Mili sat at her desk staring at her computer screen, bored, tired, hungry. It was Saturday afternoon, and she had nothing going on.
The computer chess program she was playing against seemed to share her boredom, as it defeated her for the second consecutive time. "Checkmate" flashed on and off of the screen. Usually, Mili would be upset about it, but right now, she really didn't care about much. Computer opponents just weren't as much fun as the real thing.
Sadly, there weren't many girls at Crystal that shared her love of the game. Chess was usually thought of as a "man's game", and most of the training at Crystal was about how to be proper and get a proper man and produce proper offspring. Most men didn't like women who were smarter than them.
Mili would settle for playing any board game today though. She mentally went through her list of girls that seemed to be promising in the friend department. Aurora quickly came to mind, as last time they hung out, she made delicious soup, and they had made plans to get together again. If Mili recalled correctly, she had even promised to play a game with her.
She walked down the hall and knocked on Aurora's door.

-Aurora's mind had been occupied as she rubbed a cloth into her wood furniture far more times then it really needed to be properly dusted. Her eyes stared distantly to thoughts playing around in her head, thinking back to another night of uneventful scouting.
There was something so frusterating about trying hard to be a good scout.. and not even getting the chance to prove it. Surely there had to be a better way.. then just going out and searching for hours randomly.
A knock at the door drew her attention sharply away from the desk she'd been wiping down, and she hurried to it quickly, pulling the door open as she curiously peeked at the cause. Mili!
Her thoughts melted, a smile spreading across her face, as she pulled the door open wider.- "Ohhh. Hey Mili!"

"Hello Aurora!" Mili said as a smile spread across her face. She held up a copy Risk, "care for some world domination?" She wasn't sure how much the other girl wanted to come up with strategies and plot and plan, but Mili didn't have any board games in her collection like "Mystery Date" or "Pretty Pretty Princess" so Risk it was.
She also had a second motive for going to see the other girl, "So, since you like to cook, and I like to eat....." Mili trailed off and looked around, "I was thinking you could make something while we play. We could go in the commons area again and spread out on the couches and make a night of it." At least one couldn't say she wasn't up front and honest about her feelings.

-She was obviously pleased by the immediate company, but Aurora couldn't help but grin even further as the game was offered and motivations stated. Maybe it was rude to come expecting, and if it happened too many times perhaps she'd say something about it. But for now it was charming in a way. Charming and honest.-
"If you don't mind completely obliterating me, then I don't mind giving it a go." -Risk was a game she'd played two.. maybe three times in her lifetime. Certainly she was no pro, but.. it was a more inticing choice then something frivilous and completely luck based like Sorry or Trouble. When you actually had to think and plot, well.. that wasn't nearly as mind numbing as sitting around just waiting to roll the next random number.
Motioning Mili in, Aurora set the rag in hand on the edge of the sink.- "It sounds like much better plans then I had for the night."
"So why don't you give me a little refresher on the rules while I see what kind of ingredients I have lying around."
"I haven't been to the grocery in a good week now, but I should be able to find something nice to whip up." -She winked, beginning to dig through the small collection of supplies she could keep safely in her dorm room.-

"The rules of Risk are simple: Conquer the entire world by wiping out all of your opponent's, mine, armies. We take turns drawing country cards, and then putting our little men onto the countries on the board. During your turn, you get more men to add to any country you own to build up your army. If you own a whole continent, you get extra troops on your turn..."
Mili droned on and on for for another ten minutes going into the little details about how to play Risk, all the while looking over Aurora's shoulder at what food she was gathering. She silently patted herself on the back for deciding to pop over here.
"...and I think that's all you need to know. Simple, right?"

-Simple was a relative word. The concept was simple enough, but the details were a little less so. Nonetheless, she'd played a couple times, and the refresher on the rules seemed to cement things for the most part. Aurora laughed just a little, nodding her head in soft agreement.- "I think I've got it. You can always just correct me if I start to do something stupid."
"Alright let's see." -She stepped aside showing the things she set out across her counter, gazing at them intently as she noted in her head different ways to combine them.- "I don't have the ingredients for anything super special.. like meats or pastas. But I've got some snacky stuff we can make. Maybe something sweet if you're up for it?" -She wasn't feeling salty herself, so she hoped Mili would agree.-
"If I go with sweets I can make something simple like cookies here. Or if you want to drag everything to the home ec room, I might be able to whip up something a little more fancy, like a cheesecake."
"I know a few neat no-bake cookie recipes actually, that'd be really convient if you want to hang out in the commons."

Mili's eyes lit up and widened with glee at the mention of sweets. "The home ec room has lots of counter space, yes? If we go there, we'll have room for the game board and food.... would you really make a cheesecake?"
Cheesecake was really something magical. It wasn't really cheese; it wasn't really cake, but it was all delicious, an amazing mix of heavy, overly sweet goodness and crunchy crust. At that moment, Mili went from not sure what she wanted for dinner Saturday night to wanting to fill her whole weekend with slices of bliss.
Bake, no bake, it didn't really matter because the end result was amazing either way, but with a whole classroom to themselves, the two girls could have uninterrupted fun.

"Cheesecake it is then!" -Aurora nodded enthusiastically. She'd have to borrow a few ingredients from the Home Ec room for that, but they were simple ingredients she knew they would have.. and she'd be sure to replace what she took by Monday morning, so it was all good.
Lightly she glanced about her room, as if trying to decide if she wanted to bring along something. Pillows for extra comfort maybe... or a stereo for music? In the end, she decided against it all, instead simply pulling the bowl of fruits she had stuffed away in her minifridge, and the small bags of dark and milk chocolate. When she got to the home ec room and saw what she had to work with, she could decide for sure on the toppings, but Aurora was like a girl scout. Always prepared.-
"You need help carrying anything?" -She asked, as she made her way towards the door, holding it open with her free hand.
Aurora could only hope that, even when the school year was in full swing and homework apilling, they'd still have time for some of these 'girls nights' every now and then.-

"I need help carrying anything?" Mili giggled out, "Do you need help carrying anything?" The other girl's arms looked a lot fuller than hers did. None the less, it was a nice gesture.
She scuttled out Aurora's door, and waited in the hall for her to exit and lock up. It seemed like dorm-thieves were always around, so locking up was always a good idea... especially in Aurora's case because of all the yummy food she had in there.
Mili wasn't exactly sure where the Home Ec. room was, so she figured she would like Aurora lead, "After you," she said and made a forward gesture with her arm.

-Mili's giggle was echo'd by Aurora, musing pleasantly as they gathered the last of the things and ushered out.- "Sometimes I think juggling would have been a useful little trick to try to learn. Or maybe just a summer job as a waitress. They always seem to haul around those ungodly stacks of dishes on one arm."
-Bowl and chocolate shifted to one hand Aurora locked the door, before turning to head to the oh so familar classroom. Really she could probably find the place blindfolded already. Her eyes took in the empty classrooms, wondering where the majority of their fellow students where on their free day. Some were obviously studying, a solitary student or small groups tucked away in doors they passed, but most were probably out having fun. Being lazy.
The door of the home ec room brought her mind back to the moment, pausing long enough to jiggle the handle and open it, holding the door open with her foot after she'd stepped inside. A flick of the switch cast light over the dozen or so kitchen stations.- "Here we are then."
"You figure out where you want to set up the game and I'll go dig out everything I need."

As light filled the room, Mili's eyes darted around. So many little nooks that could at any point in time be filled with so many people cooking food. Clearly this place was filled with magic.
She found a large, round, brushed steel table, and set the Risk box down on it. She caught her reflection in the table, and adjusted a stray strand of hair that had fallen out of her braid and into her face. Good thing it was Saturday and she didn't have to look 100% her best.
She opened the box, and began taking pieces out. "What color would you like to be? Any color but red. I always play as red." Red was the color of power and victory, and Mili made it a point to always play as red.

"Purple, if it's an option. Blue otherwise." -She called from the drawer she was raiding for bowls and a mixer. Purple was rarely an option, and that was sad.
As Mili prepared the gameboard, Aurora worked on preparing the cheesecake. Oven preheating, graham crackers crushed and mixed with butter at the bottom of the pan, and finally all the ingredients dumped one by one into a large bowl.
Looping the bowl in her elbow, mixer in the other hand, she drew closer to peek at the progress.-

"No. There's no purple, so blue it is then." Mili pulled out the separate plastic bags she kept each color in, and set them on the table. She left the other colors in the box. Although, sometimes when only two people were playing, you had to pick a secondary color if you ran out of pieces. Her Risk set was one that had pink pieces (maybe they were trying to lure girls to play?), and she usually picked them for her backup color because it matched well with red.
Also, she had a relatively old edition, so the pieces were just wood cubes, and not those fancy sculpted ones they made now. It was simpler to move the pieces around, and just more practical.
She watched Aurora mix everything into a bowl. The girl was a really wizard in the kitchen, which was a skill Mili was lacking. Really, it was quite impressive. Mili wanted to cheat and just eat the ingredients, but showed restraint. Besides, the end product would be better if it had everything in it.

-She nodded, watching the pieces go down, pulling out her own chair with a foot, as she mixed with the other hand. She was pretty much ready to go. The stuff in the bowl was getting thick and creamy, almost the perfect consistancy. Other than putting it all in the oven, and grabbing herself a glass of water or juice, she was ready to go.
She confirmed her plans allowed for Mili.- "This will need to cook about 40 minutes, and then it's best if it can cool for atleast an hour or so. We'll be playing for that long probably, yes?"
-Moving to scrap the contents of the bowl over her graham cracker crust, she slipped it into the heat of the oven, adding mildly.- "Anything we'd need for toppings I can work on over there while we play. So I'm ready when you are."

40 minutes? That was short for a game of Risk. Then again, Mili would probably win fairly quick. Not to say anything against Aurora, but Mili just had more experience at the game.
Yes, the point was to have fun, but winning was a lot more fun that losing was. It was just more satisfying. She would have to tone down her competitiveness though, because she had to make sure Aurora had fun too. The other girl might not want to hang out with her again if Mili was a sore winner.
"I'll take the first turn to show you how everything will go," she said and drew a card and placed a brick on the matching country.
