Name: Aurelia Amelia Thorne
Nicknames: Rel
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Fav. Food: Sweet Potato Pie
Hated Food: Lamb
Gift: #2 Pencil is #1 -- From a scholarly point of view, Aurelia is a fabulous test taker-- anything less than 100% has never been received by this particular student, though her grades are appalling; she rarely hands anything in. Aurelia is sort of flippant when it comes to her schoolwork. All that really matters is that she can spew out her textbook by rote. Ultimately, at the end of the day, Aurelia's test taking skills mean she's going to KILL at the SATs.
Hobbies:
My Little Black Book: -- Part planner, part notebook, Aurelia's entire life revolves around her little black book. Everything is in it, from her and Miss Barrett's personal schedules, to gossip and tidbits and information that she has heard and doesn't want to forget. She loved Harriet the Spy as a kid, and never understood the issue of having things written down, though she takes care not to put her own spin on things. She does not desire to be publicly lynched.
2 Across: A type of wrench: -- Aurelia loves crosswords. She will read an entire newspaper to get to the crossword, feeling profound guilt if she goes straight to it. She tried buying just crossword books for a time, she has some very pretty ones, but it's just not the same. The newspaper is like wrapping paper on her daily present. Besides, she feels far more accomplished and far more willing to take a few moments out of her busy life to conduct an activity that is completely and totally a hobby and simply pleasurable for her-- if she punishes herself first by reading the entire newspaper from front to back, obituaries to the funnies to the want ads; even sports, though she sort of blanks out when reading that section.
Accessorize THIS: -- See Aurelia. See Aurelia buy the new Louis Vuitton purse. Aurelia is a person who is definitely concerned with appearance, and especially the appearance of wealth and power. She is, and though this pains her to admit it, a child of wealth and prosperity, the stereotypical Crystal girl. Her allowance is ridiculous, large sums from both her separated parents weekly, transferred in to her bank account, just begging her to buy Chanel cardigans and Tiffany necklaces. Aurelia tends to abstain for long periods, and then has to take a hit from the boutiques. She runs through money like it's water, but she's such an upstanding, mature student that her parent's don't really mind. She's spoiled, really spoiled, but doesn't do drugs or go on sex binges so her parents don't see any harm in it. Her parents did move back the time of her inheritance until their death; they aren't stupid.
Virtues:
Let's Stick with the Plan -- Aurelia has perfect attendance, keeps her promises, has habits so ingrained that you could practically set your watch by her-- it's not that she isn't flexible (she'll crossly mutter at you while she scribbles in the new schedule, but she WILL change it) it's just that she feels remarkably responsible to keep things smooth, to stop arguments before they happen. To her, if there is a mutually agreed upon plan, stupid heroic motions are just going to get you stupid heroicly killed.
Black and White-- This ain't no Ebony and Ivory. There is a right, and there is a wrong, and the grey area in between is just people being confused. Aurelia can't be silent about her beliefs, is outspoken in a generally catty way and is not so much about debating things with you than to get you to see things her way. She feels she is very "reasonable" but it's more that she has a heightened sense of reason that doesn't actually work in the real world. Even when wrong, she has a really hard time backing down, and tries to move the conversation back in to the areas she knows the most about, if only to prove that she at least knows what she's talking about. It's an annoying habit when you were just having a pleasant debate about organized religion and Aurelia runs in like a screaming harpy. But it is a boon for those that have been visibly or emotionally slighted as Aurelia will butt her nose in to fight your battles for you.
Hmmm, Why Do I Have This Spare Coat?--
My left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing -- Aurelia is secretive to the point of being crippling. She does not feel comfortable around ANYONE, not even Hero; she's begun to realize that she tries so hard to please Hero that she doesn't even know who she is anymore. No one asked her to, no one expects it of her, and while she is content to do whatever is asked of her, she does question her actions, she questions who she is all the time. She doesn't even know anymore, can't even fathom where she went down this path, is not even comfortable in her own skin. She over-thinks EVERYTHING and anything, running through the day in her mind while she tosses and turns and tries to figure out why she feels so empty. Aurelia has scheduled (or sucked) the fun out of everything that she has done for years now.
Flaws:
Righteous Anger: -- Aurelia can handle little spurts of anger, like the anger she gets when Hero changes the schedule willy nilly; it's Hero, she has her reasons. Aurelia can handle these feelings with aplomb and silence, unwilling to crack her facade. But Aurelia cannot handle people doing or saying things that she disagrees with, especially when it concerns people that she likes. She flies in to a rage, screams at people, tries to get people to see reason-- her reason. Just because it is her opinion it doesn't make it RIGHT. Aurelia has a tendency to categorize things very black and white, very much right and wrong, and not at all someone who is very understanding. If you do something wrong, you've done something WRONG, regardless of your reasoning. She can't leave things well enough alone, and interjects herself in to situations that she has absolutely no business in.
Backburner -- Aurelia prioritizes her life so effectively that she has prioritized herself right out of it. Aurelia lives her life for the sake of others, for marks and for Miss Barrett-- her life revolves around the girl, and it's a bit sick. Even Aurelia has started to realize that no one her age does the sort of thing she does, even Hero mentioned it (while pulling her hair and getting in a fight in the showers). The girl is HUNG UP, has decided that Miss Barrett can do no wrong, has put her on such a high pedestal that it's unfair to the both of them, and is just destroying their friendship at an alarming speed.
Nosy -- She really can't help herself, Aurelia has to know who's in, who's out, who's together forever, and who broke up five minutes ago. Most of the time, the information she gathers is of absolutely no use. But sometimes, she can and will use the information she has gathered for ill-natured barbs to boys and girls that she perceives to be distracting Miss Barrett. Jude Lawson felt the brunt of her dislike, and it has completely backfired on Aurelia. It went badly, extremely so, and she now feels at least somewhat responsible for his death, though logically it was his decision to give her his henshin pen. She feels admonished and bad and unclean-- she's started to realize that some secrets need to be respected, and she's found out that she respects few people. She didn't even respect her best friend enough to be the sort of friend she needed, and she's appalled at her own behaviour.
Lonely -- Being friends with Miss Barrett since childhood has made Aurelia complacent and safe; she doesn't feel that she needs to work at making more friends because her single best friend is enough. And then they sort of "broke up" over a boy and Aurelia realized that she had no one and has antagonized practically her entire class from looking at her as anything other than Miss Barrett's shadow. Without Miss Barrett, she's nothing; no one. She's desperate to regain her friendship, desperate to try with the other Zodiacs, with her Princess, people that have to at least give her face time. She's thankful of her unique position to have people that have to give her at least the time of day because of their past together, but understands that most don't really want to give her anything other than that. She is struggling to make amends with Hero-- and is going to try her damndest to make amends with everyone else.
