So, has anyone had anothe rband be extremely rude to their band during a band festival? Post your stories here!
We had state last night, and we were second to last. well we are standing on the track cheering while we are waiting for the drum majors to come out for awards. We are all excited, we thought we did pretty good, and then a band from our area sitting in the stands behind us starte chanting overrated and pointing at us. We were really upset. They completely ruined all our fun. Then another band that is also from our town wouldn't cheer with us, which wasn't too bad. We kept saying "We have spirit, yes we do, we have spirit, how about you?" and they wouldn't do it. Oh well. The band that was being rude, chanting stupid stufff and pointing at us, got a good, and they are one of the better bands. None of us are sure if it is because they were ebing rude(the idiots were right next to the press box) or if they just had a bad performance. tehy looked upset as they were leaving.
Yeah, so on't be rude to another band. Your score might be lowered.
and it was funny, becuse we were the only trilingual band there. We were cheering in english, spanish, and german. We have an awesome german exchange student. She is cool, and is a really good flute player. ot too bad of a marcher, but that could use some work. She likes to teach us german and has a thick accent.

Erugh. This reminds me of the time my school was at this other school for a band festival. Just when we were going up on stage, these three or four kid from this other school jump out at my school's band and screws up the placement of the stands and chairs. Just right before we were going to perform, we had to re-place the chairs and stands in the correct area. So we ended up wasting 5 minutes of playing time. AND the kids who screwed up our setting area, THEIR BAND DIRECTOR DIDN'T EVEN GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT THE DID. I mean what the heck! That's not very nice! [/end rant]

A few years ago, another school's band mooned us. It wasn't even our rival school; they were just snobs.
I had an opposite-of-rudeness experience at a competition this year, though. We were accepting awards on the field, and we do an in-time clap after a countoff of 4 beats. The band next to us had the same countoff, and our DM is cool, so it went something like this: Other band: "1, 2, 3 , 4!" Our band: "...5, 6, 7, 8!"

can't say i've ever did it. we weren't even allowed to cheer and yell if we won. just politely clap. you are allowed to cheer for other band you know, but to our BD it was rude to cheer for ourselves. i like it that way tho

We had an out of state trip this weekend, and our band hadn't made it to finals there since 2006. So we made it into finals, and everyone was incredibly happy. I was even crying. A lot of people were, that's how excited we were. Then this one girl behind us from a band that did REALLY well [I'm not going to lie, I knew they'd be getting first place from the time that they walked on the field. Their band kicked butt.] said "Wow...really?" In a snobby voice, implying that she thought it was pathetic because we were so excited. She was criticizing lots of the band even calling one "cute". I swear, she did a HORRIBLE job in representing her band.

Or at least keep their rude comments to themselves.

But still there are sportsmanships everybody should follow. If you wanna cheer for yourselves during awards that great, but I would slap every one that would trash talk a group that incites bad karma, plus in my opinion if you have to talk badly of a group... it's rather pathetic and you should look on how your own band is doing. Because that tells me they aren't as good as they think. My bd taught us to bite our tongue. If he got word of us trash talking etc.... it would be corporal punishment right there. Plus we'd all have a new hole. You represent your school and your city/ town. Do it in a respectful way and you'll get respect right back even if you guys don't get along

At the first two competitions we went to we had performed last and second to last in our divisions(both were the biggest divisions). Both time we stood on the track while we waited for awards. When we headed back all the other bands who were NOT in uniform or with instruments keep cutting and crowding around our band which WAS in uniform carrying instruments. It just ticked me off to no end, because they never cut through the band or crowd the band we we are walking over to take the field, but after awards it doesn't matter. We still had expensive instruments to carry that we didn't want damaged. I don't know how the tubas made it through the crowd.

our rival band has this big, blue, plastic santa. and for some reason, our band wants to steal if from them more than anything.
finally this year at one of our competitions, someone managed to grab it and run, which ended up causing half of our band and have of theres in a huge physical fight.. on the ground.. in full uniform.. on the competition field.
i thought it was extremely rude and uncalled for on both sides.
it was kind of funny at first, until people started throwing punches..

so at our tournament last week, i was on recycle and maintenence for BOTH shifts (who did i piss off?) anyway, i was in the stand, picking up trash, and one of the bands (i forget which one, they were in bright red though) had like mountains of trash on the ground. i'm looking at it, and i look at them. they just ignored me. then i stood in front of them and asked politely for them to pick up their trash when they leave. i couldn't get to the trash at that moment. then after the tournament was over, i go up and guess what i find? trash where they were sitting! candy wrappers, soda cans, nachos, plastic wrappers, you name it! PLZ PPL! PICK UP YOUR TRASH! IT IS VERY RUDE! WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR TRASH IN THE STANDS WHEN YOU KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE TO PICK IT UP, AND IT'S NOT EVEN YOURS???

Our band is good and you don't see us go around saying "oh our band is awesome!" leaves that to the parents! AND yes they are called competitions, but they are also called festivals, or they can also be called tournaments. it just depends.
