both from England. They moved out here before I was born though. Or rather, one city over before I was born." He smiled and casually took a glance at the girl's tea cup. She seemed to be familiar with basic tea etiquette.
"Miss Reese, do you still practice tea time out here?"

With a chuckle, she eyes her cup of tea for a moment. She hadn't really thought about it. Ever since she left England, she had a cup of tea every day just at tea time. Looking up at Howl, she slips her hands into her lap as she focused her eyes on his face "Yes, actually I do. I guess you can say old habits don't die, even when you so far from home."
Brush her fingers through her hair for a moment, she lifts her cup of tea to her lips again "What part of England is your parents from?" sipping the tea once more, she sets it back down. Her fingers linger only for a moment before she rest her hand on the table.

With the same level of formality as one would have on an interview, but also maintaining the level of friendliness as an attention seeking cat, he continued on the conversation. "One cannot deny that a proper cup of tea can soothe your nerves." It was about this time that he recalled his cup of tea at the other table. He was quite a polite lad though, and despite the desire to take a sip of his beverage of choice, he waited it through. It was not everyday you mean an English woman out in this area.
"My parents moved around quite a bit, from district to district for business reasons. Father always mentioned that he and mother felt most at home in London though. I have visited for vacation on occasion, but I can not say it is the same as living there."

Nodding in agreement, Melinda taps the table for a moment with her nail "I would have to agree with you, and after this morning. A cup of tea was a perfect way to sooth my nerves." glancing down at her cup, she chews on her lip before she looks back up "Would you like a cup also? I could get you one." she felt bad that she was the only one enjoying a cup of tea at the moment.
London, a beautiful city in which she visited often back home. It brought a smile to her lips as she thinks of Old Vic. With a chuckle, she found it was nice to know another who was from England "I'm from Cirencester, in the Cotswold District."
