Characters
Dragon race: dragons age differently than humans and can live for hundreds of years. Age 30 is a common age for coronation of royalty. Its like being 18 for humans because thats when you're more or less considered adult. About age 45-90 is 'middle-aged'

Name
Gen Lornah
Age
30
Personality
Gen is very respectable in front of the King and the Court, living up to all the Dragon's standards of what a good royal should embody. However away from the Court's eyes Gen is far more laid back and adventurous at heart. He prides himself in the knowledge he obtains through his own secret studies of sciences and other forbidden subjects. He can be both kind and sharp witted at times and at others his temper can flare and he becomes most unreasonable.

Name
Nero Thanatosis
Age
50
Personality
Usually anti-social, quiet, but very strong and dutiful. He can be relied on and has a strong will to never give up to the point of being stubborn. Normally he is calm and collected but when he is in battle he is as heated as the flames that blow from his throat. He's not the kindest person in the world, but he is absolutely loyal to whomever he trully serves.

Deep within darkness, a cult resided. For generations they planned to overthrow the royal family that ruled over their kingdom. The leader of the cult, a warlock, had summoned upon a dragon knight to slay their enemy in coldblood.
This knight had entered upon the kingdom and started as a lesser knight in disguise as one on their side. Working his way up after many years or training, practice, missions, and fighting, he finally became close to the royal family. Gaining their trust, the knight was finally appointed guarding the king's chamber. As the king had fallen asleep he entered without witness. Taking the cult's dagger from his thighstrap, he slit the throat of thr king, covering his mouth as he drew his final breaths.
dropping the dagger and waiting for a moment, he left to stand guard once again until the rise of the sun.
When morning came and he entered teh chamber to 'wake' the king, he cried out "The King has been Slain!!"

Within the panic and suspision of the King's death over a few days, Nero had been appointed to protect the prince at all cost; to protect him from whoever had slew the king. He kneeled in front of the prince, at the highly decorated throne, keeping his head low and his helmet bestween his breast and arm. He awaited to be truly knighted, given the great honor of becoming the king-to-be's personal guardian and knight. His black hair spilled over his shoulders as he kept his eyes closed. He held his helmet in his arm, tucked close to his breast.

The news of the King's death traveled like wildfire throughout the kingdom and its neighboring lands, striking chords of both despair and quiet triumph from its people. Inside the royal complex a frightened sort of chaos ensued while members of the service and peerage tried desperately to handle this tragedy with some sort of grace in tact. It is a sad and cruel thing when a good King is slain in cold blood. To make matters worse, there was no apparent suspect for the deed. The King's personal guardsman himself swore by the royal crest that there was not a single sign from inside that would have caused him to worry for the Majesty's safety.

And amidst the bedlam lied together a poor grieving Queen and her only son the Crown Prince. He had only just reached his thirtieth year to now be bequeathed by an heir's obligation a disturbingly early Kingship. He now had to take part in a sacred royal coronation that would solidify and amend his position as the new King. Also as an extra precaution the Queen and Arch Bishop insisted that he be assigned the best guard the Kingdom had to offer to ensure his safety until that day. It was only natural that the deceased King's previous personal guard be given such an important duty.

There was a special knighting ceremony held just for the invocation of this man's new duties. One in which the Crown Prince himself would accept the knight as his trusted protector.

"It is before this Royal Court and Crest and by the blessing of the Gods that you, Sir Nero Thanatosis, are given the honor of becoming the personal guard of the Crown Prince, Gen Lornah of Catania," the Arch Bishop crowed above the knight's head.

"Do you sir knight, accept all of the responsibilities that your duty will call for? And do you swear by the Royal Crest that you will serve to protect the Crown Prince at any cost, including your very life?" The Bishop continued, his old haggard eyes bearing into the knight's back while the Prince decidedly stared off into the distance somewhere off to his left side.

Thanatos lifted his head slightly as he glanced to the prince. He held a stern look as he spoke strongly. As the Arch Bishop spoke, Thanatos could only imagine what other plan th cult was plotting. He baerly remembered when the cult was once peaceful and on the side of the Royal Court. But now, as his own heart was consumed by hate and darkness by the warlock, he kneeled to the prince in a plot to slay him. He would get close to him just to kill him. "I swear to protect the Crown Prince with my life. By the Royal Crest, all responsibilities of my duty shall be obeyed. I would throw myself before all demons and sacrifice my own life for our prince. I will never have harm come to him, nor get near him."
He vowed with words stained in hate and lies, transformed by the cult that summoned him.

From a bowl of pure Holy water, Father Dante peered with stunning green eyes from his cloak. He smirked lightly in the dim candle-lit room. "By the will of the gods, sinners and sons of sinners alike shall be casted before them... The decendant of murder is still murder. A damnful ancestory is not what our king must have. They shall be exterminated, for hands of a real saint to lead this kingdom."

With a wave of his hand, a fellow monk handed him a dagger. Unsheathing it, he looked t it while it gleamed. "I will give to you this weaon to slay such a serpentine creature, Nero..." he said aloud, looking to the glistening blade. He was glad to hear the King was gone, but his son was now the problem. He believed fullheartedly the ancestor of the prince and king had killed his brother. The skull of whom sat beside the bowl of Holy water.

The knighting ceremony had come to an end and in the days that followed the Prince kept himself closed up within his chambers. None were allowed to enter and he made that point very clear before he turned to that solitude. He couldn't bear to be around the superficial rats that were the royal peerage. They were nothing but a group of obsequious leeches that called themselves the court. The Prince hated them, he'd always hated them. None of them really cared about the affairs or state of kingdom until the time came that it might make them look better in the eyes of the King or Queen.

None of that mattered now. As soon as the coronation ended and he was named King, all of them would be gone.

Sure the matters of the court were an annoyance to the Prince, but the issue that really ate at him was the circumstance of his father's death. None of it made sense. He'd spent the better part of the last fortnight trying to make sense of it all while scouring all the reports and records he'd been given, but nothing was coming to light.

With a growl of frustration, the Prince slammed his fist onto the hard wood of his desk and flung all the many scrolls and papers that littered it to the floor. He strung his fingers into his bangs and sat back heavily into his chair. There was nothing here; not a clue that might lead him to anything that might help him solve the mystery of his father's death. It was frustrating knowing that no one inside the castle could find anything that might lead him in the right direction.

Though suddenly it hit him! If he could not find the answers he needed within the castle's walls, then he would go outside and find them. He'd settled on his decision and now the only obstacle he had to go through was getting the permission to leave.

Nero crossed his arms as he followed the prince where ever he had gone, standing outside every door. He spoke nothing to him. His own mind wandered to other matters. Figuring out when would be teh best time to fulfill his duty. That was his purpose. If he could not succeed to kill the prince, hopefully, before he became king, his head would belong to Father at once.

He stood outside the prince's room, leaning in no direction. He held his syth in one hand. He had been given another dagger in secrecy by a monk of the cult. It was hidden away in his heavy armour for only the perfect timing. He glanced to the door of the prince's chamber, hearing the rustling of scrolls. Perhaps he wished to find some clue to the king's death? Nero held in a dark laugh at the thought of it. He thought the prince foolish of him to even try. Although, he himself wondered why the cult was so intruiged in killing the royal family. Was it honestly just for power as he thought? He gave a quiet sigh, tightening his grip on the syth. He looked to the door and quickly opened it as he heard the prince slam something.

"Forgive my intrusion, Your Majesty, but are you alright?" He asked with little to no real concern. He saw all the papers and scrolls around and looked to the dark haired prince. "Your Highness, have you not found what ever you were researching?" He asked. "If it pleases Your Majesty, should you call for a schollar to help you?" His yellow eyes watched Prince Gen carefully, almost eager to hear what he would say.

Just as the Prince had finally resolved to leave his chamber, the door opened and his guard Nero entered with a bow. Aside from being annoyed by his entrance at all, Gen wasn't at all impressed by the dry tone of voice the knight was addressing him with. Gen closed his black eyes and his brow twitched in aggravation. "First of all Sir Nero, if you insist on checking in on me, please at least try and sound concerned next time," he commented. "And a scholar will be of no use to me at this time. I have decided however to go outside of the castle and into the village to speak with the sheriff. Have my horse prepared immediately," he ordered as he walked past the knight and disappeared down the hallway.

Thanatos looked down to watch the prince disappear. He sighed and stepped forward, wondering if he should stop him. 'He isn't supposed to leave...' He knew, and thought it over for a moment. 'Although, I need to gain his trust...' He gave anotehr annoyed sigh and turned in the opposite direction, heading down through the halld to get the prince's horse, along with his own. A few servants have asked where he was going, but he would lie, telling them he would be headed to different places. The library, the study, or even the great room.
Reaching the stables, he walked past the horses. Most neighed annoyingly at the sight of him, eitehr of fright, annoyance, or agression. Taking the prince's horse, he pulled it from its pen, setting up its reigns and saddle. He found his own dark coloured horse and set up his own saddle and reigns as he awaited for the prince. He should remind the prince at least that he is no supposed to leave for his safety, he thought, although he shouldn't really try to stop him. Gaining as much trust as possible was the xurrent goal. And he will have to fix that monotonous sound of his voice.

The Prince traveled the halls of the palace dutifully. He was going to leave this place whether his mother and the Archbishops wanted him to or not. The truth of matter was that the King had been murdered nearly a month ago and nothing had been done about it in that time. It was unforgivable. Having his servants gather his cloak, he pulled it around himself and headed outside towards the stables. The servants as they watched him go, called out to him in concern, only to be met with a look of disdain at which they immediately withdrew from the area.

Marching towards Nero and their horses, he quickly mounted and gave order. "We are going into the village and I am to meet with the Sheriff," he dictated and struck his horse who reared and took off at a run.

Nero frowned and sighed as he had mounted to his own horse ro run after the prince. Finally catching up o him, he rode beside him. "Your Highness, for what are we to meet with the Sheriff?" he asked, giving concern, this time, in his voice."Forgive me, Your highness, but if this matter is about the King's death, nothing else is able to be done. They have said it was of teh cult and the cult's wherabouts are still unknown without slightest trace of clue." He lied only partially and tried to sound less monotonous as he promised himself earlier. There were signs all around to indicate where the cult was hiding but they were small signs for specific trained eyes. Nero sighed, glancing to the prince as he rode.
"When you get back to the palace you are to face all consiquence, as I. But I swore on my life I will follow you to my death." He reminded, fixing his dark and yellow eyes on the prince. "It is dangerous, Your Majesty, but I will protect you no matter how grim any situation may seem." He felt as if he was saying too much. Nero did not wish to give the impression he did not care about Prince Gen, although he did not want to be too protective to the point of seeming fake.

As the two rode towards the kingdom's court village, Gen listened idly to what his guard was trying to tell him. After a moment, however, he held up his hand to silence the other. "I know very well what the sheriff has all ready reported to me," snapped the Prince. "But I know as well as anyone that if the Cult truly is involved then no commoner or court member in their right mind would really do anything to go against them. I am no fool, I know they are dangerous and are controlling a lot of people from within the shadows of this Kingdom!"

The Prince spoke the truth, he knew all of that because his father had spent years trying to uncover and bring the Cult to its knees. Gen knew as well as anyone else that was smart that the Cult wouldn't think twice before getting rid of someone so troublesome. King or not. If only he knew the true reasons...
