A close friend of mine told me a while back that I have a great deal of negative energy in my life, and cleansing myself would be a good way to make it start to dissapate. Unfortunatly, several events recently have seriously proved his point even further and I want to take his advice. However, I have never done any type of cleansing aside from a simple chakra cleansing meditation every now and then, so I'm pretty much at a loss of how to go about this. Does anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions they would like to share?

If he hadn't told you that, to what would you have attributed these unfortunate circumstances? Would you have thought something odd was going on, or would you have just brushed them off as bad luck or similar?
What is this negative energy? Is it people in your life? Parts of your life, like your job? Your outlook on life?
How do you usually get clean? Have a shower. Go for a run and have a shower. You'll feel much better.

I've heard saunas are good for cleansing.. they flush out your pores, then you could go take a shower. It leaves you feeling great. biggrin

I would have come to the same conclusion, though it probably would have taken me a bit longer. And it has partly to do with a group of people in a situation I have been unable to extracate myself from, unfortunatly. Thanks for the tips. I may go fall in the hottub later.

You can always try smudging yourself (with sage), or if you are good at visualizing, you can try the Tree Meditation (it's good for grounding before rituals as well)...
While standing with your feet planted firmly on the earth (barefoot if you can), take a few deep breaths, exhaling slowly, close your eyes and imagine that there are roots growing out of your feet and digging down through the earth...deep into the soils, digging deeper and deeper, until they reach the core of the earth. Tap into the energy you find at the core, feel it's fiery warmth moving up the roots, back up through the earth... feel it move into your feet - a pure white light pushing out any dark negative energy ... up your legs... slowly up through your body - taking the negative energy with it as it goes. Reach your arms up like branches and feel the positive energy pushing out the negative... out through the tips of your fingers and the top of your head like a shower of light, so that the negative energy falls to the ground to be reabsorbed and purified by the earth.

Lamia Moonrose I would have come to the same conclusion, though it probably would have taken me a bit longer. And it has partly to do with a group of people in a situation I have been unable to extracate myself from, unfortunatly. That's cool. I always ask when it's someone else who's introduced the idea, on the basis that it can call one's attention to negative things in one's life that are happening anyway. Attribution and so forth. When you have that in mind, you'll even notice more bad things happening which will reinforce the attribution. Hmm. I think I'll stick with the exercise-and-hot-shower idea. But Sweet's grounding meditation is a really good one to make you feel better just in general.
