This is an RP between:

Vyn and Xiu

Location: Barton Bookfair

Weather: Windy/Chilly
PostPosted: Thu Oct 29, 2009 7:36 am

Xiu was reading a book. Or at least, the white frei seemed to be reading a book. In truth, the white raevan was waiting rather impatiently for his guardian to get here.

Hazeline’s fifteen minutes late thought Xiu with a small frown. That’s not like her .

Blue eyes scanned the horizon once again and Xiu made an impatient growl before looking surprised. He had never made an impatient growl. …

My temper has been a little short as of late… mused the raevan with a thoughtful flick of his wings. I wonder…

A familiar figure caught the attention of the white raevan just then. “Vyn?” said Xiu to himself in surprise. What was the rose raevan doing here? Was she heading to the book fair as well?

Curious, the white frei floated up to the red raevan and gave her a friendly tap on the shoulder. “Vyn, it has been a while,” said Xiu with a smile.

The chill wind tousled the frei’s hair into a mess as she stood on the outskirts of the bookfair. Her hands were folded into a light cross and an indifferent expression was on her face. The oncoming cold of the winter months always left the delicate rose chilled to the core and thus she was tightly wrapped up in a thick jumper – not exactly fashionable or flattering, but she wasn’t expecting to be meeting anyone like Lucia who Vyn felt she needed to look nice for. She was just out to pick up more dog food for Thorn. She’d been dropped off here by Ethan about five or so minutes ago and had floated to the store and had expected him to just drive around the block and pick her up again, but he seemed to be taking his time in getting back here...

She shivered slightly, wishing he would hurry up before her ear-tips got any chillier.

The tap on her shoulder and her name being spoken made her jolt. Her wings flicked and she swivelled around to face whoever it was; when she saw the familiar pale face and clear blue eyes she returned his smile. “Oh, hello Xiu.” She tilted her head to peer behind Xiu for the presence of the woman, Hazeline, who had been accompanying him the past times that the shadow had bumped into Xiu. “No guardian?” She asked out of curiosity, the smile still faintly present on her expression. Perhaps Xiu was considered old enough to go out on his own now, if she remembered correctly he had still been fairly young at their previous meetings. Either way, she was glad that the boy had spotted her and had spoken to her – it meant she had some company until Ethan pulled up at least.

Xiu gave a soft laugh of delight. “No, no guardian at the moment; but I see that you are…unaccompanied as well, Vyn,” said Xiu with a teasing look; the bad temper being forgotten for the time being. “How are you?”

The blue eyes then shifted to the bag of dog food. “How’s Thorn?” asked Xiu politely. “Has the puppy grown since our last meeting?”

Then, as though a thought had only just occurred to the white frei. “Do you need help carrying that, Vyn?”

For once Vyn could reply to the white frei’s inquiry with something positive. “I am good thank you Xiu.” She paused, smiled and added, “I am looking forward to meeting some of my friends later this week. Lucia and Melisande. Have you met them?” She thought that Lucia would not be a perfect match for Xiu since her vibrant punkish nature would probably clash with Xiu’s mild manners but Melisande and the stone winged raevan would probably get on quite well. “And of course I am happy to see you too.” She added with a light nod of the head accompanied with a delicate smile.

The offer to carry her bags extended by the other raevan was a pleasant one and Vyn felt warmed as she passed over the baggage. Ethan had once spent a good five minutes or so commending Xiu for this type of actions. Good old fashioned gentleman, that’s what Ethan had called him. At the time Vyn had somewhat brushed it off, more interested in her music no doubt, but now she realised where her guardian had been coming from. It was nice to have a simple yet pleasing offer like that. “Thank you Xiu.” She responded, swinging her arms lightly; glad to be free of the relatively heavy weight of the dog food cans. “Thorn is well,” she thought back to when Xiu had met him.. It hadn’t been too long after when she’d first gotten him – he’d been barely more than a smidgen of ugly-cute black fur. Now he had grown into a bigger ball of ugly-cute fur. “He has grown up, yes. And he doesn’t pee inside the house anymore either.” The latter portion of her reply was said with a trace of pride; it had taken many weeks of training and disappointing puddles before the pup had been housetrained but Vyn was proud of the dog none the less.

How have you been Xiu?” She ran a casual glance over her companion. He seemed to have matured in the time since she had last seen him. Some of the young naivety of the younger raevans had left his face and he held himself in a way that made Vyn suspect that he was much more worldly wise.

Xiu smiled at the other’s reply. The white frei was glad to hear that the rose raevan was doing well. Vyn had seemed so quiet, distant (and possibly sad?) back then.

“Lucia, I have met,” said Xiu with a slight nod of his head in affirmation. “We met each other in a graveyard; an odd place for a first meeting I know; but there, Lucia’s strength really shone through,” said Xiu recalling the cat raevan’s courage at confronting the enraged ghost and helping a ghost child in the process. “She gave me my first lesson in the supernatural, actually,”

At the mention of Melisande’s name however, the white merely tilted his head politely. “And I have not met Melisande, Vyn. Is she a raevan too? Her name certainly has a nice ring to it. And…,” Here, the white frei paused to look playfully at the rose frei. “An ‘All Girls Get Together’, Vyn?” Xiu didn’t know why but the thought of Vyn hanging out with Lucia and Melisande; doing whatever it is that girls do; amused him. Did they hang out in malls, drinking expensive coffee and chatting like he’d seen so many teenagers do or would they be giggling over an array of makeup sets? Or…perhaps they would be looking through those teenage magazines with teenage heartthrobs posted on every page (personally, Xiu had thought that in that category, the raevan males beat the human males flat)? So many possibilities and yet…Xiu found it hard to imagine Vyn taking part in any of these social activities.

This made focusing on the next subject matter easier. Accepting the bag of food from Vyn, Xiu listened as the rose frei spoke fondly of Thorn. “Thorn sounds like handful,” said Xiu with a small laugh. “You must be really fond of him, Vyn,”

“And I have been…fine,” added Xiu after a moment of consideration. Such a lot has happened recently but none of them made for a nice conversation with Vyn. Rivener killing a man, Xiu developing a taste for blood and Lazarus…

Lazarus…

Pale hands gripping the bag containing the dog food a little tighter, Xiu wondered how the Sigel was holding up.

“Yes, I have been fine,” replied Xiu in a voice with forced conviction.

She was a little surprised that Xiu had already met her cat-like friend and seemed to be on good terms with her, but then again Xiu was an amiable fellow and Lucia wasn’t hostile – just slightly different to the norm. As for his query about Melisande, “Yes, she’s a raevan. She’s more grown than us.” She waved a hand casually over the base of her bust where Melisande’s torso continued and hers and Xiu’s stopped. “She was the person who gave me Thorn as a present.” At this she smiled fondly, thinking about Pasha’s offer to walk their dogs together soon.

When Xiu inquired about what she and the girls would be doing when they met up she shrugged bashfully. Melisande had wanted to go to the park and Lucia had arranged for them to mod some clothes. Did those arrangements count as an ‘All Girls Get Together’? She wasn’t sure. These planned social excursions were rather alien to the rose. In fact, it was the first time in her three year life that her social diary was actually getting plump and it was a weirdly satisfying but foreign experience. Thus, rather than answering his question she skipped the reply and answered his following question about Thorn instead, pasting a happy look over her slightly confused one.

Yes, he’s a very good friend; More than just a pet.” Her affection for the canine showed through clearly as the girl’s expression was one of obvious contentment as she offhandedly watched the traffic pass. However, as Xiu responded to how he had been she broke her absent minded observation of the road to c**k her head at him. He seemed as though he was not speaking the whole truth. She was unarguably very experienced in hiding bad experiences when asked and something about the way he clenched his hands around the bag hinted that the stone winged frei was not as well as he implied. But knowing how it was to be in a position like that meant that she knew better than to pry.

Attempting to salvage the conversation before it lapsed into awkward silence Vyn nodded at the bookfair stalls. “Why are you here Xiu? Planning to buy any books?

Was his expression that transparent? Xiu guessed it was seeing that Vyn was looking at him in a rather odd manner. Shifting the bag slightly, Xiu turned to face Vyn with what he hoped was a reassuring smile. The question about him being here was also a welcomed change.

“Bought them,” replied Xiu with a chuckle as he held up a couple of books. “Hazeline thought I could do with a little reward for helping her lift a couple of boxes yesterday. Odd though, I never thought I’d be able to lift them initially. Perhaps…I may have grown stronger,” said Xiu with a touch of pride in his voice.

A familiar face in a posh car was then spotted down the road and Xiu gave Vyn a soft chuckle. “Looks like your guardian is here, Vyn. Let me just bring these cans over to the car and see you off, then,”

Xiu certainly seemed proud of himself for lifting the boxes and Vyn couldn’t help but examine the frei’s arms. They weren’t toned like Rivener’s or even Zul’s.. But she took his word for it and was pleased for him, judging by the reward and pleased expression it meant a lot to the oriental boy. “What books are they?” She peered at them, frowning at them... They weren’t familiar to her; though the only books she saw were those displayed in shops windows; the newest page turners from acclaimed authors or trashy romances that sold in their thousands to the mass of love hungry teenage girls. These books, well, all of the books at the bookfair were second-hand and worn, not very appealing to the girl who was used to everything being bought brand spanking new.

However, before she could ask further questions about Xiu’s purchases her guardian was pulling up in the car. The window rolled down smoothly and Ethan’s face was clear to see, an expression of pleased surprised on his face. “Hello Xiu, fancy seeing you here. Have you been talking to Vyn?” He glanced over the pair and noted the fact the boy was carrying Vyn’s bag for her, instantly his face split to reveal his clean-cut white teeth. “You’re such a gentleman Xiu. It’s good to see that nowadays. Do you need a lift anywhere? I’d be more than happy to drop you off?

Vyn opened the car door and slipped inside... It had been pleasant meeting Xiu... But now that Ethan had arrived they were holding up traffic. “Thank you for the company.” She said, taking the bag from him before closing the door behind her. She opened the window afterwards to smile at him as Ethan started the car. “Perhaps I’ll see you again soon Xiu?

“I think they are…books that have never really caught on or…aren’t published anymore,” said the white frei thoughtfully. “They certainly aren’t new and I do not think that they are classics,” said the frei with a smile. “Nevertheless, books were made to be enjoyed and I think it is a shame to forget a written story merely because it isn’t in production anymore,”

“And no thank you, sir,” said Xiu giving Ethan a polite nod as he handed the bag of dog food over to Vyn. “Hazeline, she’ll be here soon and of course, Vyn! We must certainly meet each other again,” said Xiu smiling at Vyn. “Good bye till then,”
