While the older kids were at school, it was mother-daughter bonding time for the youngest of the five. And, as is the norm when it came to outings in the fall for Stasia, a pumpkin patch was the location of choice. "Do you know what that is, Ae-bee?" Stasia asked, using the mixture-nickname of "Aesica Baby".

Aesica audibly sighed, looking at her mother. Was Mother stupid or something? Anyone with eyes could see it was a pumpkin. But, she couldn't say that to Mother.....she cared for the adult, even if she was a bit slow and, more often times than not, her meal. She tried to ignore the adult's gaze, but after a moment of realizing that the adult wouldn't relent, she made a couple of cooing sounds, throwing a "puh" in there. True, she was very confidant that she could just say "pumpkin" and get it over with, but then she'd be expected to talk all the time. Ugh, the complexities of being an infant.

"That's right, Ae-bee! It's a pumpkin! That's my girl!" Stasia said, grinning. Her baby was getting closer and closer to saying her first word! How exciting! She clapped her hands together, hoping to show her baby girl that she'd done a good job.

Giving her mother one last sympathetic look ("Aww, you really are that stupid." is what she wished she could say....), she crawled over to one of the taller pumpkins, using it to pull herself into a standing position. There, now, she could inspect it better, and get a better view of the patch while she was at it.

Needless to say, Azrael was in heaven as he prowled the pumpkin patch. His tail twisted so the pumpkin on the end floated above the actual plants. "So many choices..." he murmured, trailing a hand across the surface of the massive orange squash.

Only to quickly pull it back in surprise as a face suddenly appeared from the other side. "What the?!" he gasped and took a step back, flailing a bit as he lost his balance temporarily. With his wings flapping quickly and arms windmilling around, the demon managed to remain upright and not squish the pumpkin behind him that he considered to be more his friend than anything else.

"Nice, almost made me fall and crush that pumpkin," he grumbled, taking a step closer to the infant that stood with the help of the orange plant in hopes of possibly teaching her a thing or two about scaring people. It was only then that it occurred to him that she might not actually be able to talk and that yelling at a baby wasn't the smartest thing to do. Great.

A small giggle came from the infant, who found his flailing quite amusing. The amusement left her face, however, as soon as the boy's words reached her ears. She almost made him fall? Ha. She shook her head, then glanced to make sure Mother wasn't paying attention. She wasn't. Good. "Did not do anything." she said, enunciating each word. It wasn't her fault he jumped, was it?

She looked up at him, putting her poker face on. She silently sized up the boy; he definitely had the advantage since he could walk. Curse her little legs which refused to support her. She looked past him, to the near-victim of a pumpkin. "Is the pumpkin okay?" she asked, if only to humor the older boy. It wasn't like she was actually worried, no....she didn't care. Okay, maybe she cared a little, but he didn't need to know that.

Azrael stared at the little girl as she spoke. Babies couldn't talk! Or could they? Removing the traces of surprise from his face, the demon gave her a cool look. "Course you didn't, but yes, the pumpkin is alright for now at least," he replied and crossed his arms, silently appraising her. She looked like an infant, hell even SMELLED like one, but here she was and was talking to him.

"Who are you? I'm Azrael," he finally said, offering his name to the girl as he crouched down. He was careful to stay out of reach in case she was some sort of creature that wanted to eat him or something. Hey, one could never be too cautious.

Aesica offered a sweet little smile, easily slipping into the familiar act. "Aesica." she said, motioning to herself with one hand, her other hand planted firmly on the pumpkin in front of her. "Nice to meet....meet you, Azrael." she said, stumbling over her words a little and frowning at herself. Having your mind work faster than your mouth really sucked sometimes.

Azrael's precaution wasn't completely unfounded. In fact, it was probably a rather wise idea. Even now, her eyes weren't quite looking at him; instead, they were looking in the area right around him. Energy...hm. His looked interesting, to say the least. Not like anyone's she'd seen. Then again, she hadn't met anyone else who was purple. She moved closer, carefully inching her way around the pumpkin on her shaky legs. Curse her weak and stubborn legs! She smiled at him again; she had to keep up appearances, after all. "Why are you here?" she asked, curious.

Azrael remained crouched down and out of reach of Aesica, tail flicking irritably back and forth. It wasn't hard to understand why the poor toddler was so frustrated at figuring our what exactly was going on. It took the boy a couple of seconds to realize she had, indeed, asked him a question.

"What am I doing here? Is it not obvious that the great pumpkin demon would need pumpkins to make said Jack-O-Lanterns for his lair?" Azrael asked, flashing her an evil grin. Ah, oh how he loved boasting to others like his brother liked stealing things of value.

The boy raised an eyebrow at how shaky Aesica's walking was and how heavily the girl leaned on the pumpkin. "Having fun walking?" he teased, moving back a little to avoid some sort of attack if she tried anything in retaliation.

"Pumpkin demon?" Aesica asked, her interest perked. A small smirk flashed across her face; wasn't he an intriguing person? Though her amusement faded at his teasing. Dark blue eyes narrowed at him. Oh, thought that was funny, did he?

Her frown smoothed out into a small smile. "Why yes. I am." she replied, her tone sugary sweet, laced with venom. "Think I'm walking pretty...pretty well for my age." At least, that's what she kept telling herself. "Having fun backing 'way?" she asked, standing a little taller.

Orange eyes narrowed in return, darkening somewhat. "Yes, a pumpkin demon that can grant wishes, such as the power to walk to little girls such as yourself," he replied coldly, tail flicking back and forth. He wasn't exactly sure if such a wish would work at all, or if it would do the complete opposite and cause her to be unable to walk. His "wish" granting abilities were so frustrating some days.

"And fun isn't a word I would choose. Cautious is a better term," he continued, having already heard the venom underlying the sugary tone. Azrael didn't back up any farther, however, and instead flashed a pair of fangs as he grinned. He was hoping to get across a more demonic look instead of a scared one. The demon boy wasn't scared, per se, yet that uneasy and wary feeling was still there. Something dark definitely laid in wait under that sweet and innocent appearance.

Aesica smiled genuinely this time, letting out a little laugh. "I like you." she informed him, her tone suggesting that she was bestowing some great honor, like a queen bestowing the title of "Sir" or "Lady" to a knight. Which, to her, it was. Not very many people made a good enough impression to get the her "like you" list. A couple made it to the next-best list, "pets", but seldom did they make it to the first list.

"Wishes have prices. Mother's book....book said so." the raven haired child said, nodding once. "Cautious is good. You're smart. Not like the others." Thank the gods he wasn't like the other little ones; he had intelligence, and she appreciated that. She held one hand out to him, grinning. "Allies?" she suggested. Oh, what trouble they could cause together!

Azrael's grin widened further, though this time more friendly looking. Aesica was definitely on his 'ally' list. "Thank you, and yes, wishes from the almighty pumpkin demon need something in return in order t' work... as well as a bit of luck itself," he replied, muttering the last bit under his breath and hopefully quiet enough so that Aesica didn't hear.

"When you live with someone who finds it funny to wake you up at the crack of dawn just because they are up, you learn to be wary of those that seem to be more than they appear," he continued and took the offered hand while returning the grin. He recognized that grin, for he had seen it many times before. That dark grin paired with the option to be allies only meant one thing; chaos and fun.

Aesic smiled, giving her future partner-in-crime a handshake, sealing the deal. Oh, what mischief they would make together! Oh, just to think of it amused her. "Don't see how that's funny." she stated, shrugging as she thought of his family member. "Would bite if I were you." she said, offering her advice. Biting was a warning in her book; a warning to stop or risk further consequences. "Or eat their light; what ever works." By light, she meant energy. It hadn't occured to her yet that not everyone could see and eat it; to her, it was normal.

"She finds it funny and tha's all that matters apparen'ly." Azrael paused, wondering what would happen if he did bite Ary at Aesica's suggestion. She'd probably end up biting him back or something, which would be ten times worse than just enduring whatever she was doing previously. He had seen what she usually ate, and how she went about it. Ary could probably bite his hand off without blinking an eye.

"Wait... Eat their light? How? What light?" he asked, suddenly wondering about that as well.

"Weird." Aesica affirmed with a shake of her head. The child blinked, pausing a moment. How to explain it.... "You know, the light." she said, motioning to the area around Azael. "It's easy. You...you just hug them or touch them and eat. Easy." That was the best way she could think to explain it. "Makes people sl...sleepy." Which came in handy when a certain older sibling needed to shut up.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:02 pm

Azrael frowned, still not getting it. "I don't eat light around people. Wait, you talkin' about their... uh, aura? Can't see that either," he continued, finally figuring out a possibility as to why he had no idea what she was talking about and why she did.

"Yanno, perhaps tha's just a talent you have. Cause I can grant wishes, but my brother can't and he... he's a good thief. Maybe... Maybe you're th' only one that knows about their light or whatever," he explained, speaking slowly as he tried to explain what he meant. He probably sounded like a complete moron too.

"Aura..." Aesica repeated, drawing the word out a bit. She hadn't heard that term before, so maybe that was the word for it. She had no idea, to be honest. She'd ask someone other than Mother later. "Maybe." she said, shrugging. "Though, granting wishes more useful. "Can at least eat real food then, right?" That was one of the few drawbacks for the little raven-haired girl; she couldn't stomach any tangible food. No liquids, nothing.
