Sport is the key to physical and mental health. That’s what Alessa’s always been told. Her activity of choice is completely separated from rules, and is one of humanity’s oldest sport…
… running.
Or, rather, in this case, jogging, in all its stereotypical glory.
This park in Destiny City was perfect for this. Broad paths, lush grass, just the right amount of trees so that no path is completely obscured, but enough protection in case of sudden rain. So enthusiastic to try it, she entered the park, wearing a purple sweatsuit reminiscing of the 80’s. In that bright day… rather, cloudy but still warm day… Alessa didn’t need any music for motivation. A few small jumps in front of the gate, and she started running at the steady pace she was used to, watching the few people around, hoping to find someone her age to talk to outside her school.

It was another wonderful day - much to this particular green-eyed girl's delight - warm and pleasant and all around great... she was starting to form a habit of a walk daily due to this city's awesome weather! Of course, this might also be because she couldn't see the clouds above, but hey, it wasn't raining, so what did she care?

Raja happily pranced along before her, the harness keeping the guide-dog at a reasonable distance from the human. Lilith pondered finding a nice bench and letting her companion run a bit on her own while she took a rest. The thought brought a grin to her face, pace quickening to a not-quite-jog, knowing her limits but still wanting to keep forcing the job to stick to the slow walk forever. Besides, there wasn't much to trip over on this neck of the paths, and if something had changed since the day before, Raja was trained to lead her mistress around it and keep her on even ground. So hey, what excuse didn't she have to have a little fun?

Alessa’s path and pace naturally brought her near the couple. Raja only helped attracting the jogger towards them. No matter what, she still was a sucker for pets. “Oh, doggie!”
The brunette adjusted her speed to Lilith’s. It only required her to slow down a bit, though she didn’t notice the girl’s disability. She started the conversation enthusiastically: “Hi! I love your dog! What breed is he?”
Aaahh, God bless dogs, universal discussions starters.

Now, she made it a polite habit to not key in on every little sound and word she heard around her. Just because she could cycle through the conversations didn't mean she had to eavesdrop. A girl's voice near her was just another incident of this: notice it's there, then quickly zone out to avoid intruding on something she had nothing to do with.

But when you can plainly hear someone jogging next to you, you pay a little more attention. You give them your full attention when you hear the same voice is talking to you. "Oh! Hello," she responded back simply, blinking blankly in the girl's direction. A friendly smile quickly shoved aside her shock to the random conversation. No interaction could be considered unwanted in her book, after all.

"She," was her quick correction, giggling before she continued, "and Raja is a Golden Retriever." Raja herself gave a happy little bark of greeting, though wasn't swayed from her job. She kept up her own jog, keeping a close eye on the path ahead to ensure nothing would trip up the girl. "Do you have any dogs?" Talk about the weather? Boring~! Talk about dogs? You've got a conversation that can span hours.

It was not easy finding someone for a casual chat during her jogging session. Alessa once had to stand your archetypal old creeper that only makes you want to run faster. Then, there was the snobby stranger with a much more expensive suit who insisted on pretending she could run twice as fast if she wanted to, and ran the New York’s marathon, and she also had this amazing celebrity-approved diet too, and the brunette should try the same since, obviously, jogging alone didn’t make her as thin as a skeleton. (The snobby kind also seemed to be strangely clingy, and very hard to get rid of without hurting your own ego in the process.)

On the contrary, most dog owners were awesome in her eyes.
Speaking of eyes, she hadn’t processed yet the other girl may have difficulty seeing. The fact Raja caught almost all her attention may have to do with that. “She’s a Golden Retriever? I thought she was a Labrador! She’s adorable!” It was rather easy to melt Alessa’s heart with cute animals and the like.
“I wish, but no… my father’s never been much of a dog lover.” She then asked the obligatory question: “Can I pet her?”

Raja was quick to vocalize again her enjoyment of all this attention. Her pace was light, almost like a prance as she preened a bit. Lilith just grinned. "Labrador was one of the options my parents were thinking of when they were first looking to get a dog. But Raja's personality just won them over and there's no way they could've said no." If the dog could grin, or float, or be glowing with how proud she was, oh by god, she would be. Heck, the way she walked now... was her chest puffed out a bit?

Lilith's expression quickly changed to one of sympathy when the girl confessed to a lack of such a wonderful companion. "Oh, I'm sorry. Have you tried taking him to a breeder to see some f the dogs you'd like... or does he just really not like dogs that much?" She winced at this prospect, her heart honestly going out to the girl. Never would she understand why some people just don't like canines. Of course, she couldn't fault a horrible experience with one, but not all dogs are bad.

"Sure you can," she responded with a laugh, slowing her pace a bit to make it easier for the other to reach Raja. "She's never opposed to getting some more love in her life... - oh! I'm sorry, I just realized I didn't know your name." And then vice versa. "I'm Lilith."

She did not shrug, but would have if she weren’t running already. “He fears a dog would ruin our apartment, as there isn’t always someone at home. Plus, well… he’s a bit afraid of dogs.” She waited a couple seconds before adding: “He’s not fond of small dogs, either. Oh, well…”
Alessa did not hesitate any instant before petting Lilith’s dog head with an affection she nonetheless held back. “Good girl Raja!”

“The name’s Alessa” answered the brunette, smiling, and still focused on Raja more than on Lilith. “So, huh, do you come here-"
Before she finished her sentence, she tripped on a half-crushed can of soda thrown negligently on the path. With her not looking where she was going, it was bound to happen. “Eeep!”

Her brow crinkled further, though now in a reluctance to relate at least somewhat to the father's concerns. She fell silent then, not sure exactly what to say in that situation. Sure she could argue a puppy would be more likely to make a mess unsupervised than an older dog... but if her dad was afraid o them... Lilith bit her lip, half listening as the other spoke to Raja.

Raja, however, gave Alessa a grateful canine kiss on the hand, before quickly returning her attention to the path. She slowed down, pressing herself more against Lilith with the presence of trash on the path. This in turn caused the girl to slow, sweeping her cane a bit more in front of her to avoid tripping - when her new companion halted in her question and let out a quick yelp. Instantly Lilith stopped jogging, head swiveling a bit to try and focus on where Alessa was. "Are you alright?" Raja, now not required to lead her mistress around, moved closer to Alessa, nudging her with her cold nose. "What happened?"

“I’m so clumsy” mumbled Alessa, getting up unharmed but annoyed. With a short burst of rage, she kicked the can away. As it flew in the opposite direction, her anger disspated. “I didn’t see that can.”
When she turned to Lilith again who was searching her from a few feet away, she finally noticed the cane. And she mentally facepalmed for being so interested in the dog and not enough in the owner. She petted Raja on the head and slowly walked towards the girl, her arms raised in front of her for no real reason other than, maybe, mimicry. “I’m here, I’m alright! Oh gosh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you were blind” she apologized. Wait, that last sentence sounded wrong. “I-I mean I didn’t notice…”
Had Lil been able to see her, she would have measured fully Alessa’s embarrassment. “I didn’t disturb your dog or anything, right? I’m sorry!”
