And our battlefield is...
Seashore Field
Split down the middle between land and sea, this field compliments land and water type pokemon. On the west end of the field is the land section: fine grained sand gradually slopes downward to meet the salt water on the east end of the battleground. A single palm tree wavers lightly in the breeze (the stadium ceiling is open when this field is selected) while shells are scattered in random places in and on the sand. In the water half of the battleground, the water laps at the sand much like at a real beach; when it retracts it leaves behind strands of seaweed and pieces of coral. Both are found under the water, offering shelter for water-types (or those who can hold their breath for great periods of times).
This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to GROUND and WATER type attacks.

Raina entered the stadium with Amaryllis at her side, the loyal electric mouse was eager to be back in the stadium and training. She had been in a sort of mood while she was in season and hadn't been very cooperative with her trainer though once Raina had figured out what the problem was she had been quick to take measures to prevent her precious raichu from becoming pregnant. Now that she was out of season Amaryllis was back to her old self and literally sparking with excitement.
As they neared the podium Raina looked across to where the other trainer would be, they hadn't arrived yet and she just shrugged, pressing the button to select the field. After the randomizer stopped and it was decided that the seashore field would be their battleground she looked down at Amaryllis and sighed. "Well Ammy... it could be worse." the little raichu just nodded and stepped out onto the sand, looking for her opponent and eager to begin.

Like usual, Opal was running late. This time, instead of her sleeping in, it was because of Nerezza being a sass as always, not wanting to train today. This confused Opal greatly, for when is there ever a time when Nerezza the Gastly did not want to train? Then again, Opal thought as she ran to the stadium, I suppose she would be under a lot of stress... Yes, for not a week ago, the pair found a lone Gengar and Opal decided to care for him. Little did she know until just last night that the Gengar was in fact related to Nerezza and was her cousin. Now Opal had to deal with mental stress, physical stress, and family stress. She was less than pleased. Hopefully today would be a pick-me-up.
Opal brushed one of her hairband ribbons out of her face and entered the stadium, very out of breath. Her Gastly floated not too far behind, wearing a scowl on her face. The girl looked up and was surprised to find a veritable tropical paradise for a battlefield. "Huh. Maybe this day wasn't a total loss, right, Nezz?" Opal glanced over to her companion. Nerezza rolled her eyes. "Gast gastly..." The trainer frowned at the Gastly that was her best friend. "Well, at least try to have some enthusiasm, okay? We've been off our game for a while and we need to get back in the groove of battling. Just remember to do your best." Nerezza didn't respond.
Remembering with a start the battle she was in, Opal turned to face her opponent. The woman had a Raichu with her. Opal smiled. "It'll be a fair fight," she said to herself. The girl then straightened her hairband and addressed her opponent. "I'm sorry if I made you wait. Shall we start?"

Raina looked up at the sound of footsteps and she waved to the other trainer as she approached. "Hi there, good luck!" she called before looking to Ayirwen who had been playing with the damp sand near the waters edge but was now standing upright, electricity sparking from her cheeks. "Alright Ammy, lets start this off with a mudslap!" she called.
Amaryllis smirked as she saw the ghost pokemon float onto the field, she was eager to try her skills against the gastly. "Rai raichuuu." she called just before Raina's command reached her ears and she used her tail to send the wet sand flying at the ghost pokemon.

Opal smiled at the warm reception. "Good luck to you too!" She called out to her opponent. The young trainer glanced at the trainer's Raichu and then at her own Nerezza. There was certainly a difference in strength, perhaps, but her Gastly had the sheer willpower and sass to have at least a chance. When the attack came, it was not what Opal had expected, and it worried her. "Dammit," she said quietly. She shook herself and called out to Nerezza. "Hang in there, honey, and use Shadow Ball!"
Nerezza felt the attack hit hard. It knocked her back about two or so feet even when she braced herself. She growled and nodded to her human, acknowledging that she had heard her. The Gastly took a deep breath and used her energy to make a large dark colored ball the same size as her. With a loud cry, Nerezza expelled the attack and sent it flying at her opponent. "Gast gastly!"

Raina watched as the attack hit the gastly and for a moment she felt bad for her opponent's pokemon, until she saw the retaliation attack brewing. "Move Amaryllis!" she called to her raichu but the pokemon had already begun to dodge the attack, unfortunately it still caught her tail and the dark energy seemed to suck her into it which caused her a great deal of fright even if it didn't hurt too terribly.
As the darkness faded away Raina assessed the situation then called out "Ammy use Thief!" this was a new attack that her Raichu had learned and she wondered what the effect would be. She knew it was effective against ghost types if they could manage to land it.
Upon hearing Raina's command Amaryllis shook off her shock as nearly being absorbed into the ball of darkness and rushed towards the gastly jumping towards the floating ghost with her paws glowing purple.

Opal's heart couldn't help leaping when she saw the attack hit. "Nice work, Nezz!" Her praise made the Gastly smile a little, a rare thing to witness indeed. Nerezza laughed a bit and stuck her tongue out at her trainer, a show of affection in some circles. "Gastly gast-gastly!" Neither the girl or the Pokemon saw the second attack coming. Opal staggered back a step and yelled, "Nezz! Get outta the way!" But the blow had already landed.
Nerezza took the blow and it angered her. Why was she losing?! She should be wiping the floor with this bozo! The Gastly growled and looked to her trainer, who gave the command to use Sludge Bomb. Nerezza grinned ferociously, showing off her sharp fangs, and took some of the poisonous gases that made up her body and piled them together until they solidified into a glob-like form. With a cackle, the Gastly launched the ball at the Raichu.

Raina grinned at Amaryllis when the raichu landed and threw a look over her shoulder at her trainer for confirmation that she had done well. Upon seeing the grin the little raichu smiled and raced back towards her side of the stadium wanting to put as much distance as possible between her and the ghost.
Since she was retreating she didn't see the sludge coming but she sure felt it when it hit her and she cried out in anger. RAIIIIIII! her eyes seemed to glow with a new fire lit within that showed how enraged she was at her beautiful fur being messed up and she rounded on the ghost, a look of pure ferocity on her face.
"You really shouldn't have done that, ghost." she spat as the stadium air seemed to become alive with electricity, the raichu's energy even made the lights flicker before she rose up on her tail and unleashed the thunderbolt attack on the gastly.
Raina stared at the happenings, knowing just how Amaryllis would react to having her fur soiled by the gastly. If there was one thing Amaryllis prided herself on it was her ability to always look pristine and nothing angered her more than when someone got her dirty. The trainer was not dissapointed as the lights began to flicker and a sudden blindingly bright light lit the center of the stadium, just where the ghost should've been.

Opal smiled as the second attack hit. "Way to go, Nezza. Keep pounding on 'em!" Though as excited as she was, the young woman had a small sense of dread in her. She may not last for long... Opal chided herself for not having faith in her partner and she looked to the Pokemon, who was sticking her tongue out at her opponent. She rolled her eyes. But as the powerful thunderbolt hit, Opal checked her mental math. Oh no.... Half of her HP is gone! The trainer grimaced and called out to Nerezza. "Hang in there, hon, and use Sludge Bomb again!"
True, Nerezza was fading fast. She was breathing heavily and was floating a little closer to the ground. But she still had enough strength in her to make a sassy remark. "Why not? Did I mess up your precious fur? Well, there's more where that came from, sweetheart." Energy slightly returning, Nerezza took the poisonous gases into a ball as before and added as much as she could. When she was sure that she could not hold it any longer, the Gastly aimed the ball at the Raichu and fired, praying to Arceus that it would hit.

Amaryllis stared the gastly down, pure loathing in her eyes, how dare that ghost soil her beautiful fur? It took only a moment for the raichu to comprehend that another of the cursed sludge balls was coming her way and she darted out of the way just before the ball hit where she had previously been standing. She turned to see the ghost and she stuck out her tongue, as the other pokemon had previously done to her "You might want to work on your aim." she called while waiting for a command.
Raina watched with slight amusement flickering in her eyes as the two pokemon bickered like 2nd graders, even sticking out their tongues at eachother. Soon though she was back to her normal, serious, self and she called to Amaryllis "Ammy, use thief again, show that ghost what you've got!".
As soon as the words reached her ears Amaryllis was dashing forward towards the ghost at a speed that made her appear to be nothing more than a blur, and soon she was striking at the ghost with purple hued paws once again.

Opal and Nerezza both growled as they saw the Sludge Bomb miss. Opal's was out of frustration and annoyance. Nerezza's, however, was at the snide remark of the Raichu's.
How dare she?! Nerezza thought. Eyes lowering to tiny slits of fury, she was about to reply to the Mouse Pokemon when she saw the next attack coming. The Gastly snarled and quickly dodged the Thief. She laughed and stuck her tongue out at the Raichu. "Honey, you better work on your aim."
Opal rolled her eyes. "If you are quite ready, Nezz..." Nerezza stopped from her sassing for a minute and gave her trainer her attention. Opal smiled. "Okay! Shadow Ball!" Nerezza took the darkness from her body, piled in a ball, and shot it at the Raichu. It better hit that be-otch, the Gastly thought spitefully.

Amaryllis growled angrily as her attack missed but she was so caught up in her anger she missed the build up of energy that the gastly sent at her and it struck her almost head on, luckily for the raichu her opponent was getting tired and it wasn't too painful although the suction she felt from the ball was scaring the life out of her she managed to get away as it faded and she shook herself to refocus.
Raina watched in exasperation as Amaryllis huffed angrily about missing her mark and shook her head when the attack hit her raichu. "Amaryllis! Stay FOCUSED! Use mudslap!" she commanded and watched as her raichu executed the command.
Ammy had already refocused by the time Raina's words reached her and she flicked her tail as if to say "I know already!" before she ran towards the wet sand and swung her tail, sending large globs of it flying at the gastly.

Nerezza grinned spitefully when her attack hit the Mouse Pokemon. "Had enough yet, cupcake?" But the Gastly was breathing heavily now. Her HP was dwindling fast. She looked to her trainer for help and so did not see the imminent attack of the Raichu, which turned to be super effective. Nerezza was knocked back several feet and hit the ground hard, despite being intangible. She gritted her sharp teeth and muttered to herself. That b***h...
Opal saw the attack come hard and she ran over to where her Gastly had landed. She didn't look too good, and the trainer could see her gases dispersing farther and farther away. Opal was frantic. "No, no, no, Nezz, don't quit on me now! We got a long ways to go yet. Come on, hon!" Despite herself trying to maintain her control, Opal could feel the tears coming to her eyes. She knew by now that it was a lost cause, but they had one last chance, and they would fight to the end. Gently, the young woman coaxed her partner up and smiled weakly. "Do your best, Nezza! Now use Hypnosis!"
Nerezza could hardly float. She was so out of breath that it hurt. But she knew that she had to show that Raichu who was boss. With a small groan, the Gastly used the last remaining reservoir of strength of her psychic abilities and shot a beam of sleeping energy at her opponent. Please, hit her. Please...
