The mission had been to pick up some seasonally appropriate clothing for Cailean. Jamie had assigned North and Lot to take the rambunctious tyke shopping. Being the captain, Jamie was sticking around the ship to help with the winterization. Since they would be staying in port at Gaia through the cold season, there was a lot of work to be done.

It was lucky that both North and Lot had a sense of humor, especially when it came to Cailean. Because the small fox-girl was simply not interested in picking out a warm woolen jacket or mittens or snow-boots or hats with tassels on the top. There were far more interesting things to do, at least as far as Cailean was concerned.

At the moment, the far more interesting thing was hiding in the racks of clothes, trying to sneak from one rack to another and elude both North and Lot who seemed slightly less amused now that their charge had dissapeared on them. Cailean cackled softly to herself with glee. This was a fun game!

Caring for two children, Vera reflected, was not much harder than caring for one. She had to make double the PB&J for lunch, give double the baths, and read double the bedtime stories- though that may have been Nazrin feeling extra clingy more than anything else. At least Nazrin had someone else to cling to now, which made Vera feel a little less frazzled.

Until she realized that Will had been wearing the same thing for nearly a week and most of Nazrin's clothes were dresses. Grumbling the whole time, she took the afternoon off, picked the two up from school, and took them to the nearest department store.

"Let's find what you need, Will," Vera mumbled, looking through racks of warm sweaters and shirts in bright, primary colors.

Nazrin was holding onto the edge of Vera's jacket, watching as the clothes on the rack whizzed past her face. As one passed her, she thought she saw something- someone?- moving on the other side. "Something there?" she asked, pointing in front of her.

Vera didn't hear her, but Will did. He wasn't particularly happy about being bundled into Nazrin's purple corduroy overalls and pink turtleneck, nor about being taken out of school before the fun classes that came after it, and he was more than ready for a distraction. Even though he didn't see what Nazrin was pointing at, he charged through the long shirts and looked for... well, anything interesting, really.

A button-nose, two bright eyes and a pair of perked up fox ears met Will as soon as he ventured into secret jungle of the clothes racks. Cailean was a bit suprised to find another child invading her hideaway, but she soon realized that it would be far more fun this way.

Pressed nose-to-nose with Will, the little Kitsune gave a giggle and poked him none too gently in the shoulder. "Tag!" With that she scrambled off in an attempt to escape the pursuit she hoped was coming.

What was that? Will looked at the girl- mostly her ears, but then the rest of her. But before he could ask who she was or why she was there, she poked him and ran away.

Well, this definitely qualified as interesting.

Will was tempted to charge right after the girl, but then he had a better idea. Sticking his arm back through the shirts, he batted at Nazrin's hand. "Tag!"

Nazrin shuddered as the clothes appeared to be grabbing her, but she relaxed when she saw it was just Will. "Tag? Here?"

"Yes!" Not waiting for her to argue, he ran away, hoping to catch up with that other girl.

For a brief instant Nazrin looked up at Vera, who was still talking to herself and looking at with the large selection of clothes. Then, with giggle and a shriek, she plunged through the clothes and looked for signs of movement.

Cai's movement was marginally hampered by the fact that she was determined to avoid being caught by North and Lot who were hunting for her at the other end of the children's department. She giggled and leapt, bouncing low to the ground and finally paused, peering around. Had he taken the bait? Was the boy playing?

The rustling amongst the clothes told her that yes, he was indeed playing and she grinned as he emerged nearer to her. Then more rustling: it looked like he had managed to tag someone else! Shopping, Cailean decided, was significantly more fun than she'd given it credit for.

"This way, mate!" The little pirate crowed, gesturing for Will to follow her as she plunged through a rack of winter coats and emerged in the labyrinthine shelves of the shoe department.

Ah, there she was! Will pushed his way through the coats and was briefly amazed to find himself surrounded by shelves of boxes and a funny, leathery smell. But better yet, the girl was there. "Not It," he said quickly, so she wouldn't run again. Yet. It would be more fun if they could talk for a minute before Nazrin caught up.

Nazrin saw the rustling too, but there was a lot of it. There was Mommy looking through shirts, and lots of other adults and even some kids. But not the kid she was looking for, so she kept moving, poking her head in between racks coats and pants. There was no sign of them yet, but she wasn't deterred. "I'm gonna tag you," she called, running past a selection of clearance summer clothes.

Silver tail waving excitedly, Cailean crawled over to Will and gave him a very cautious and animal-like sniff. He seemed to pass muster. "M' Cailean the Abominable." She said, stumbling a bit over the title. Abominable was not easy to pronounce but she liked it better than 'Cailean the Terrible'. At least, for today. "Whats yer name?" She added, ears swiveling like antennae to catch sounds of the approaching Nazrin.

Not quite sure why she was smelling him, Will nonetheless thought it couldn't hurt to smell back. Of course, he couldn't smell anything other than new shoes. "I'm Will," he said simply. Easy names were best. Nazrin's name was a bit tricky for him, so he came up with a different one for her. "That's Rina," he said, pointing out into the store in general.

As he thought about what to shorten Cailean's name to, he froze, and then took three very quick steps backwards. "Y-you're a bomb?" Vera had told him and Nazrin about bombs and how they could be disguised as other things until they went BOOM. He didn't think one could look like a girl, but she must know if she was a bomb. "Are you gonna 'splode?"

There! Passing by a row of shelves, Nazrin was sure she heard Will's voice. The trouble was that there was no way under or through these shelves, so she ran around the long way and hoped that he'd still be there when she got to the other side.

The foxlette laughed. "Ye kin call me Cai." She said, pronouncing it 'kay'. "An' I'm not a bomb. I'm Abominable. That means really awful." She gave the boy a broad grin, clearly pleased at the thought of being wicked and bad.

"Rina? The one whats after us?" Her ears swiveled again, picking up the sounds of shoppers. She didn't hear Nazrin's approach, masked as it was by the adult voices echoing through the shelves. "Is she yer sister?"
