It was a rare sight to see Topher Coral so completely alone as he walked through the courtyard, muttering quiet loudly to himself. The sports hall was completely full of people. There was no room to practice any sort of game with all the orientations and tryouts going on around him.

The frustrated teen kicked at the heavy cue at the bottom of his practice stick with each step, recounting an entire game in his head from start to finish. "Maybe I should have ...no..no...that wouldn't have worked either," he sighed heavily, unscrewing the cue twirling both ends between his fingers. "Eh. I guess it doesn"t really matter right? I mean, I did the best I could that time, right? Just gonna use this as another lesson in the mind games of billiards!...yep."

For the first time in a long while, he was actually bored. It wasn't like there was much else to do at the time with all the new people arriving and he just needed to keep his legs moving and his mind working as he wandered about aimlessly.
"Man, I'm bored. Really bored," he grumbled to the disjointed pool stick in his hands, "There's nothing to do and with all these people here. I thought freshmen would care more about their elders but nooooooo. They just have to run around and look at the school and stuff like that without even stopping to say hi? Yeesh! I don't think I acted that way when I was whatever age they are."

Topher shrugged and continued on his way, swinging his arms dramatically as he reacquainted himself with his surroundings.

Cadenza was, in short, furious. She had been on her way to the music rooms, cello case strapped to her back, intent on getting in some not exactly needed, but certainly wanted practice, and... each and every room had been full! Even the large one that she usually attended-- the biggest chance of an audience, after all-- and not a single seat in the house! Auditions and such, ha! Since when did they take precedence over established musicians? She scoffed to herself, and flipped a lock of wheat blonde hair over her shoulder, seeking out a relatively quiet place in the courtyard for her practice. She absolutely refused to stay cooped up in her room on such a day. And with so many people around... Who was she to deny them her music?

Shouldering her cello case as she moved, she paused, seeing a mop of blue amongst the green of the courtyard. An audience already? Not a wandering freshman, either, Cadenza noted as she moved forward. Someone she'd seen in the hallways and around, especially in the sporting rooms. Ah, yes, the billiards boy, she realized, by the look of the two halves of a pool stick in his hands.

"I didn't mean to interrupt," she said, flashing a dimpled smile. "Are you talking to someone, or could I possibly join in on the conversation?" Cadenza was always up for making a new acquittance-- hopefully he had a Facebook so her friend count could benefit from this chance meeting.

Topher was blissfully unaware of anyone in his general area, only focusing on what he was saying, until a voice completely interrupted his thoughts ans concentration.

"WHAT THE--?!" Without a second thought, he stumbled back, pulling up his arms in a quick defensive position. He hoped to high heaven that this wasn't some weird transfer prank and people would jump out, have a good laugh and leave him there just as confused as he was from the start. Moving past the initial moment of shock, Topher quickly realized that this wasn't a prank at all. In fact, it was just a girl. A girl that was terribly familiar. His eyes quickly darted to the cello case and it all seemed to click. No wonder she was familiar. He'd seen her whenever he passed the music room. It all made sense now!

He couldn't do anything else but laugh, shaking out his shoulders as his body finally loosened up. "No. Not interrupting me or anything but you should get a bell. You're going to kill someone sneaking up on them like that! What are you doing out here anyway? Shouldn't you be practicing? I always see you by the music room with your cello. Unless they've taken over the music room too? I mean, what are they gonna take over next after the cafeteria? The world?"

The whole school must have been overrun by now. Great...that meant much less time to practice until people started getting cut from teams. This is going to be tiring few weeks. He could feel it in his bones. Of course, he wasn't going to make the transfer students completely ruin his chance to finally talk to someone decent and familiar. Might as well have some sort of small talk to pass the time.

"Is it alright if I ask you your name? I always pass by you but I've never actually said hi or anything..."

Excitable, wasn't he? Shifting her cello case to the rest on the ground since it seemed like she'd be there for a while-- which was perfect, considering the newbies going through orientation were overrunning the school-- Cadenza kept her winning smile in place as she stuck out her hand for a shake, intent on making a good first introduction and impression, as she always is. She tries to recall his name but just can't. He's right, they really never have spoken which, given the close quarters of Barren Pines, was... odd, and clearly something that needed to correct as soon as possible.

"A bell? I suppose I could find a hair clip with one," she said, touching the light pink ribbon in her hair. "I don't think I'm all that unnoticeable though," she said, a slight pout threatening to ruin that pretty smile on her mouth. "Especially since I'm toting this around," she added, giving a pat to the cello case now on the ground. "I suppose I should have dropped it back off in my room, but I didn't want to trek up all those stairs with it only to find that there's a place free for practice, y'know? Might as well just keep it on me." She pauses in her chatting for a moment, and then laughs.

"Oh, silly me, where are my manners!" She extends her hand, dimples back in show as she smiles broadly. "Of course it's alright for you to ask me my name, silly! I'm Cadenza, Cadenza De Luca. I must apologize, I'm not sure what your name is either, though I certainly recognize your face. I never forget faces." With her free hand, Cadenza reaches into the pocket of her skirt, pulling out her cell phone and opening her web browser. "Do you have a Facebook? I can totally add you as a friend, if you do."

Shake hands? Topher hadn't shaken someone's hand in years. Either way, he didn't see any harm in the gesture. He eagerly accepted the gesture. "Gosh. It's been so long since I actually met someone who still shakes hands. I've always seen it as the polite thing to do but most people think you're just weird when you hold out your hand, ya know," he excitedly rattled on, blue eyes becoming that much more bright.

"Oh no. Bells are there to make sure their presence is acknowledged as it should rightfully be, not because said person is unnoticeable," he said in the sweetest voice he could muster to keep her spirits up. "I was simply too lost in my own passion to care about the world around me." Topher emphasized the statement by gently tapping the end of his cue against his temple. "It's a wonderful idea to keep your instrument on you. If the cello is your gift then it should be an extension of your person rather than something regularly left behind."

Topher chuckled and smiled widely. "I'm Topher Coral. It's a pleasure to finally know your name after all this time and yes, I do have a Facebook. Who doesn't?" It was the perfect tool to check up on whatever people were doing, after all

Cadenza gave his hand a firm shake, looking him in the eye as she did so. Shy was certainly something she would ever be accused of being. The cellist wrinkled her nose a bit and gave a laugh. "Really, people don't shake hands anymore? I always try to-- it makes a good impression, don't you think? A good way to look someone in the eye and make sure they remember you, if you ask me." The girl wasn't above rambling either, especially when it was about herself.

She seemed to consider his words as she withdrew her hand, folding them in front of her, tilting her head and finally giving a nod. "You know, I do believe that you're right about the bell. I should give home a call..." Cadenza trailed off for a moment, thinking, before offering another bright smile. "Thank you so much for the suggestion, Topher." With her now free hands, she quickly tapped his name into her phone, finding his Facebook rather easily. "Perfect, I just sent you a friend request, and I expect you to accept it, mister." She shook a finger at him playfully.

"So, I guess it's safe to assume that since you're carrying a pool stick, you play pool?" She raised both her eyebrows. "Unless it's for like... self defense?" Cadenza gave a small giggle and rolled her eyes at herself. "Not likely, right? So, anyway, are you any good or do you just carry it around to look cool?"

Topher shook his head and laughed. "No. It's fine. Thank you for finally giving me someone to talk to today. It's been crazy around here."

At the mention of Facebook ominous storm clouds and a well placed lightning bolt would have been appropriate. "Of course I'll add you as a friend. You took the time to look me up and all. It would be so rude to not return the favor don't you think? I mean, I hate it when people just leave friend requests sitting there. Either reject them or add them I always say. There shouldn't be an awkward gray area," he said matter-of-factly, crossing his arms over his chest. "That's just not acceptable at all." Well, at least he didn't think it was. There were probably people who let requests hang in the balance but he made sure everyone he tried to friend actually friended him.

His face lit up once again at the mention of pool. "Why yes, I do play. I've been champion quite a few times when I used to play normal pool. The whole reason I came here was to learn to play different types of pool. There's quite a few different games that I haven't tried yet...although," he looked over the blue cue as if it was the first time he held it," it could be a pretty good weapon if something suddenly jumped out of the bushes and it does look rather cool." Topher's eyes darted to the surrounding bushes just to make sure nothing was waiting for those exact words to attack before continuing.

"Same question to you about your cello. I figure that's not for self defense, yes?"
