So I post my photography in the arenas and what ratings do I get? LIKE A 3/5! And it's actual photography! But Some retarded myspace "Self Portrait" Gets a 5/5! I'm am totally outraged!
Make me feel better?

its rediculous, but cameras are available to almost everyone, and so the actual art of photography is taken a little for granted. In an artshow in my old highschool there were guys joking about how they could take a better picture than one of the girls who was in photo all four years of HS with his camera phone. saying things like "Oh, look at me! i'm an artist!" and wiping out their phones.
Not all self portraits taken "Myspace style" are bad. some are actually really good. its a valid technique of taking a self portrait, but the arena, i think is more for art photography than portraits.
It gets really frustrating, but its something you have to deal with in photography. rolleyes one of those unfortunate facts of life.

Post them in photography websites to get a more constructive feedback. razz
You're in Gaia, you don't expect Ansel Adams to give you feedback from here. The self-portrait is probably of a cute teenager and a bunch of kids gave her a 5. lol

Heh ya that is a problem. Often when your stuff is too good, you'll get rated down because people think you're posting some pro's work.
Not to brag but I get called a image thief pretty regularly in the arenas. Anyway, you might try flickr for better advice.

It totally discredits you when you don't deserve it and people rate you down after they comment that because they believe them. rolleyes

The Arenas are a terrible place to go for real ratings/critique.
Just stay within more serious art communities, or small groups like this. =)

All of you are right. Gaia is most certainly not the place to get real crits. I was just having an extremely stressful day. sweatdrop Thanks for dealing with my sudden burst of outrage.
