"AUNT ELAIIIIINE!" Mora called at the top of her lungs. Her little paws carried her down the shoreline and she frowned when she got no response except a few retreating rustles in the underbrush. Mora had already tried going into the forest but she just got herself tangled in a bunch of vines and had to turn herself around and go right back to the river. This place was one huge maze and it was very frustrating when her Aunt wasn't nearby to meet her. How was Mora supposed to visit if Aunt Elaine wasn't going to be there? The pup glanced into the water to catch her purple-eyed reflection, and then looked back at the jungle as a large, loud bug flew by and startled her.

This was not working. Her mother had said that her Aunt Elaine lived here, but Mordariel didn't think her mother realized just how big this place was, especially to a pup. She stopped and tipped her head back, letting out the tiny, faltering howl of a puppy just learning to sing. She waited a moment for a reply, then shouted again.

"AUUUUN-TIE E-LAAAAIIIINE!"

Elaine's sister was only such in title; the jungle savage found that Rumathil was a bit too . . . whimsical at times. She seemed too lost in her own romanticised view of the world to notice how painfully dangerous it was to simply drop off her pup for a visit without previously notifying Elaine; or perhaps she trusted that gods-awful squirrel of hers. Nym was probably off chit-chatting with a pile of snow for all they knew. Elaine huffed at the simplicity of her sister and wondered how it was that her niece hadn't been killed yet because of it.

"Shush yourself," she chided, parting through the the wet foliage to lope to the girl. "I do not need less enviable creatures set upon you so early." Elaine always had a look of annoyance, a permanent scowl set about her muzzle which was equal parts beneficial and bothersome. For one, it did make others wary of her and less likely to incur her wrath, wom her respect from the cannibals that wandered parts of the jungle; on the other, it looked odd when she nuzzled Mora surprisingly warmly in greeting. Elaine disliked strangers, but Mordariel was kin and kin was not replaceable. "Have you been here long? If only your mother stayed long enough for me to have a word with her, I would see to it that she would know my opinion on this manner of dropping you off."

Mora's tail wagged quickly, although it was in small motions as she nuzzled her aunt in return. She knew her aunt was a bit peevish at times, especially around Mora's mother for some reason, and didn't want to upset her further. However, her aunt cared for her and Mora was never worried about her aunt being mean to her. Well... except that one time with the pinchy bug thing, but that didn't count.

"She said I just needed to follow the river in. So I did! I think she's probably gone now though." Mora's tail stilled and her ears perked forward. "How long am I staying, Aunt Elaine? Are we going to see the whole... strange forest?" She peered at the trees warily again, for their ensnaring vines would certainly, certainly be waiting for Mora's return. Hopefully her Aunt Elaine could keep them back and teach Mora a few tricks in the meantime.

Her mother's mannerisms pushed Mora to be independent, so the pup had a tendency to be outgoing and fairly undaunted by "scary" circumstances. Mora's aunt, however, had taught her not to judge on appearance-- much-- and gave her a bit more... practical knowledge. For Mora, it was fun. It was like bouncing between two parents, and, considering her lack of siblings, it gave her someone other than Mom's squirrel to play with. Besides, who else played with Elaine? No one, surely, so Mora was helping her out too!

Elaine sighed. "Gone where, I wonder," she murmured to herself wryly, imagining the puppy-at-heart chasing after the first male that gave her something more than a stare. Then in a louder voice she addressed Mordariel. "You stay with me for as long as I need you, though honestly at times I have thoughts of you simply staying with me. It appears obvious to me that Rumathil is not a very well-minding mother, and I would rather you be under my eyes here in an untamed realm than in her flimsy paws." Loved children, but so loathed not having the full package of a stable mate . . . She did not voice her opinion that Rumathil probably considered Morda more of a plaything she created than an actual daughter. Pity. Elaine liked Morda's bold disposition for the most part.

"Today we will look for a certain flower I am in need of," the wolfess explained as they walked back to her home. "Ever heard of feverfews and lavenders?"

Mora bounced once, an odd half-step-jump that portrayed her excitement. "I know what lavender is! Like my eyes! Lavender looks like my eyes. I can find that." She'd seen lavender once, and her mother had spun off about the beautiful purple shade. It was a flower, assuming that it grew right in such an odd forest. Apparently odd forests had normal plants too. Mora would have to ask Aunt Elaine later if odd forest plants grew outside the odd forest too.

"What's feverfew? Is that some plant that relieves fevers?" Fever. Phew! Mora grinned, one ear turning at a sound and her whole head following it to distraction as that bug passed by again. Mora frowned at it. Didn't it know they needed to be quiet and stop attracting attention?

"Is that feverfew?" She trotted over to take a closer look at a fern, skirting a vine lying across the ground. Not again. She was watching them now.

Elaine's maw split into a small crooked smile. "Yes, little one, indeed that is feverfew," she replied, watching her niece interact with the jungle in her own unique fashion. Mordariel had this strange fixation on vines coming to get her, of all things. "So your eyes are still intact and not dullened by your mother's irresponsible training - if she teaches you at all," she added under her breath. The adult trotted after Mora, knowing she would have to attract her attention once more before she could run off to do some exploring.

"We need to gather several fronds of feverfew to bring to my home, as I will soon run out. Lavender also needs to be fetched for the same reason." Elaine did not disclose the reason why and leaned down, tearing the plant from the ground searching about to see if there were more closeby.

"Mama doesn't bother with teaching me plants much. Only flowers, but most of those are sleeping now, or they were where we were before. Things in your home never seem to sleep, Aunt Elaine." She studied another feverfew plant for a moment, considering it with a tilted head, then reached down and settled her teeth near its base and pulled. Most of it came out cleanly, and she hauled again and detached the remaining roots. Proud of her accomplishment, she trotted over to her aunt to display her prize.

"Fihvrfoo." She set it down when she realized she couldn't speak. "How much do we need? And where's the lavender?"

She peered around the area as if she could find it without the tell-tale flowers, then gave up and went off to get more feverfew, only half-listening to Elaine's answer.
