As some of you may know, I lived within the Navajo reservation for most of my school days. There have been a number of batshit insane happenings, most dealing with the dark arts of our culture and people that use the skins of animals to take on their traits. Thats the biggest source of stories, the yanagloshis, or "those that wander about carelessly." Like mentioned above, they usually don a skin of an animal and go about causing a ruckus, and are responsible/blamed for the hexing of people or unexplained sickness in people.

If you try to shoot at them with a projectile-type weapon, you will miss. If you try to chase them, you will be outrun. Luckily, since they usually strike someone that they know, they will try to stay anonymous so they'll flee if they're spotted by someone.

I've heard many different stories by relatives involving strange creatures that were caught by some luck that were large dog sized, appearing like a dog, except with human hands. One of my aunts told of a cat like creature watching her from the small kitchen window one night. Another aunt recalled a large white buffalo-sized animal running along her school bus as a classmate and the bus driver freaked out coming back from home one night (bus rides home will sometimes stretch far into the night).

Now most of these are hearsay and I thought "wow, they must have active imaginations" because those stories were quite out there. I would've brushed those all off if it weren't for one night:

One year way back in the ninties, I say the early ninties, just after the 4th of July my uncles decided to have a well-being ceremony. The Native American Church is practiced weekly, with the ceremony involving the setting up of a tee-pee and singing songs all night with the holy consumption of peyote. Of course there's a LOT more to it, but anyways I decide to sit this one out. Me and my cousin stayed at his house which is down hill from the ceremony, about 500 yards away. Nothing exciting happens during the first part of the night/ceremony and we can hear the drum being beat so we fall asleep.

Sometime around 4 a.m. there was some commotion that woke us both up. A couple of my uncles were in the house and my cousin was already up, and everyone was more up then they should be. I couldn't stop any of my uncles to ask what was going on so I asked my cousin, to which he responded that a "skin walker" was interrupting the ceremony. The detested being was shouting from the hills surrounding the ceremony site and throwing the participants off the precedings. When some of my uncles went out to investigate, they saw a four-legged animal around the hills that scurried away. Soon after they came back down to the house and got some floodlights and presumably some weapons to scare him off.

Thinking that was that, me and my cousin started to watch some cartoons that were on. I lazily watched as Dave started to doze off. Just then I heard something approaching, sounding just like horse hoofs galloping toward the house. Just as I heard it getting louder and closer, they stopped for a split second... and reappeared ON THE ROOF. I will never forget that sound, just a clop-clop-ing of what seemed like a horse just stepping around on the roof above. My mouth hung open for what seemed ages, just listening. After what seemed like turning around, the thing stepped off the roof and galloped away just as it came. "Dave" I said to my cousin. "Did you hear that" I said to which he immediately replied "yea."

It took us half an hour to build up enough courage to open the front door. By then the sun was just before sunrise and we could see alot. We still grabbed some left over flasher fireworks and threw them out the crack in the front door before we opened it further.

Later on in the morning we couldn't find any horse prints around the house we were in, but the house a couple dozen feet away had the strangest foot prints, with what seemed to be half bear-half human prints. That house had two sleeping people in it, one that awoke to see a figure hunched over the sleeping person, then calling out to it scaring it away. He said it vanished out the window like a piece of fabric was yanked out the window. Soon after the incident the person that was asleep came down with cancer and died.
