Before answering that question, let us define fear Fear 1 archaic : frighten 3 : to have a reverential awe of 4 : to be afraid of : expect with alarm source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fear
What do we fear? We are afraid of many things, there is health, death, economic status and many more. One may think, it is not wrong in the eyes of God to fear, for it is a natural human emotion/instinct. If that is what you think, then you are wrong, to fear is think that your problem is bigger than what your God is, and to think of that is to doubt in his power, and doubt is a sin, is it not?
Worry
4 : to afflict with mental distress or agitation : make anxious
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/worry
What do we worry about? Troubled are we in others' problems, our lifestyle ,your impression on others, or even your salvation. I tell you, to worry in others problems is in vain, others naively think that to worry about others is a good thing, pleasing in the eyes of God. However, to show concern to others, is the one that God wants of us.(note, those are two different things) Many people worry about what people think of them, again I tell you, it is in vain. What people think about you does not make an impact on you, may affect your career, others judgment their treatment to you, but it does not affect things of greater interest such as, your impression to God, your relationship with Him and your salvation(I am not saying that you are not to give a good impression on others, you are supposed to, to set a good example to others, but must not take higher priority with spiritual matters) As for worry on salvation, that is self-explanatory To worry about anything, is to doubt God’s ability, His promises, and His love for you. Therefore, to worry is to sin.
In the New and Old Testaments, we are called not to worry or fear, it has been seen through the many prophets, through Jesus and his disciples, and as Christians, we must do the same.
I’m asking for a verse delivery, Spike, would you do the honors? biggrin
God bless us all, Zarfione

Job 28:28 (New American Standard Bible) 28"And to man He said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.'" Revelation 14:6-8 (New American Standard Bible) 6And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; 7and he said with a loud voice, " Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters." 8And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality." Deuteronomy 6:13a (New American Standard Bible) 13"You shall fear only the LORD your God..."
The only one we should be fearing is God, not the things of this world. If you're secure enough in your salvation, nothing should make you scared because you know where you're going when you die and you know just how powerful God is. No power in this world can even begin to amount to the power of the Wrath of God, so if there's anyone to fear, it's the Lord. Just a little thought I don't think many people consider anymore.

Fear, as it appears in the Bible, is used in a way that in our culture it isn't often used for. We aren't supposed to be scared because God is so powerful, we are to respect Him for that power and love Him. It's one of those things that is easier to understand in it's original language and context. confused

problems usually encountered when things get translated sweatdrop
I think what Spike(why do I keep on typing Spick?) is trying to say is that, many people today don't mind God and/or even underestimate him just because it is "seemingly" that he does nothing. So we should fear God in that sense.
Am I right Spike?

Hmm, interesting thread. Zar, (can I call you that? 'Tis simpler than typing out your whole username...) I think what that verse means is that we need to know that God can act, to know that He's not dead. I found an interesting article on it. http://www.taize.fr/en_article341.html

I was referring to this verse in Matthew:Matthew 10:28 (New American Standard Bible) 28"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. I was trying to make the point that if we're going to fear anyone, it'd be God, and not things of the world. Many people underestimate the power of God and think He's powerless when in fact he's just let humanity, to a point, lead itself to destruction. Sometimes God's judgment can be not doing anything at all.
I agree with you Haven, and that's the kind of point I was trying to put across. Not a fear in the sense of being scared to death of God, but a reverence for Him. However, for those who aren't saved, they should fall under the fear in terms of what I first said because they're the ones who are going to have to face God and pay for their own sins. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself more clear.
