Ngaran was in one of his usual moods, though it was slightly better from having recently checked on his little vine. The tiny plant was flourishing well, and with luck, he might have the start to a miniature vineyard right there. He had stalked into the kitchen with his distinctive frown still on his face, some of those who knew his reputation shying away from him. He responded to that with a smile before trundling off to a table in the far corner, flopping into a chair with a sigh as he crossed his arms behind his head. Ngaran seemed to close his eyes, though he kept them cracked just in case, as he had learned to do, and just watched those in the kitchen go about their business.

There wasn't ever really at time when C'zha couldn't eat. Before wing practice, or after. Morning, afternoon, or night! The bronze rider was always hungry. Though, you'd never know by looking at him! One of the advantages of being a dragonrider was the constant physical work, leading him to be in excellent shape and health. But, FARANTH, the man could put away some food!

Currently, it was a bit before wing practice. He had some time to kill. Enbrieth was busy sunning himself and chatting with some pretty, about-to-rise green. C'zha wore a knowing smirk on his face; he felt the same feelings as Enbrieth did, and when his dragon felt so happy and hopeful, why would he try and tune it out? He sat at a table in the dining area, booted feet propped up on an unused chair in front of him, while he worked away at shoveling his second bowl of stew down. It was thick, hearty, hot stuff- with chunks of well-spiced meat, potatoes, and vegetables in a thick broth. It was delicious! Breaking off a chunk of bread from the half-loaf sitting on the table, C'zha eyed one suspicious looking fellow, alone at a table in the corner. judging by his shoulder knots, he was a candidate.. but he looked a bit unhappy to be here.

Weren't candidates usually happy at being given such an opportunity; being allowed to live at the Weyr, receive an excellent education, and the chance to impress a dragon?! Oh well. C'zha shrugged and turned back to his meal. Judging by the boy's sour expression, C'zha's meal was probably more interesting.

Oh, look, somebody new came in. This one wasn't marred with gray tiredness as many others in the kitchen were, and in fact, he seemed to glow with health and vivacity. A small smile curled the corners of Ngaran's still-frowning mouth, but he decided to play it low a little more, just to see what this one would do.

In the meantime, those slitted blue eyes were locked on C'zha, watching his every move quite eerily.

Okay, that was creepy. From over his bowl, the bronze rider could see the candidate eying him. With a small smile.. at the same time he was frowning? Wait, that didn't make sense. C'zha was concerned with the boy's outward expression. was there something wrong with him? Maybe he wasn't a candidate. Maybe he was a dimglow, who liked to fancy himself a candidate? Well, whatever the case, the boy wasn't showing the proper respect to a bronze rider, and tonight, that did not sit well with C'zha.

Staring was rude, especially at someone with significantly higher rank than yourself. The bronze rider was sorely tempted to stride over and give the boy a lesson in manners, but refrained. He wasn't done with his dinner yet. If the candidate kept staring, though.. well, C'zha would have no choice.

Well well well, looks like Ngaran was getting to the rider. He closed his eyes fully and relaxed a little more before the heavenly scent of a meatroll wafted by his nose, causing him to extend a hand in order to snag one off of a passing plate. Ngaran nodded to the startled kitchen maid by way of thanks and took a small bite out of the pilfered food. He straightened up and gave C'zha one last 'oh hey, you're still there' look before tearing into the meatroll, wolfing it down in very little time.

Eh, he was getting sick of waiting. Maybe he should go over there and actually say something? He looked like a rider, that was sure, but Ngaran didn't know what color he rode or who he was, and as a Candidate, he wasn't inclined to do anything that could cost him that position. Not after he had just gotten here, not later.

Alright, this was getting stupid. what in Faranth's name was his problem? He obviously could not be Weyrbred; his parents, biological OR foster, would have taught him better manners than that! C'zha was on the brink of abandoning his own manners and yelling something across the dining hall, but the smart a** candidate decided to choose that moment to cease his staring.

That made C'zha a little happier.

but the bronze rider was still uneasy as he looked away from the candidate and focused back on his meal. He had taken no more than a couple of bites of his stew before he felt eyes on him. Again. The bronze rider took a deep breath and slammed his spoon down on the table with an open palm, rattling the table right down to the floor. When he looked up, sure enough, the candidate was looking at him. From outside, the deafening, angry roar of a bronze dragon could be heard. Enbrieth. His rider was not happy, so neither was he. Ngaran would be wise to leave, and soon.
