Today was the sort of day that Aulus enjoyed the most. The skies were calm and the weather warm...now if only he could find his siblings to play with. Of course, lately they hadn't seemed to keen on it...or him either, for that matter. That made him sad. It used to be he'd insite them all to tumbling and rolling, but now they left him mostly alone. Had he changed so much? He didn't feel like it.

As it was, he'd set to wandering alone around the pride's lands. He knew better than to go far, especially now that he was...well if something bad happened to him, his father would never forgive him. Provided he lived long enough to be punished, that is. Here and there he saw cubs his age playing...that brightened him a bit. With no lessons to tend to, surely he could find SOME excitement.

When he came upon someone's tail poking just so from under a bush, he couldn't help himself. Propriety and dignity aside, he threw himself at the appendage, making as fierce a roar he could as he latched onto it, biting and nibbling playfully.

Amandus didn't like this weather. It was too sunny and too warm. He wanted cold, drizzle and gloomy That would make him feel that much better. So, he was hiding fom the sunlight, waiting for it to go down so it would be the perfect playtime. Since he was just a juve, he knew nothing of the royal line, nor did he care too. It's not like he'd meet any of them, right? Right. He didn't have to watch himself unless he was invovled with mother.

Snorting at that thought, he was shaken at a roar and someone latching onto his tail. Growling and hissing in the bush, he threw himself at whatever had been attacking him, tooth and claw. He swiped, wanting to get that thing off of him. Once he was sure the thing had let go, Amandus pulled free and rushed out f the bush to see who it was.

".....What the..? Why's a lion eating my tail? Go eat your own tail, huh?" He grumbled quietly.

Aulus thought the cub he'd latched on to was fighting back a bit roughly, but that only made him smile. He hadn't gotten to really play in so long, it felt strangely good to get a bit battered. He released the tail after a few moments and traded blows with the other youngster...a leopard, it seemed.

"I was not eating it...Just playing. What's wrong? You do not like to play?" He struck the familiar pose he'd used to use to entice his siblings into tussling. He was young and eager for the exercise. The fact that he shouldn't be too rough or put himself in any kind of danger, even that another cub could cause, flittered out of his mind in the delight of finding someone who wasn't afraid to fight back. "Come on then, let's see what you can do!"

Of course he liked to play. Watching the other get in a position, the leopard arched ab row and laughed. What the hell? Playing? Amandus didn't play, he wrestled. Getting into position, he launched himself at the unknown lion and aimed for the ear with his teeth, claws unsheathed so the other would know just how he played.

"Better like it rough!' he called out, grinning like an idiot. It'd been a while since he encountered anyone but family, and certainly never met anyone else in this pride. He was beginning to think it was nearly deserted.

Aulus launched himself at the same time that the other cub did, and grunted as he connected. He fought the urge to squeak when Amandus' teeth found his ear (princes didn't show that they were hurting, after all!) and he let his claws slip out in retaliation. He didn't 'like it tough' per say, but he didn't expect an easy fight.

He bunched his hind legs and thrust them into the dirt, trying to get the other boy rolled over onto his back. Of course he was a bit younger, a bit smaller, but that didn't mean it wouldn't work! He had to do his best after all! "So...what's your name?" He asked mid-battle, before promptly getting a mouthful of fur and tugging on it.

The connection made him grunt as well, but he tugged at the ear, ignoring the claws. That's what Amandus was used to, teeth and claws. When fighting with his other siblings, blood was drawn sometimes. That's why Amandus was going to be a warrior when he grew up. He wanted to see battle.

He nearly rolled over when he was prompted and then growled. No, he wouldn't be pushed around by someone younger than him! Growling again at the tugging on his fur, he twisted, getting off the other. Shaking himself, he smirked. "Amandus. Remember that name, I'll be big one day! Everyone will know it!

"Amandus huh? Well you might get big, but I will be bigger! I am Aulus!" The lion cub was unrelenting as the leopard stood and shook himself free. As soon as he felt the fur slip from his mouth he was on the other again, biting here and there and scrabbling with his feet. What was it he'd been taught about battle now? When the enemy retreats, press them further still, until they take flight? Something like that...

Well he didn't expect the leopard to sprout wings and fly (did anyone when they lost a fight? He hadn't seen it yet if so) but he was sure gonna give the battle his all.

He mewled and growled, scrambling back to keep up the fight, tugging at Aulus' ear and clawing his shoulder blades, though not hard enough to break skin. This leopard would never give up! He would win this battle, if not the war!

He got a mouth full of mane and tugged hard, probably enough to pull a few stands loose and annoy the other, but nothing serious. "Come, on! Wimp!"

Alright! Now this was a fight! No holds barred, kinda, he'd never be allowed to play like this if the others were around, especially dad, or one of the nannies...He cried out, feeling a few of his precious strands of mane tugged loose. "Hey! Let that alone!" He growled, attacking with renewed fervor. He twisted himself up on the other cub, trying to tangle the leopard's feet with his own to bring them both down.

Perhaps getting a bit too excited in the heat of the moment, he grabbed a bit harder than he should with his claws. Startled by his own fierceness, he quickly tugged them back from his new friend and leapt away, eying the other closely for any damage.

"Who says Let that alone?" he mocked, laughing and then wincing when his tuft was tugged on. That was precious to him! With a low growl he flipped backwards and when the claws went in just a bit to deep for his taste. Eyeing the other, he felt blood dripping from where he was clawed, but not a massive amount. Instead of being mad, however, the leopard grinned and laughed, getting even more excited.

He walked right up to Aulus and head butted him in a way of greeting and friendship. "Dude, you need to brush up on your fighting. You let your emotions take over. Just do necessary damage, not useless. 's ok, though. I'll teach you if you'd like."

Aulus had been afraid at first of how the other would react. What if he'd already lost this new friend?! That'd be terrible...He shuffled his feet and looked down, ashamed.

Wait, what? He looked up just in time to get a face full of the leopard's head. "Oof!" He stepped back, afraid, then saw the smile. Oh good! It couldn't have been that bad then. He listened, a bit amused but mostly relieved, to the other. "You teach me? Maybe, but I have an ins-...Ah. Well, that would be great, actually." He raised a paw to pat at the boy's face. "So...friends, right?"

He smirked a bit and nodded. Friends indeed. More like Aulus wouldn't be able to get rid of him. Sure, Amandus was expected to get some guy friends, but this was his first! This guy? He'd stick to this lion like glue. "Best buds, if you can beat me one day," he said with a grin and a smirk. "So, besides chewing on random tails, what else do you do, Lus?" He asked, shortening the name. He rather liked it shorter.

"Hey, hey. Do you like girls?" he was curious as to if he was the only one who still didn't trust them. After living with his mother so long, girls just didn't seem like an option in his head.

Aulus frankly beamed. A friend! A real one too! Not one who liked him for his title or where he was from...right? That was good. It made him feel better than he'd thought it would! Better than the fight had, even. "Oh I will beat you alright! Just you wait!" He thumped a paw on the ground challenging. "I am sure of it!"

He paused, wondering who the leopard was talking to, then realized 'Lus' was himself. "Lus...? Ah. Well I..." Hmm. He fidgeted a bit, thinking. "I spend a lot of time with my family. My siblings...they are not around as much now, but they were, once. I used to play with them. I spend most of the time learning, and working with my father." He blanched a bit, obviously not too keen on spending so much time in lessons. "I do not get to play much...that is why I am glad I found you! As for girls..." He shrugged. "I do not know many. My sisters are alright. I don't know any others my age to judge though."

He laughed a bit as the nicknamed seemed to confuse the lion. Did no one but Amandus shorten ut? How weird. "So, you don't really know either?" He frowned at that. Not very helpful. But Aulus got to work with his father, that must be exciting. "I don't get to see my dad very often... Usually only mom and she is no fun. Which is why I don't really care for girls. Sure, a guy's got to keep his line going, right? But I don't like them!" He snorted. Girls had some kind of illness or something that they thought was 'charm' but it wasn't really.

Shuddering at the thought of having a girlfriend, the orange leopard stretched out sore muscles. It had been a while since anyone had played that long with him. "So, we've so got to start practicing together. You going to be a warrior, too? You've got the potential for it."

Aulus shrugged. He really didn't have much to go on by way of what girls were like. His mother was nice, his sisters too, but that was all he knew. He loved those females unconditionally, he couldn't say how he'd feel about the rest yet.

"Really? That is a shame. Half of keeping one's line alive comes from learning from our parents...Your father should spend more time with you." He spent a moment thinking to himself, and was summarily startled when the leopard went on. "Ah. Be a warrior? Er..." He didn't want to tell Amandus the truth, and that bothered him. What if he lost his friend because of something beyond his control? It hadn't been his choice to become the heir after all. But lying was bad too...Well, a half-truth was better than a lie, right? Being able to fight was part of being Caeser so... "Something like that, yes. I intend to be able to defend myself and those dear to me." That being the whole pride, of course.

He snorted at the bit abut his father and rolled his eyes. That mode changed, however, when Aulus continued talking. "Awesome... I want to be like that, too!" Well, wasn't he just a little mimic. "I'm becoming a warrior to protect the pride and my little sisters. Though they're weird, I know they can't take care of themselves. Mom, dad and my brothers? They can. Momma taught me how to fight." Not entirely true, but the other didn't need to know that.

Amandus laid down on his stomach and sighed contentedly; the earth cool under his fur, seeping to his skin. "Anyway, like... .....Don't tell anyone, ok? But... I don't see myself being with a girl. They're to weak and helpless. I don't want to spend my time protecting someone who can't even try to protect themselves. You know? Unless it's my sisters." What he didn't say was that he saw himself with another male. One willing to protect himself and Amandus. Equality is what he was striving for. But, since he'd told his biggest secret, the leopard boy got all embarrassed and said a quick, hasty goodbye before running off without much else. How was he supposed to talk to someone after that?
