I'm going to answer them all, because I love questions like these.

1. is there a god? if so, why does he inflict cancer and floods on human beings?

I don't really know if there is a god. Sometimes I lean one way and other times the other. I do know that if there is a god he created for us not a paradise but a school, and his greatest gift to us was one of choice. The world is imperfect and chaotic, and so if a god did create us with purpose, it wasn't for us to live our lives in idyllic bliss every day. I think it was to struggle for our own personal perfection, but who knows.

2. what is cancer?
Runaway cells!

3. what is electricity?
Wow, I used to know this and now I don't.

4. if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one around to hear it, does it still make a sound?
Yes; reality is more than just perception.

5. what makes a car go? (that is, how does an engine work and how does it make a chassis move?)
You know, I have no idea.

6. what was bad about adolf hitler?
He lacked empathy and used his power irresponsibly. He was no worse than a lot of people in the world, but he had the resources to execute his plan while most don't.

7. who is the smartest person you know and why do you think so? (define "smart" any way you like.)
My brother is the smartest person I know. Not only does he devourer information, he can parse it, study it critically, and readjust his understanding when approached with new facts.

He is also emotionally intelligent. He has a good sense of what matters in the world, how to conduct one's self, and how to live life.

8. is america the best coutnry in the world? how come? if it is, are we just lucky to be living here?

It may not be the best, but it's certainly up there. Where you want to live is a matter of choice, and there are things about the US that people might not like, and places in the US where life sucks balls, but overall it's a great country. Unless we immigrated here those of us who are Americans are very lucky to live here. It's easy to take for granted the fact that we can come and go as we please to so many places, but that isn't the case in many countries.

9. are there other people, or creatures like people, in the universe? why do think so or why do you not?

Considering how gigantic the universe is, I think there has to be. They may not be very much like people, but a bipedal tool making animal might just be out there.

Maybe I'll do the rest later sweatdrop

America is the best country in the world, and we are actually blessed by God (who exists) to have been born here. America's dreams and aspirations alone make cars go, and liberty is a synonym for electricity. Cancer is every other country on the planet. Every president is the smartest man in the world, and trees don't fall unless someone is around to hear it. Al Qaeda is mistaking jealousy for anger. The only subject missing is Say The Pledge Of Allegiance Twice, Once For The Lie Detector. We're the only planet in the universe, so I'm not sure where any other life would live. When we die, we go in the ground or in an urn, and our soul rots in the ground, no matter what. X-Rays react with X-Chromozones and show you everything within that particular zone; the technician then puts all the pieces together like a puzzle to form one X-ray sheet.

I don't know if it was graded. Probably not. You can't grade someone on their belief in God. That seems kind of ******** up.

1. is there a god? if so, why does he inflict cancer and floods on human beings?
i do not believe that there is a large old bearded man in the sky, but i believe (with Paul Tillich and most Hindus) that there is a Ground of Being upon which we all rest; and that there is a connection between that G.O.B. and the aim and origin of my life.

life is what it is; do you expect the sky or the ocean to apologize for tsunamis? yet they kill innocent life.

2. what is cancer?
an internalized unregulated growth economy

3. what is electricity?
movement of energy from one place to another? to me it seems more like a process than like a substance.

4. if a tree falls in the forest and there is no one around to hear it, does it still make a sound?
i am with Lea on this one. what, are you going to expel all the birds and animals from the hypothetical area? they have ear too.

5. what makes a car go? (that is, how does an engine work and how does it make a chassis move?)
it depends on what sort of engine it has, these days. but the old engine works with a timed series of contained explosions which push pistons up and down, which vertical energy is translated into circular rotating form for the transmission.

6. what was bad about adolf hitler?
killing jews and gypsies and the retarded, taking over the churches, invading without provocation, burning books, experimenting on human subjects, eliminating other parties, being a dictator, wasting countless lives of germans as well as their enemies.

7. who is the smartest person you know and why do you think so? (define "smart" any way you like.)
my high school psych teacher was a genius, she was so aware of all the subtleties of behavior and relationship...and she was my ally, when some other teachers were against me.

8. is america the best coutnry in the world? how come? if it is, are we just lucky to be living here?
i like pie, pickup trucks, country music and rock, wide open spaces, hamburgers, stray dogs, free speech...we have a lot of that good stuff.
but i am also reallly fond of Canada, they have better ice cream, their coke tastes better, the air tends to be cleaner (except in Toronto), they have some above average public broadcasting, i like a lot of Canadian talent, like Leonard Cohen and Rush and Great Big Sea and kd lang, and kids in the hall, bare naked ladies, joni mitchell, mes aieux, great railroads too
i rode from Toronto to Syndney NS and had a great time
i want to ride out west, to Banff, with a side trip up the Agawa canyon

9. are there other people, or creatures like people, in the universe? why do think so or why do you not?
chances are, as big as the universe is, that there are all kinds of life forms out there, some of which no doubt could make telescopes and space ships...
but the odds are also astronomical that they would ever care about us.

10. is there such a thing as a soul?
i believe in the greek psyche, which in the new testament is the word for soul; it means the emotional and deeper subconscious self, so of course there is such a thing. whether it lasts after death of the (rest of) the body, i have no clue.

11. what happens to us after we die?
no clue! and nobody else has a clue either.
so we'd better make the best use of the one life we've got
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujvMuJc2j4o

12. is there a subject that should be studied in school but isn't?
gender?

13. how do x-rays work?
all kinds of radiation go through our bodies; radio! cell phones! right through our bodies and we can pick up the signals on the other side of our bodies from where the transmission is coming, just as if we weren't there.
so the trick is to find a kind of radiation that you can catch as it goes through, and have it tell you about where it's been.

14. why is al qaeda so mad at us?
like many fundamentalists, they see the world going to hell as local culture and values gets swallowed by consumerism, commercialism, Hollywood and Vegas.
i kind of sympathize, in a non threatening way, so don't turn me in, please. but i don't like a lot of the things that they don't like too.

15. is this going to be graded?
after the equivalent of four years of college (drawn out over a couple more years) i have been so sorted graded and processed that i no longer care.
