To them, no distance was insurmountable. They had sprinted across innumerable dunes and some countless distance in the midst of the sandstorm, unfazed and untouched because of the complacent path the mage had wrought before them. Such a journey would be taxing on the body and appear to consume great lengths of time. But this was not so for either of them. Why this was, they were not explicitly certain of, but it did not arouse their concerns.

The coolness of the perpetual Night was welcoming. Naturally, it evoked an unusual effect on these sands, because the sands beyond the unending Night had actual exposure to the sun and were rarely in agreement with their neighbors. It was a rather ungodly thing for a distinct boundary between Night and Day to exist.

Cerberus padded across the sands, stomach growling with his three heads. To have been deprived of his lunch, it was unthinkable, inconceivable! The fleshling on his back was very fortunate to be the beast's companion.

Soren's arms curled around the beast's center neck. He'd seen nothing of interest on his way home, but hopefully he'd left some sort of a trail for the others to follow, whether magical or physical. Perhaps they had been smart or fortunate enough to follow him. Whatever the case, he expected guests.

Cerberus stepped forward. And then that was where the footprints ended, for the hulking beast vanished into thin air with his rider. Without anyone to have witnessed them, it was though they were never there.

As a matter of fact, it was more like they'd been at the top of the tower the entire time. Soren now stood upon a great height of the obsidian foundation, arms crossed forbiddingly, garnet eyes overlooking the vast landscape that had been swallowed by the neverending Night. Another black wind stirred to caress his bangs and reshape the sands to its liking. Cerberus glanced over the area as well before turning away to tend to his own business. He cared not for the sight of the desert.

It was cold and so very desolate, and the very essence of icy surrender bore deep into the mage's soul, clawing at the walls and drawing a constant well of resentment and bloodlust. Stony claws seized his frozen heart and everything seemed to blacken even further. His glare burned into the distance, resolving only to break when the horizon was broken, everything ever suffocating beneath the deepening coldness of the dark realm.

The sandstorm has done its number on the caravan of Amara's rescuers. Fate has selected a special few to stumble their way to this towering blackness that pierces the burning desert, a pillar of foreboding that stands like a massive stormcloud in clear skies. Though the sands too wail through the perpetual Night, it is always cold as though to spite the sun blazing and bending around the pillar.

Situated in the absolute midst of the area is a colossal foundation. It resembles a massive, black spire, its stones not truly stones but an occult material whose lustre reflected even the faintest of stars overhead. The structure carries an impression of metal thorns and an all-encompassing countenance.

The tower seems to impale the very heart of the heavens, the aether bleeding down the obsidian walls and fortifying it with twisted invincibility. Not even the pantheon can grasp the absolute concept of what has transpired here. At the base of the jagged, ebony tower is a fortress that is just as surreal in nature, some parts of the architecture too unusual to have been crafted by mortal hands. The fortress seems adorned by unnecessary tangles of massive, thorned arches, jutting from whatever parts of the structure as it they were once alive. Some of these take on the guise of gigantic roots and bury themselves deep into the sands.

But the fortress itself is still dwarfed by the tapering spire that rises from its core.

At the base, monstrosities have been stationed as guardians. Some of them were created and some of them simply sprang into existence with the structure. Minotaurs march back and forth ceaselessly, organized like true soldiers and occasionally rallying to readjust their formations. Gargoyles, bearing the appearance of obsidian stone and with weapons as unique as their varying faces, perch upon the outcrops of the fortress and tower while they peer down with critical gazes. Many of the monsters appear to have been borrowed from Magvel as well.

There is a softened quality to the foundation and sound itself seems almost distorted. The darkness seems both natural and...pixelated, most undoubtedly befitting of a place as abstract as this. The entrance to the fortress — and inevitably, the tower — is a gateway ten times the size of a man, adorned enticingly with ornate embellishments and designs, almost radiating with a light of its own. The guardians appear concentrated around this gate. It is closed, impassable, and it is not clear as to how the gate can be opened.

Welcome home...

"Nggh..."

The sand had stopped swarming now. The young lord slowly pushed off the sand to get back up onto his feet. After dusting what sand particles he could off his body, he looked around. Their numbers had been drastically reduced. Besides him, there were Alihi, Ephraim, Blossom, Aidan, Ganon, the dark skinned woman, the man that was with Amara moments before she was kidnapped (if he recalled), and the wyvern rider that was supposed to know where they were supposed to go. There was no sign of Akihi, Marina, Sue, the pegasus knight, Joshua, the idiot, the entombed, or his mother.

He looked around frantically, but sure enough, none of them were here. They had indeed been split thanks to the storm. The first thought that came to him was worrying about his mother. The second was to check on the others. Roy pulled Darko out of his bag (who was awake and having a hissy fit. The young lord managed to calm him down after a few minutes) before he went to the person that was closest to him at the moment.

"Ephraim, wake up." he muttered, shaking the prince of Renais.

After he had attempted to shake and wake up the others, he glanced up at the monstrous black tower he had noticed before but failed to mention. Perhaps this was where they were supposed to go? They were a small distance away from the base, but he noticed that there were quite a number of specs stationed outside. Monsters, maybe? Their shape certainly didn't look anything human.

Shaking now, trembling,is a light all alone not a thing to heal the pain...it disappears

-Ephraim-

--------------------

What..What happened? The first moment Ephraim knew, a battle was going on, bandits retreating and...a...sandstorm..? Was he dead..? No, the couldn't be. Then why wasn't he moving? Oh..damn was he sore..and not in a good way either (Not like that you pervs). His body shook a little and
a soft voice was barely heard.

"Ephraim, wake up."

Ephraim cracked an eye open, one that wasn't planted in the sand. He groaned, rubbing his head as he sat up. "..Oohh..!! My head..!" He cried, rubbing his temples from the sudden fly up and face plant landing. That sure was fun..not. "Are..are they gone..?" stupid question really, but right now, Ephraim can't even think straight. His eyes popped open and he glanced up at what he thought was a mirage. A tower? He questioned, picking up his hat which was buried in the sand next to him.

"This...Wait" hold on now, something was missing..or rather..PEOPLE were missing. The lancer got up on his feet, stumbling a bit off balance as he counted the ones with him and Roy.

"Alihi..Abel..Deborah..Blossom...that..Aiden Fellow...and..Ganon...this can't be good"

Separated by a sandstorm after a battle, what more could go wrong. "Agh!!" Ephraim cried out, hanging his head down as his head suddenly began to throb once more.

The terrain was different, but other than that one would not have been able to tell that a sandstorm had just blown through. There was nobody around. All life had been engulfed in the dune sea.

Then, out of nowhere, a dark beast of a figure burst out of the sand with a cry most fierce. Deborah opened her eyes and took in a deep breath of needed air. She then plunged her hands back into the sand and pulled up a small girl's body, followed by the body of a boy. They both started coughing and breathing drastically, a sign that they were okay. Deborah slowly got to her feet, and shook as much sand from her dreadlocks as she could manage. She knelt down once more and fished around for their weapons, and successfully brought all three to the surface. She took her spear, stood up, and looked around. She had no idea if they were still in the same spot. They could have easily been blown around. And there were no others in sight.

However, figures did start to climb out from underneath the sand, within moments of when she began to look around. About half of their original group she could now see, where all in the same general area. She spotted Mihira clinging to her wyvern, and hid a small sigh of relief. She would be needed, if they were to continue, or turn back, or look for the others, or whatever they decided to do. She also noted that Alihi was here. It would be up to her for what choice they made.

Deborah also noticed something strange, about the shadows. They were lighter. The sun was not as bright where they were. And the feeling of their surroundings was... gnawing at her. It was as if it was trying to penetrate her heart, and force her to divulge fear. The halberdier looked behind her, as she had not yet done. What she saw certainly did surprise her. A tower from nowhere. This must be what they were looking for. The question though now was... were they really ready to face it, in their situation?

Alihi was panicking. In the sandstorm, she had managed to get separated from her brother. He was nowhere in sight. It was like he vanished completely. "Akihi! AKIHI!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, praying for a response. He couldn't be gone. He couldn't be... That'd be too cruel, to lose a brother while searching for a daughter.

"AKI--" Her voice cracked suddenly, cutting her short. She doubled over, coughing into the crook of her elbow. It was beginning to be too much. The emotional distress, the physical strain... everything. Her mind and body were beginning to weaken, and she was about to break. She slammed her fist against her leg, only causing herself to shake and nearly lose her balance.

Alihi felt absolutely pathetic. Just a bit more... She reassured herself, straightening up, regaining her composure in the process, and quickly looking at who was around. The tactician would have to keep pressing forward for a bit longer. She couldn't give up now, even after a set-back like this; she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she turned back now. I'm coming, Amara.

It was then she noticed the tower in the distance. Her heart began to pound rapidly as she turned to Mihira, the one who spotted the location where the kidnapper went with her daughter. "Mihira... is that the tower?" She asked, the urgency clear in her voice.

xxxxx"If you're worried about surviving, xxxxxxxyou can worry about it after you're dead!"
"The wyvern riders of Bern sit atop the heap of all other forces on the continent!" xxxxx "You will see our power soon!"

The sandstorm had come and gone. The last thing she remembered, she was holding onto her wyvern for dear life. She could still tell they were slipping, being blown away slowly. She remembered urging her wyvern to hang on. She repeated it over and over. She shut her eyes, and tried her best to hold back her panic. She shut her eyes for a really long time. She didn't even notice when things had quieted down.

Her wyvern flapped its wings, and the sand spilled off of them. The wings had been around Mihira, protecting her, and now she could stumble out, and breath again. "Thank you.. you did well, girl. Let's get you out."

Once her wyvern was able to stand up and move around, Mihira looked around, and saw others had made it as well. But some were missing. Her heart went out to them. Hopefully they were okay, just somewhere else. Mihira looked over to Alihi, when the tactician came up to her. "..Tower...?" Mihira looked out toward where most people seemed to be looking, and gasped. "Th-that's it....! That's the tower I saw the raven fly into! It feels so menacing up close... It's almost hard to breath." She brought her hands up by her heart, and gulped. "This is it..."

Alihi's eyes widened when Mihira confirmed the location.

Amara was there. She knew it. Something inside her was screaming that her daughter was somewhere in that tower. Maybe it was the part of her that got her the reputation of knowing all. Maybe it was motherly instincts.

Either way, there was not a shred of doubt in her mind. She whipped around, staring at Mihira, Ganon, Deborah, Blossom, Aidan, Ephraim, Roy, and then finally at Abel. "This is it. That's the tower where the kidnapper disappeared to." She gestured behind herself vaguely. "... This is where we get Amara back."

There was a moment of hesitation before she continued, her voice softer than before. "I... would understand if some of you wanted to turn back now, to try to find our missing comrades. I would accept that..." Her hands clenched slightly. "I... I sound selfish, but I hope you won't. Because I know for a fact I cannot do this alone. But that storm separated us from the rest of the group. For some, that meant family members... so I would understand." She looked again at the group, though mainly at Roy. Surely he would be worried about his mother... She coughed a couple of times.

"... I... cannot make your decisions for you. You... must make them for yourselves..."

PostPosted: Sun Oct 25, 2009 5:34 pm

Roy was lost in his own little world, his mind crazed with worry over the condition of his mother. Was she all right? Would she be okay with the others? Was she EVEN with the others? His blue eyes were blurry as he looked up at the black tower, the dark color hurting his eyes. His thoughts were only worsened when he heard Alihi speak. He turned to look at the tactician slowly.

"As much as I want to head back to where my Mother is, I don't know where back is. I can only hope you can tolerate my presence for a little while longer while we go after Amara." he told Alihi.

Son...

Roy froze suddenly, feeling a chill down his spine. That voice...could it be...was it really...? Slowly, the young lord turned around.

Roy, my son; are you all right? the face held genuine concern.

He felt the hand on his shoulder. The young lord looked up slowly at the figure that had approached him.

"F-f-father...?" he asked slowly, a look of disbelief on his face.

He could not believe it. After all this time searching, he had finally found his father. The first words in years, and his father had asked if he was all right. If it wasn't for the dryness, his eyes would have welled up with tears. The young lord leaned in to hug his long-lost father, but the moment he had begun to move, he heard the sound of a sword being pulled out of its scabbard.

"W-what...?" a surprised gasp slipped past the boy's lips.

I'm sorry...We have no time for words.

There was a stunned look on the young lord's face. What madness was this?! He had just found his father, after years of looking for him (he had been searching in Elibe ever since his father had disappeared. It had already been a few years before he came through the Door), and now his father was prepping himself for combat? What was this?! When he looked up again, Eliwood was already running towards the tower. The older lord looked over his shoulder for a moment.

I'll wait for you inside! Gather together your allies; I'll explain everything there!

"FATHER!" Roy shouted, hand reaching out.

But then he blinked, and his father was gone. Was it a hallucination, a mirage? Or was it really the real deal? It had to be real! He felt that hand on his shoulder! It was solid! He refused to believe it was anything else. He grit his teeth. All other priorities were cast aside. Right now, his father had just revealed himself to him. He had already lost his father once, he was NOT going to let the same thing happen again!

"Father! Get back here!" the young lord shouted before he ran towards the tower, leaving all others behind.

He was going to bring his father back to his mother, even if he had to drag him all the way back. He had a lot of explaining to do.

The lily blossom is so very fleeting and the pain shall never fade

-Ephraim-

--------------------

Ephraim regained his composure and that same eerie feeling returned to him. He nearly jumped when the voice called out ".....Lyon..?" this time for sure he knew it wasn't a lie. A second encounter was definlently not possible, but in this case it had returned.

He shook his head, rubbing his temples one last time. "I'm..I'm fine' he replied, thankful for his friend's concern at his current health. He had to keep going though, for Alihi's sake at the very least. "I've been through much worse..this is nothing..compared..." his voice trailed off..compared to what? Compared to the fact that Lyon was dead because of him? His body shuddered at the thought. He turned, facing a figure of what looked like..

"...Why..?" Ephraim whispered, raising his hand wanting to know if he was real or not. "...Can I...say it?" the words rang through his mind. Those eternal words he long waited to say..but could he? No...possibly not.

Alihi spoke up, asking if they wanted to turn back which grabbed Ephraim's attention and turned his gaze to her. The moment Ephraim turned back, Lyon was gone.

A pained look flashed across the lancer's face and he turned, he wasn't there..and he'll never be..no matter how much he desired it.

"I...I won't go back...I want to assist you, Alihi"

The sand was heavier than Blossom thought. It was a lot darker. Panic swelled in her chest, her gut growing tighter and tighter until she could have sworn someone had taken it in their hands and was attempting to crush it and leave behind nothing but a shriveled mess. Deep breathing would be a disastrous choice--what with all of the sand around her--so Blossom merely tried to keep her scarf between her nose and mouth and the sand, eyes shut tight as she tried to breathe and keep from choking.

The sandstorm had finished, she thought. There wasn't any noise above her head. Or was the sand simply so thick and so stuffed into her ears that she was no longer able to hear? She could feel her breathing quicken, and then a heavy hand grasped onto her collar and yanked her into the hot sunshine.

"K-Kuh!" Blossom coughed, hacking out a mouthful of sand. She shook out her scarf and snorted out some sand from her nostrils. Gritty granules filtered out from where they had been collecting in her ears, and while she hacked and gulped in heavy lungfuls of air, Blossom managed to shake most of the sand out of her clothes.

When she had finally finished, all the others had emerged from the sand and were recovering at their own paces. Well, some of them. Blossom couldn't see Sue, nor Ninian or Joshua or Akihi... they had been split in two, it seemed.

Yet there was no time to go back for them.

Blossom stared up at the mighty tower that now stood before them, her face paling just slightly. Her burned shoulder screamed in pain after having sand pressed against it, but she had to ignore the pain. There was something much more important now to focus on. She reached back and lifted Vezra from the sand, holding it tightly.

Blossom glanced back at Aidan. Her stomach churned, but she looked back at Alihi, ignoring what he had said earlier. "We aren't going to leave you," she said, her voice more forceful than she thought possible in this situation. "I'm not abandoning you when Amara needs us."

Blossom was ready to move. She wanted to save Amara. She wanted to--

Wait, what was Roy doing?

"Roy!" Blossom shouted. She looked at the others and tried to follow him, not wanting him to separate from the group. "Roy! Roy, get back here! Roy!"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Abel had instinctively run as far as he could before the storm came upon him. When it did, he felt himself being tossed around, every which way, before finally hitting the ground. When things became quiet once more, he rose himself up, little by little, forcing more and more sand off of him, each time he jerked upward. Finally, he reached the surface, and got to his feet.

Some of the group was there, and others were not. But he saw Alihi, and his heart became less troubled. Then he saw the tower, and he knew. This was where they had been heading. This was where Amara was.

With the others gone, an obvious choice would be to look for them. However, the desert was grand, and searching for them would be fruitless without luck. If they were close by, the group would be able to see them. Right now, they had something new in front of them that they had to deal with.

Abel came up behind Alihi after she delivered her message, and put his hand on her shoulder. "..I think I speak for everyone, when I say there's no turning back now. We're all behind you... Alihi."

"Ya are a fool, if ya tink I came all deh way here just tah guide ya and den leave." She gripped her wooden spear tightly. "We came 'ere on a mission, and it isn't done yet. If ya goin' tah just stand around, I suppose I have tah be deh one tah lead ya inside, as well. Dat means, my job is still goin'."

She turned and looked at Alihi. "Just be careful. I trust ya orders, but we know not deh dangers dat lay waiting for us insi-" She caught the movement of a figure out of the corner of her eye, and looked over to see what it was. It was Roy. He was running toward the tower. Deborah twitched a little. "Children are idiots." She sighed, then started to walk off. "Well, ya bettah go an make sure he doesant get himself keeled..."

Alihi laughed softly. "... Of course. I... am a bit of a fool, thinking you guys would leave after all of this." She smiled brightly, looking at each of the people individually. Some were her closest friends, some were people she just met, and others were somewhere in between. It was a strange mix of people, united under one cause: saving Amara.

They all weren't going to give up on her, despite all that has happened. It was encouraging to hear it and it made her more confident. This mission would be successful... this nightmare would end. "Thank you... all of you. From the bottom of my heart." She pointed to the tower with her rapier. "Now, what are we waiting for? We've got to save Amara and make sure Roy doesn't get himself killed!"

Before heading for the tower herself, she took a moment to talk to a certain someone. She rested her hand gently on Abel's, smiling at him and lowering her voice so only he could hear. "... I'm sorry for what I said before. It... might have come out the wrong way." With her other hand, she rubbed the back of her neck. "I just... wish that I could protect you." She shook her head slowly, laughing sheepishly. "... It's a strange thought, I know."

Before he could respond, she turned and started to jog off towards the tower.

There were only two thoughts that were running through the young lord's mind. Find his father in this tower, and bring him back to Mother. If the older lord stayed with the group, they could also rescue Amara and get the answers as to why the little redhead was kidnapped. Right now, his priorities came first.

He twitched. He had a bad feeling about what was going to happen to his mother, where ever she may be. If it was the bandits, so help them Goddesses, they better call in some strong bodyguards, because he'll bring their entire base down if they did anything...ANYTHING...to his mother. Overprotective much? He had his reasons. And no, there was no Oedipus-complex.

Damn, his father was fast. He couldn't even see the older lord anymore. And it was obvious that the others in the group were just now realizing that they should go after him to the tower. Well, it wasn't like they were able to catch up to him anyway for a while.

He soon was close enough to the tower that the specs were no longer specs, but monsters. If they so dared to cross his path, they would be on the receiving end of his blade. He would cut down anything that dared get in his way. Roy could see now that the door was closed. Did he have to get rid of ALL the monsters here to get in?! He grit his teeth and kept running.

One of the minotaurs reared its ugly head towards the young lord and tried to intercept him, but the young lord wasn't going to let anything stop him. He drew the SoS then jumped at the beast. A flash of the blade later, the monster's arm was severed, and the rest of the body burst into flames. That certainly got the attention of all the monsters around. He glared coldly at the surrounding enemies as his grip tightened around the SoS, fierce flames erupting around the blade.

The faster he defeated all the monsters here, the faster he could go find his father, who was definitely inside that tower.

Blossom wasn't running as fast as Roy, but she did manage to keep up with him fairly well, at least. Her shoulder was starting to effect her grip, her left arm growing pained and even slightly numb as the wind and sand kept hitting it. The burn, she could feel, wasn't getting any better under this hot sun or after getting hot sand pressed into it for who knew how long. And if she stopped now to cover it, these monsters--wait, monsters?--would end up eating her alive.

Blossom gripped onto her sword as best as her injured shoulder would let her, heaving a mighty swing to slice a Mogall in two, right down the middle. She had been fighting, she had weathered a sandstorm, she had chased after Roy, and now she was fighting again.

There was certainly no time for them to even catch their breath, was there?

Blossom sucked in a greedy breath, her lungs aching as she managed to slide across the sand and dodge a Gargoyle's lunging strike at her heart. A parry from Vezra broke the flimsy wooden shaft of his lance, and then a heavy swing felled him. Blossom panted, watching him fall, and then moved on to keep on her guard, only vaguely thinking of how it had gotten a lot easier nowadays to wield such a heavy sword.

-Ephraim-

"Roy!!" Ephraim called out, watching as the young lord suddenly ran off. He took a few steps forward then paused, turning around to the spot where Lyon stood. As if hoping he was there..a sign..a symbol..something..He waited a few more seconds before returning to chasing after Roy.

As he got closer and closer, Roy suddenly ripped out his sword from where Ephraim could see. Beneath him, the sand rose a little then suddenly, what looked like a...a Gorgon..? What was that doing HERE? For sure, Ephraim was certain that was the last time he had to see those monsters..but unfortunentally he was wrong. That wasn't the only one they were going to have to fight either. Blossom had just taken out a Mogall and Roy a strange minotaur creature.

So it wasn't just those creatures. Others as well? The lancer jumped back, dodging the demon surge as the monster tried to catch him off guard. That was not going to get him. Not this time. Ephraim raised his spear, and shoved his spear through the forehead of the monster. A small cracking of the skull was heard and Ephraim pulled his spear out, slime slowly dripping down from the shaft to the spear head. He looked at it, disgusted in a way. "..Oh...ooh oh that's just gross"

No time to wipe it, Ephraim's just going to have to deal with the slime for now until they were cleared of the monsters. Cause as of now.. while he was worry over that, more appeared around him. Some he remembered, and some were just completly unknown to him. "...." was all that came from the prince.

This....wasn't going well.
