The sun was starting to set and the air was getting colder, the young stallion could feel it in his bones. He had lived through a Frost crossing, when it was incredibly cold. His back and sides still stung at the thought of another coming. The stallion shook his head as he stood upon the edges of his cave like home. He looked out over the dark trees that laid beneath his perch, before back towards the fastly coloring skies. They were still clear for the moment, but soon he knew they would cloud and snow would fall and blanket the ground and everything else. Feathered wings rustled awkwardly at his shoulders as the twin sets sat strangely over lapping each other.

"Another day gone." he muttered to himself as a cold wind blew over, making him shiver. "And the cold keeps coming closer." Oiy did he hate the cold, but he was thankful for his wings and the tapestry that laid over his back, though the metal armor didn't help in the cold. "Be glad when the warmer seasons come again"

Keela was not having a very good time right now. She had spent most of the latter part of her day flying about lazily, but the temperature started to quickly drop as the sun sank lower in the sky, and the frigid temperatures were not mixing well with her tired wings. In fact, they were beginning to cramp up quite badly. I need to land, the Airin thought desperately to herself. Unfortunately though, she also needed to find some shelter, as her senses told her that the night would be getting far colder.

As luck would have it, she soon spotted a stallion standing at the entrance of what appeared to be a cave. Normally she would have steered clear and left the other alone, but with her wings cramping the way that they were... Well, she didn't have much choice in the matter. Seeing as she was losing altitude anyway, she quickly made for the shelter of the cave.

"Excuse me," the mare said upon landing, a bit out of breath. "I just need to rest for a moment or two." Should the stallion be unwilling to share his shelter for the evening then she would try to move on elsewhere, but depending on how quickly the snow came in then she might be stuck there anyway.

Wings hanging limply at her sides, the raven mare gave the other a good look for the first time. "... Nice.. whatever that is you have on," she remarked lamely, unable to really compare the cloth or armor with anything that she already knew of.

The frigged cold was starting to bother the stallion, he was about to turn away when another landed at the entrance of the cave he called home. Blue eyes peered at the strange mare from within their dark sockets, before he looked away. "Rest all you like, just be gone by mornings light." he said heading further into the cave. He didn't quite like having others around, they always seemed to either piss him off in some way or they get hurt some how.

Coming to his 'bed' if that was what one wanted to call it. It was mostly a bunch of pine branches and such. Digging at it a little, he turned around to lay down, his face towards the mare whom was at his door. "It's just a piece of fabric I had found a long time ago." He said, voice kind of quite as he laid his head down, wings stretching a little before fanning themselves out over his sides and soon his head once he was sure this mare intended no harm. He had herd stories when he came to these lands, stories of creatures that ate others and he had yet to see one. Not that he was 'asking' to see one in the first place. "Might as well come in out of the cold, these mountains get colder then the lands below, but down there are creatures that would eat you alive while you slept." he spoke of things that someone else had told him about, which was why he chose a cave to sleep in.

Keela gladly entered the cave at the stallion's invitation, grateful that he was at least willing to let her spend the night. She had to chuckle a bit though at his last statement. "Any creature foolish enough to try to make a meal of me would become a meal itself," she stated matter of factly, settling down near the opposite wall from the male. "Well, anything except a kirkani perhaps. I would not stoop so low as to feed upon my own kind." Relaxing a bit, the raven mare stretched out a wing and busied herself with preening it. Several of the feathers were a bit out of sorts from having flown for so long. Glancing over briefly at the stallion, she couldn't help but admire his duo set of black and white wings. Those must take a while to straighten out...

"I highly doubt that the creatures that live along the forest floor really care what you are. If you are caught sleeping at their level you are as good as supper." he pointed out quite dryly as he watched the mare in the dimming light, letting his eyes adjust to it slowly.

Shaking his head some, Draven turned his masked face away from the stranger, wings shuffling themselves a little. The larger ones opening as a smaller set slipped from where they were hidden. These unfolded before the larger set went back to their normal place. It was getting ghastly cold out and he wanted to get things sorted before they did. Things seemed to get colder here in the mountains then they did in the lower lands. Still, he had yet to find his true home. One that would suit him better then stone and dirt.

"Don't suppose on your travels you have seen any strange flowers about..." He asked kind of knowing that if anything all plant life like flowers would be dead by now. Still it was worth asking anyways, he searched for a place were certain black flowers grew, ones he came to like back home on his island... Before he left it and things turned sour... "Nevermind, they wouldn't be growing now anyways." defused he just laid there pondering when they would be growing again, late spring he supposed.

"You underestimate my abilities," she muttered to herself, not looking up from preening her wings. She had spent much of her life sleeping in the forests without being eaten. Granted, there were a few close calls (like when the predators chose to attack in a pack instead of alone), but she always managed to get herself out in time. And more often than not the one that attacked instead became the meal.

At his question of flowers, the mare looked back over at him, curiosity piqued. "I may have," she replied nonchalantly. "Describe them to me. If I recognize it then I'll tell you where they grow." Now why he was interested in a certain type of flower was beyond her really. Perhaps they were particularly tasty to those who ate plants or something.

"I would have to see them to know if they were right. There is no really way to describe these flowers. Besides being black and grown in thorny clusters." Cane his rough voice, one that he showed to many that came near. He never really liked being so cold and bitter, but with his past he couldn't chance being 'kind' to anyone. No, that would most likely spell their death as well as his own in time. "They were something that grew back home. Very far away from here. VERY far away."

Rolling a little, a wing opened as he seemed to preen at a smaller one, before it folded again. Turning his head towards the raven mare once more, he spat out a small black and white feather, it wad rather dull and discolored really. Pity they didn't keep their gleam too long, thoughts aside he looked towards the entrance of his current home. Man, he wished things were warmer, these cold seasons would end up being the death of him with how his body ached so.

"I doubt if you met one of these creatures you would last long. But then again, as you way, don't underestimate ones abilities. Just have to wonder if they would be enough..." Though the statement was more or less to himself, his mind still drew back to the black flowers of his home. How they fed mostly one moonlight, then day light. They were always so pretty when they bloomed during the full moon. Lost again to the past, his eyes closed, senses stretching across his own body, flinching at the phantom pains of his horn being sawed off and the many lashings across his back and flank. "Nasty barbarians..." He hissed between clenched teeth, with no mention of who or what they could have been.

"Ok, they're far. I get it," she replied nonchalantly, returning back to her preening. Besides, the vague description he gave didn't much match anything her mind could immediately remember. She never really payed that much attention to the foliage around her really, unless it happened to have fruit in it.

It was silent between them for a moment or so more before the stallion started rambling on about some strange creatures out of the blue. She watched silently as the male flinched at nothing and muttered something about barbarians. Another wacko. Lovely, she thought to herself, her memory briefly flashing to her encounter with Zephar. I seem to have a knack for coming across them. "Of what creatures do you speak?" she asked coolly, unphased by his agitated state. "If I were to cross one some day I wouldn't mind knowing what exactly I am up against."

Rolling himself over some, Draven got back to his hooves and paced back to the entrance of the cave and peered out into the approaching darkness. 'Who' that was a better question the mare could have asked. They weren't much of a what, tail flicking nervously behind him. He looked back towards her, dark blue eyes looking almost black. "Something I hope this land doesn't have to encounter." he put simply turning his head away. "Because not even your wings, beak or talons can save you if they get you. Nor will your horn if they have their way. Best you don't know about them, safer that way." His voice was low, almost like he didn't want anyone else to know of the experiences he had to grow up with.

If the stallion was trying to discourage her curiosity of the creatures, he was failing miserably. Her gaze was locked onto him as he spoke and moved, and her ears swiveled forward with interest. What the heck kind of creature could possibly be so formidable? A dragon? she wondered to herself, not about to think of anything else off the top of her head that she would be utterly defenseless against. But that doesn't make any sense either. A dragon would just kill you, not take your horn. She shook her head lightly as if to clear her thoughts before turning back to the stallion once more. "I don't see how," she replied, refuting his logic. "If I don't know about them then I obviously can't avoid them either. I travel around quite a lot, so being knowledgeable about possible dangers would be beneficial to me." Now whether she would ever receive an answer or not from the strange male was questionable, for in her view he didn't seem to be quite all there.

"You will know them, they wreak of death and destruction. They walk on two legs and wear things made of the same fabric that I hold here." He said simply before entering the cave again, his pacing getting more and more restless. Knowing well that having another around wouldn't be the best of things. Once and a while he would glance at the raven like mare, before settling himself down a little at the back of his cave dwelling home. Wings pressed to his sides, already outside the first snowflakes of the season were falling.

"You naive wild hearted ones shouldn't know of the dangers I have survived. It only strikes curiosity and then you too would get sucked into their petiless ways. I won't speak of it anyways, to keep you the more Naive." Much to his disliking, Draven had a feeling that the wild kirin here were more capable of taking care of themselves then himself, he hated feeling weak.

From the stallion's description, Keela formed a bizarre image in her mind of two legged dragons walking around with cloth on their backs. She shook her head to clear her mind of the strange thought, giving up for the time being on figuring out just what these creatures were. This guy was probably just insane anyway.

His last statement amused her though. "'Naive wild hearted ones'?" she quoted in a slightly mocking tone. "That's quite the opinion of us that you have there. Perhaps you are really the more naive one for allowing yourself to get caught in these creature's clutches." Her wings bristled slightly on her back as the snow continued to fall outside. "In any case, it doesn't really matter much. If these things are really as far away as you claim them to be, then you may as well relax a bit and move on. No point in fretting over past troubles."

"Try being under their control for three long years. THREE LONG YEARS!" He shouted the last three words again to get his point across as it seemed that this discussion was starting to get under his scared skin. "I am FAR from naive, you all live here all happy and frolicy, but you never know what's lurking around in the shadows." Shaking his head he looked away from the raven mare, his feathers completely ruffled. "Plus, you do treasure that pretty horn growing from your skull right? try having it sawed off and then burned so it won't grow back. Your wings pruned so you can't fly, also chains about your ankles at night so you can't run when they turn their backs. Live with that from when you are just a foal and tell me how your outlook will be." His tone was still rough, bitter in place as he remained looking away from the mare.

Turning away he walked out of the cave and into the coldness that awaited. Shivering against the bitter cold, he could already feel it seeping into his joints, the scars on his back stung with old memories of his escape. Shaking the small flakes that happened to catch one his mane. This was turning out to be like that other meeting. Why was everyone so determined to saw that it was 'safe' here? NO place was safe from them, no place. It seemed that his freedom was just a dream and these fickle minded Kirin only saw things one way, blindly. "Is this is freedom, I would rather go back to being some human's whipping boy." Draven grumbled as he walked along the path that lead higher.

Once again the raven mare fell silent as she listened to the stallions enraged ravings. Seems like someone here is rather damaged goods, she thought dryly to herself as he stepped back outside. At his last line she couldn't help but snort. "You don't actually mean that," she remarked, golden eyes locked onto the fellow Airin. "If you really would rather be 'some human's whipping boy', then you still would be." She stood up with a sigh and ruffled her wings a bit as she stepped near the entrance to continue talking to him. "You have attained your freedom that you've always wanted, so then why not let yourself actually be free for crying out loud? The nightmare from the past is not in this land, so stop being so damned paranoid and get a grip on yourself." Keela let out another soft snort before turning and heading back to where she was lying down before. There was no sense in going out into the snow after a crazed stallion who was obviously either incapable of or unwilling to accept logic.
