He was a father, both proud and disappointed. He had gained two sons, but he had two daughters too. As much as he wished for a all male litter, he was at least grateful for two sons. Still, as much as he thought about drowning the females in the river at birth, there was always opportunity in misfortune (that and Lore was being particularly watchful he did not snap their necks). Mothers!

As the father, the male, he had to make sure that this pride and their ridiculous ideas did not corrupt his two impressionable offspring. Since these would be important lessons, he also took his adoptive daughter Lulu with him as he collected the girls and brought them out to talk to them privately. As much as he could push Lore back, he didn't want her interrupting his lessons or trying to question his authority. She woman was a nuisance as it was, and now that he had children, he only needed her as far as she could raise them to adulthood (or at least adolescence). After that, he'd see how useful she was to bother with keeping.

"My daughters. It is time you learn your place in the world. As women, you must know the order of things and what you must do. Your mother might be telling you things, but do not listen to her. She is not looking out for you and only wishes to harm you. No. I will tell you what is right and wrong, and how the world works. Do not listen to any others, not even the other females here. They do not care for you and wish you dead." It could be argued that Soro wasn't the nicest lion to be teaching cubs.

"You, my dears, serve men. Men are at the top of the world, and women are to help men. We are a strong lot, but we cannot do every little minial task. It degrades our power when we can use it for better things. You are here to do these things for us. You are here to serve and obey, and when the time comes, to be mothers. "

Lulu had seen these cubs be born into a life that was not perfect. She herself, was stuck here and had to bear the ways of this cruel monster named Soro. She had decided upon seeing these cubs, that she would try to be a big sister and a mother is he had too. She didn't blame Lor... her hatred for Soro got in the way of her babies lives but Lulu understood. She too hated this male. Hated him for what he did to her Mother Moray... hated that he took her away and that she hadn't seen her family in ages.

She toddled behind the girls, casting a wary eye onto the dark male. She was afraid, hateful and despising of him all at the same time but wouldn't dare show it. She simply kept her lips pressed shut as she herded the cubs after their father.

His words sunk into her skull and though her face showed no emotion, inside she cursed him. She did not agree with anything he said and personally, she was going to hope the little girls didn't either. If she had too, in secret.. she'd gain the girls' trust before their father could make them into slaves..

Just like everyone else.

The little cub was rather excited, despite the solemnity of the moment. Today was a girls day with Father, and that was something the little spotted cub couldn't help but be thrilled about. This was quite the occasion, really, and little Mihr'senka didn't see any reason to be upset or gloomy.

It was most unfortunate she had been born to such a family; her childish, naive nature made her incredibly susceptible to manipulation and her incredibly trusting nature might work in her disfavor. Truly, it was a shame that the light and affectionate spark so easily seen in these early days might someday tarnish and grow bitter. But for now, little Mihr was only too happy to be out with her sisters and Papa.

Pausing now and then so she might snuggle up to Lulu for a moment before catching up to walk affectionately by Eldrid, and offer a little head-butt and nuzzle, Mihr was oblivious to the reality of her life. Her mother, Lorelei, was often reserved and distant but Mihr did her best to dote upon her when allowed. The same with Soro, though she was learning that he wasn't exactly a very cuddling father either; and while she trailed after him, his tail looked like a mighty fine play-thing but. . . . maybe it wasn't the right time.

She was a silly little thing, the poor dear, and unfortunately she wouldn't stand much of a chance with in such a harsh and demanding pride. When they finally settled, two crimson eyes stared up at Soro, drinking in his words as he was teaching them a great lesson.

Her ears pricked, and she wriggled her butt a bit in excitement as she strived to understand what Soro was speaking of. It was strange really, how he said that Mother wished to harm her. . . . Little Mihr'senka couldn't exactly believe that. . . Not, not really. And it surprised her that other lionesses wished them dead too.

Dead. Like the bones she cuddled! Oooooh. . . . . perhaps if she died some one might cuddle up to her bones just like she did the small collection in her father's den! Bone cuddles might be nice, wouldn't they? But at the same rate, if she were just bones, she couldn't give cuddles back.

Maybe dead wasn't a good thing, really.

But, despite all this, her little ears flicked forward and a bright smile crossed her features. They were to serve the men, help them out! Oooooh, she liked to help, oh yes she did! Her tail flicked excitedly and she couldn't stop herself from speaking - she was still quite little, after all, and still learning her place and the rules. "I like to help, Papa-face, oh yes I do! Anything you want, yep, yep!" She giggled, turning to bump her head against her sisters shoulder. "Didja hear that, Eldrid? We get to help!"

Mother hating them? Other lionesses hating them? That sobering trinket of conversation didn't exactly relate. But helping others, now that was something Mihr'senka knew she could do!

Whenever her father called, it was of great importance. There farther never called upon them unless it was to do a chore or when telling them to stay back when eating and letting their brothers go first. They had only just weaned, but were learning that they did not get to eat first. The fact there were getting a private lesson made her hopes rise up in her. They had seen their brothers go out all the time with their father, into the fresh air and walk to places she did not know, and to hear their voices, their conversations, and the words she could not hear and feared to eavesdrop upon.

Now it was there turn, and she hoped she could impress her father enough that he would continue to see them, talk to them, and hold them in as high regard as his sons. She wanted to know why she was left behind, why he did not talk to them often, and maybe if he could hold them and clean them as affectionately as the other lions did with each other. What was it that Soro wanted from them, and if she did well, would he finally be happy with them?

Eldrid was nervous as she followed her father, and giggled with Mihr nudged her. Her sister was much more affectionate than anyone else, and she loved her. Her sister gave her the hugs, the giggles, and the nudges her mother didn’t give. She also played with her brother enough that she was sometimes left alone. She loved her sister, and she also loved her other sister Lulu. Lulu was there when she was born, and was older, bigger, and different in color than her. Even though she was not Soro’s, she didn’t have the markings he had either, just like her. She wondered if she had secrets to make Soro happy with them, but she also wondered why Soro took her. Did Lulu have something that Soro liked, and if so, how could she do it better than Lulu? Lulu was her sister, but also competition.

When her father spoke, she listened with every fiber of her being. She was to help her father and her brothers. It seemed simple enough, though she didn’t like her brothers too much. They were also smug about being the ones to have Daddy’s attention, and to be let outside and have lessons. Now she finally had a chance to say she was let out too to talk to Daddy. Maybe they could go with their brothers too now when Soro called for his sons.

I can help, Daddy. I can help too.” This was their chance to shine!
