I'd like to see information on different deities and their history.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 11:30 am

That would be classified as theology, which sadly isn't part of the supernatural. It would also ignite religious debates that are welcomed but not recommended.

I only suggested it because of Paganism and the fact that it comes up when talking about Witchcraft and Wicca. I think it is important to provide information on the differences and their backgrounds.

I've noticed that trend in the Supernatural forum. Someone claiming to be Wicca or a Witch but using both terms as if it's the same. .-.

ah, you have a point. Then it's ok then as long as the deities deal with witchcraft. It's the magical aspect that makes it all supernatural so. Yeah.

It's because they're all just a bunch of kids who think claiming to be a witch is cool. They have no idea what witchcraft is really all about, especially Wicca. :/ They're just blissfully ignorant and feel bad when someone calls them out on their idiocy.

Perhaps we should include the facts about EMP (Electromagnetic Phenomena) Since these seem to make or break a true haunting and have such a big impact in general on the paranormal.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:30 pm

Yeah, and I've noticed a few people who are into eclectic paganism favor some of the Greek and Egyptian Deities and all that falls under Mythology.

Because some of the supernatural deals with spirituality it's bound to show up here whether it be Witchcraft, Voodoo, Paganism, Shamanism, and all that and when you start talking about where it started it brings up all kinds of spiritual history.

Even if you just mention meditation it can bring up things like totems and spirit guides.

I know... the kids who watched too much Buffy and Charmed. I know a couple in person and I wanted to punch them. One girl claimed she was Wicca and a Witch and used them both as the same, and she claimed she could make pencils float and do all kinds of stuff. I flat out asked her to prove it but she went all "Uhm... I can't right now." Another treated it as if she were in this elite little secret club but at the same time she'd flaunt the pentacle all around and made sure to mention The Goddess at least 50 times a day.

I perfectly understand why you don't want too much Theology here, or religious spats and constant belief wars. That's not what I want to see either but I figured it's better to include some overlapping information than to cut it out. If we get enough serious people here I figured some of those things were bound to show up anyway.

Yeah, I'm not interested in getting into religious practices with people here, but what about "superstition." Any rituals people do for luck, protection, etc. What works for people what doesn't.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 3:57 pm

Gah! Voodoo! gonk How could I forget a practice that takes place in my state? xD

Yes, then it's fine to put in deities and such since it overlaps. Make it cut and dry but with enough that if someone wanted to research on their own they could do so.

Superstition, that's a curious subject. It could be supernatural with the roles of fate and destiny has in store but also could be just part of human behavior and the human belief system instead of the supernatural. It's a strange aspect, maybe we can touch and go on it.

Pertaining to the metaphysical~

Figured some definitions would be nice.

I consider anything to do with energy work or, out of body, meditation, dreams, anything to do with being Psychic" to be metaphysical. But anyways~

Metaphysics investigates principles of reality transcending those of any particular science. Cosmology and ontology are traditional branches of metaphysics. It is concerned with explaining the fundamental nature of being and the world. Someone who studies metaphysics would be called either a "metaphysician" or a "metaphysicist".

Metaphysical ideas, because they are not based on direct experience with material reality, are often in conflict with the modern sciences. Beginning with the Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution, experiments with, and observations of, the world became the yardsticks for measuring truth and reality. Therefore, our contemporary valuation of scientific knowledge over other forms of knowledge helps explain the controversy and skepticism concerning metaphysical claims, which are considered unverifiable by modern science.

Website that I've been going to for years on the metaphysical~

Divination?

Tarot, runes, numerology, pendulums, tea leaves, palmistry, scrying, astrology and so on.

Edit: I also remembered Astral Projection and Dream Recall.

Also, BEKs: Black Eyed Children. Sometimes people forget them.
