Thanos stood upon a ridge looking out over the land he had once called home. That was a long time ago, and things had changed greatly, both in the lands and within himself. He wasn’t the horse he was back then. Now he was but a fraction of himself, in more ways than one. His mind was shattered beyond repair and what little thoughts he had of his own often left him as quickly as they came. He shook his head and took a deep breath. Unable to smell the air of the living world again he pawed at the ground. There was an important sense missing from his decayed body. He had other ways of knowing what was going on around him, he could still hear and see, and whatever his body couldn’t tell him surely his two companions would.“What a wretched land this is,” War spoke into his ear. “Why would we return to this?”“What are you talking about? This is a beautiful place, you must open your eyes.” Peace nattered back at the other.“You would like it here.” War replied but then quickly turned her attention back to Thanos. “Why did we bring the others? We don’t need them.”“You wish him to be alone for the rest of his life?”“He has us. He needs no others.” She hissed back.“Both of you be quiet!” Thanos snapped at the two rats. Their bickering though quite normal to him could often irritate him. This was one of those times. He wanted things to be quiet, to let his mind work on its own for once, and yet here they were interrupting his thoughts once more. “There is no life anymore. Whatever this is now, it is not true life.” He responded to Peace’s question. It was mostly true, life had changed, whether for the better or for the worse was yet to be determined. All he knew was that things would be different this time around, for him and his herd. He would make sure of it.

Vengeance had left his old master on the ground, his life force draining at a steady rate from his body. He had done to the man what the man had done to Sky. He was no longer that horse. Sky was dead, and so was his master. The master that had left him to die and betrayed him. He would no longer trust man, no longer idolize him. With little thought for anything but his hatred for man, the stallion had left the clearing, making his way back to where they had arrived from hell. He wasn't sure where anyone else had gone or if they had even moved far yet. Wherever they were he would find them. As vengeance neared the place of his rebirth he thought he could hear the others. Good, they hadn't left yet. It would be a bother for him to have to chase them down. Now where were the two who had led them out? He was sure they were bound to be the alphas and he needed to befriend them quickly before anyone else. He would get ahead and rise to the top. Even in death and rebirth he was still ambitious.

For the first time since he met them his rats fell into silence as they allowed him a moment to his thoughts, as broken as they were. He was just beginning to gather a few shreds of a thought together when he could hear the hooves a horse approaching. Damn there went another thought, he would need to work on that one again later. Not sure if it was one of his herd or not he turned his head to get a better look.
"One approaches, we must bring it pain!" War cried out into Thanos' ear. "It is one of ours I think." Peace retorted. "We should see what it wants."
"Quiet!" Thanos told his companions. His eyes squinted to get a better look at the one who approached. As the young stallion came into better focus Thanos realized it was one from his herd, though his memory evaded him as to what his name was.
"Vengeance." War said softly as if knowing Thanos was having problems with his memory.
Thanos shook his head. "What are you talking about?" He wasn't sure if War wanted him to seek vengeance against the young stallion of if that was his name.
"That one is Vengeance." Peace clarified. "Though he was known differently before."
That made more sense now and Thanos turned as the young stallion approached. He took a quick look over the stallions body as he approached, he had many scars on his body but was in far better shape that Thanos was. Now what did this young one want.

As the stallion came into view of the herd he spotted Thanos first. Well, he did need to meet both of the leaders but one at a time would probably be best. If he could at least weasel into one of their good graces it would be a start.
He slowed down a little and made his way over to the black stallion. Now that he could actually get a good look at the stallion, Vengeance noticed just how bad of shape the leader was. However many years in hell had not been kind on him for whatever reason. What had the stallion done to warrant such a beating in hell? Vengeance supposed the pain and torment that he himself had suffered had been no where near as bad. Although he only retained bits of fragmented memories.
Once he reached Thanos he came to a stop. When they were in hell he had known of the stallion and knew who he was. Back then he hadn't had any emotion and had honestly not cared. Now he wished he had spent more time with him.
"Hello Thanos." Vengeance greeted the Alpha. He wasn't entirely sure how he would continue, but he at least needed to greet his leader.

Thanos stood quietly for a moment after Vengeance said his hello. Then he turned his head and looked at the younger stallion. "Vengeance." He said his greeting quietly. "You are not with the others." Not like he cared that much, the others could do as they pleased, as long as it meant not bothering him to often.
His two rat companions had slipped into his mane as Vengeance got closer. They always did that when others were nearby, whether they hated the company or just found it amusing to hide he was unsure of.
"You should see what he wants. Perhaps he needs help." Peace called out quietly from under his mane. "No, don't be foolish. He will try to usurp you if you give him the chance. End it now!" War called out in her typical fashion.
Thanos stamped his foot down hard to quiet them. It didn't work and they continued on.
"He is their leader, he must see to their needs. Why must you always be so negative?" "Negative? I am not negative. This is the way it should be. Only the strongest survive and well look at him!"
Thanos wasn't sure if War was referring to him or Vengeance but he wasn't liking how this conversation was going. He shook his mane roughly, jarring the two rats into a moment of quiet. He looked at Vengeance. "What did you want?"

Vengeance stood quietly as he awaited Thanos' reply. "No, they bore me." He spoke simply when the leader had. The others were a bore to Vengeance. None of them would help him get to the top. He wanted power. Not alpha though, no that was too much responsibility that he didn't want. Maybe beta though.
The gray stallion fidgeted a bit as he watched Thanos think. What if the stallion turned him away? He supposed he could come back and try again later but there would be only so many chances before the black stallion would finally start to ignore him completely and he couldn't have that. At the moment Vengeance was in a delicate situation. If he said anything wrong who knows what would happen. Vengeance wanted power, however, if Thanos thought that he wanted his power, who knew what would happen? He couldn't let him think that.
"I thought you might like some company." Oh wait, "Well, perhaps some company in your own species." He said as he nodded toward the rats that sat on Thanos. Personally, Vengeance wasn't sure why he kept them around. It's not like they actually did anything.

Thanos' ear twitched as Vengeance spoke. He snorted lightly at the idea of the other boring the young stallion. Well if that was the case then so be it, he had no intention to make them less boring at this moment. He watched Vengeance carefully, even the tiniest of movements can tell a story well beyond what one was saying. Though so far the young stallions fidgeting said nothing of importance.
"If he is so bored why doesn't he pick a fight? That is always fun." War whispered. "You must not encourage such things, he is in bad enough shape already. We don't want him getting himself killed." "We don't?" She questioned Peace. "Is that not why we are here? To rain down destruction on those around us? We must encourage hate in others, for it will be our strength."
"There will be no fighting." Thanos said as quietly as possible to his rats, though he knew Vengeance would surely hear him. Then he heard the comment about company of his own species and looked back at the two rats in his mane. "Yes company." He said idly. "Are you sure I will not bore you as well?" He asked as he looked back at the stallion.
As if taking insult to Vengeance's suggestion of giving company to Thanos the female rat sat up on her hind legs and began squeaking madly at the stallion. Peace jumped on her and bit her tail, something very odd for such a peace loving creature to do. Thanos shook his mane and shoulder trying to break up the fight. The rats nearly being knocking off by Thanos' shaking returned to their spots semi-hidden in his mane but kept a close eye on Vengeance.
"As long as you don't annoy me like they do you may stay" Thanos said to Vengeance. He didn't care whether the stallion stayed or left, it was up to him. Either way he knew he would not be able to recall any of his broken thoughts right now. Perhaps later he would, that is if he could remember to do so.

Vengeance stood patiently, trying not to fidget too much. However, he only became more nervous when Thanos started to mumble to himself. No fighting? Was that what he had said? That didn't make any sense to the stallion at all. None of the others were doing anything at all, that's why they were so boring. Maybe he ought to pick a fight? Yes, that could be fun, but then again if Thanos didn't want any fighting that would likely just put the stallion on his bad side. No, he sighed a little to himself, he probably shouldn't start a fight.
The gray stallion was just about to speak up again when the rats began moving around and one even started squeaking, what seemed quite madly in his direction. Had he actually offended them? Up until now he wasn't even sure they could understand anyone, I mean, it wasn't like either of them could talk.
After Vengeance took his mind off of the rats he then turned back to Thanos. "I uh, I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to upset them, to be honest I didn't even know they could hear me." Apologizing to Thanos first would be the best course of action, after that he could work on trying to get into his good graces. He still wasn't sure what he was going to do or say, perhaps that hadn't been such a good idea.

Thanos watched Vengeance with a careful eye. The younger stallion seemed a little agitated, though from what Thanos couldn't quite figure out. Surely the members of his herd were used to his unusual look, could it be the rats that bothered the other stallion so much. No, that was crazy, why would they be bothered by them, its not like they heard their talking. Wait, did they hear what they were saying, if so that could cause a major problem. He shook his head and lost the thought.
He turned once more to Veneance. "Oh they can hear you alright." He said with a glance to his rats. "They can hear everything."
"We should kill him now, this one seems like too much trouble." War shouted. "What is wrong with you? He is a member of the herd, we can't go killing them off." Peace chirped in. "Why not, because we need them?" "Of course we need them, we are nothing without them."
Thanos snorted at the rats and they once again quieted down for a moment. They could be so bothersome at times and yet he needed them more and more each day. He only hoped that the herd members didn't realize how much he depended on the two little rodents to run the herd efficiently. If that day came, then so be it, he would deal with it then, but for now they seemed to be oblivious to he need of the rats.
"Tell me Vengeance. What do you think about all this?" He asked as he looked out from the ridge towards the meadows and forests that were now their new or was it old home.

Hmm, so the rats could hear the rest of them. He didn't give it much more thought than that. What good were a couple of rats that could hear everyone else but not communicate? Or could they communicate? Now that was a thought to hold onto. Not that it was worth much. He might continue to watch them in the future, but for now he didn't care much for them. Let them do what they wish.
Turning his attention back to the stallion, Vengeance looked out over the ridge too. It looked like, his old home. Well, without all the circus tents and men. Men. He let that thought pass quickly. He would have vengeance on any man he ran into.
What sort of response was his leader looking for? Was he talking about the scenery or the herd? Better to address both just in case, he didn't want to look stupid and blow his chances. "Well," He started. "It's definitely a change of scenery. Now that we're out of Hell I'm starting to regain bits of memories. I'm still having some issues with it but I suppose they'll come when they need to. They aren't particularly interesting. Just of my old master." The stallion glanced at his hooves, they were still covered with a bit of blood, but by now it was covered mostly by dirt. " In any case I've already taken care of him." Vengeance said with a smirk.
"Any ideas what we're going to do now? I mean, we get a second chance in the world, for whatever reason, we can't just waste it. Think of all the havoc we could wreak. Or we could just simply live the lives we never had. Whatever your choice we'll follow you." Vengeance was rather hoping to be able to wreak a little havoc. After all, the world could use a good lesson or two. "I know the rest of the herd will simply stand by and wait too."

"Memories." He said with a bit of a huff. "To lose ones memories and not get them back is..." he trailed off not really remembering where he was going with that thought. Thanos glaced down at Vengeance's hooves when the young stallion did so. Yes, there was a bit of blood still showing. "Took care of him did you." He replied.
"If he took care of his old master what's to say he won't take care of you next." War practically screamed at Thanos. "He would do not such thing." Peace retorted. "Look at him. He is looking to Thanos for guidance." "You are a fool think that that." She squealed back. "Thanos listen to me, I know how these things work. They want to gain your trust and then when they have it, they stab you in the back." Peace didn't even know what to say about that. True he had seen that happen before, but he couldn't see Vengeance doing that.
"What we do now," he started, ignoring the rats for once. "is whatever we please. This land will bow to us." He voice had changed suddenly, almost as if the topic had excited him a bit. "If it is havoc you want then Thorn is the one to talk to. He is more adept at those things than I am."
"Havoc!" War said excitedly. "Yes let us rain havoc down on the world!" "Will you stop that!" Peace snapped, jumping around Thanos' mane. "Why must you be so full of hate?" "Why must you be so damned loving all the time. It sickens me!"
"Stop it." Thanos whispered to his rats. They sure could be a nuisance at times. But in the end he needed them, so he would continue to put up with their bickering.

Hmm, perhaps he would talk to Thorn a bit later. For now though, Vengeance was still working on getting Thanos to like him. Originally, he had thought that perhaps talking about havoc might be something the stallion would be interested in. However, it seemed that, once again. He was indifferent. Perhaps Vengeance was merely wasting his time? It didn't even seem like Thanos was all there. That could be rather problematic. If the herd leader wasn't even going to remember much of what Vengeance said why bother? Well, he supposed he could at least continue trying for now. Maybe it would also mean he wouldn't remember if Vengeance did anything to upset or anger him. No, he would surely remember something like that.
"Yes, he's quite taken care of." Vengeance smirked rather evilly. No one would ever cross him again without paying the price. His master was only the first. He would not have another master. He was free now, to do as he pleased. "I might go talk to Thorn, but right now I'm talking with you." He directed at the leader. He hoped he didn't sound too pushy but he did suppose the way he said it could come across as so.
Was he mumbling to himself again? No, Vengeance must just be hearing things. It had kind of looked like it, but he doubted it. He did sympathize with the other stallion. Vengeance sometimes hated that he couldn't remember bits of his past. What if there was someone else he needed to go after? However, he couldn't even image what it would be like not remembering much of anything. Which is what seemed to be Thanos' problem. He did seem to lose his thoughts quite quickly.
"Maybe try not forcing your memories back? I'm sure they'll come when they need to." He thought he might as well try and offer some advice. Although he wasn't quite sure what good it was.

"Good, good." Thanos said upon Vengeance's confirmation of taking care of his old master. "And did it help?" Surely the young stallion and sought out and taken care of his old master for a reason. All the horses in the herd had some background with humans or other horses that were their reasons for returning to the living to seek out some sort of revenge. Now if only he could remember his own reasons behind returning. Yes another memory to try to recapture.
"Oh my his poor master." Peace said softly. "Ah ha, he killed him. Excellent. This is what we need. More horses like him." War chirped excitedly. "Oh now you like him? I though you hated him?" "How can I hate someone like him." She retorted back then turned to Thanos. "We can certainly use him to our advantage. He has a burning hatred in him. This is good. Very good."
Thanos had to agree with the rats for once, well War at least. It was good that Vengeance displayed such hatred towards his old master. Perhaps he would make a good member of the herd after all. He did have some doubts about the others, but perhaps they too could prove themselves with time.
His mind was jarred back to the present as Vengeance spoke again. The young stallion did have a point there. Perhaps trying to force back memories didn't work because you had to let them come back on their own. "Yes perhaps they will come back in time. Though some may be lost altogether. But how will one know which are to never return and which are to come back?" It was a good question. Whether Vengeance, or any of them knew the answer to that, one may never know.

The gray stallion shrugged as he received the leaders words. His master was dead now and he had taken his vengeance, but had it really helped? There were still so many other disgusting humans out there just like that man. Killing his old master had given Vengeance a sort of peace but only just a little peace. It was likely that the stallion would always be filled with rage. After all, he had had ten long years in Hell to allow his anger to boil and rage inside of him.
"I suppose it did a bit." He told Thanos. "Although what he did to me can never be undone." It was true. Even though Vengeance had exacted his revenge the hurt, pain and the betrayal were a permanent part of him now. "What about you?" He asked the black stallion. "Do you have ties left to this world?" From what trouble the leader seemed to be having with his memories, Vengeance wasn't even sure if the stallion would know, but maybe asking would bring something back. Memories did that, just kind of came back randomly when prompted.
The gray stallion had listened quietly as Thanos asked him about memories. To that he did not have an answer. He had asked himself that very same question a few times and still hadn't come up with anything. He supposed he would honestly never know. Had he ever had a mate before Hell? He sort of doubted it, but if he did he had not received any new memories and doubted he would ever know otherwise unless he did.
"Now that is a question I cannot answer." He told his leader. "I wish I could but I can't. I suppose we'll never know, seeing as how we won't know we've even ever lost the memory." He doubted his answer would be of any help, but it was still an answer.

"Can anything from the past truly be undone." He retorted to the younger stallion. His ears flickered a bit at Vengeance's question. Yes he indeed did have ties to this world. That was the one memory he had retained in tack, he had worked hard to remember that one, going over it day after day until it was so deeply ingrained he was sure he would never forget it. "Yes, I do have ties left to this world. That was one of my main reasons for returning." He choose not to elaborate beyond that, for no herd member knew of his past and they never would if he could help it.
He watched Vengeance as he seemed to mull over the question about lost memories. When his answer finally came it was what Thanos had expected to hear. Thinking for a moment he glanced at the young stallion with a sudden look of brilliance on his face. "I believe that we do in a way realize that those memories are missing. Though we may not know the exact memory that is missing we will indeed feel a bit of emptiness inside and know that deep down something is gone and that something will never return." He snorted lightly as he finished. Every now and then it seemed his brain worked as it had before his time in Hell, when things came so much easier to him and he could be quite intelligent. Then the look on his face went away and he returned to his old broken self with lost memories.
"He is quite a thinker." Peace chirped from his spot in Thanos' mane. "Thinking does matter! We need doers!" War squeaked. "What is the point of having a someone who will do things without thinking it through first?" "Thinking wastes time! We need action now!"
Thanos rolled his eyes, ah yes they were at it again. Though right now it didn't really bother him, he was too content with himself for doing so well without their help for once. Maybe Vengeance had been right, maybe all he needed was time to regain what he had lost. Vengeance right, he was talking with him, he forced his mind, or at least the part that seemed to be working right now, back into the present and looked the younger stallion over. "So now that your master is taken care of what will you do? Beyond bringing about havoc?
