Alrighty. So here's the deal. At the beginning of the year my friend Shaun found that there was no anime/manga/otaku club at our high school. Needless to say, he was appalled. So he and his friend, Logan, started one with Logan as the captain. They started out with only guys and quickly found they were required to have at least one female member, so now we have about five girls vs like eight guys, all sitting in a dark room watching bad anime every Thursday. And thus the OTAKU Club began.
Well, today after club, Logan got up in front of the T.V. to make the announcements(what we do next week, upcoming cons, ect). Now this is where it gets freaky. He couldn't keep his face straight and he kept looking down and apologizing to the girls. I was pretty confused. And then it happened. He announced that the OTAKU Club would be hosting an event to raise funds. A Maid Cafe...
At first I thought, "A what???" But then it sunk in. The boys turned red, the girls tilted heads to one side and checked to see if they were too flat chested to participate, and everybody freaked out. After Logan got us calmed down he said we would be renting out the cafeteria. The guys would dress as Butlers, and the girls as French Maids. Now, I don't really have a huge problem with this, but I would like to know, how can we pull all the costumes together? And what about food?? How am I supposed to pull this together? Because I'm the one they all turned to to organize it.*grumble* I only choreographed one group skip and they think I can pull this out of my ****??? *grumble*
Anyhoo. I need some advice on how to do this. I have an extremely limited budget, and I need at least five maid costumes and a ton of snacks. Help me?... Please?

(ravenna posted your problem on our forum to help you) well the best snacks are always homemade sandwitches etc because you can adjust their sizes and amounts most esily. As for costumes check any places for sales on halloween costumes theyll all be on sale now since its about a week since halloween is over. You can usually get those cheap or buy cheap clothes and modify them to look how you need them too. Thats what usually works best ive found

There's also recipes in magazines that are good to try, and they're not half bad. Sandwhiches and the like are a good idea, along with that discounted sales on outfits, and Party City could help out too. Just giving a little advice..heh...have a nice cafe though! I hope it turns out really swell. ^^ Good luck, mistress Midnight!

You could even do large batches of sweet tea for drinks. anything not used will hold delicious for 6 hrs at room temp and 3 days in a fridge. as for food, your best bet is the sandwiches. make them triangles for a nicer appearance. with decor, you can easily go to your local dollar store and pick up most of your supplies.

Oh! Those are good ideas! I had thought about buying costumes at a costume shop cheap, but they take them off the racks(no pun intended) so fast! I think I might've missed them.
Sandwiches are an awesome idea! I can have Heather(also a member of the graphic design club) draw up some menus and we can cut off the crusts and pretend to be sophisticated!
But what about drinks? For the ladies my mother has a very extensive tea collection.. but for the guys? I'm not sure soda will cut it.

I'm not sure soda will cut it. many guys actually do enjoy tea but ive found that cranberry apple juice looks dead on like wine and tastes MUCH better. So something along the lines of a dark red juice would work as a pretend wine for sophistication

Cool! That's an awesome thought! I just asked my(tall, busty, AND blond) big sister(who refuses to dress up gonk crying She's concede to being a bar tender for punch) and she remembered a radical punch recipe involving ginger ale, vanilla ice-cream, and something else I forgot immediately. We can serve that too!
But I'd like to be able to serve some sweets. What along the lines of cakes or pies is cheapest? And yes, we're definitely getting a cookie platter.

Thrift stores will prolly be best bet for cheap costumes, you can assemble them yourself by piecing them together.
Glad our JPCC (Japanese Pop Culture Club) (Anime Club) never did this.
I'd have had to wear a maid outfit. xD
Anyways,
for a drink........
strawberry Jones soda with Blue Raspberry Jones soda, mixed in equally, and for every full cup of that combination, add a shot of Everclear. 8D
